January 7, 201313 yr We've all gotten the lamps on the SOF that only gave us exp in one specific skill, that we didn't even want. Sure it's nice to get free experience, even if we don't want it in that skill, but how about an improvement? On the Adventurers logs on Runescape.com, each skill is categorized into a skill set. Those skill sets are:Gathering: Woodcutting, Fishing, Mining, Hunter, and FarmingCombat: Strength, Attack, Constitution, Magic, Defense, Prayer, Summoning, RangedSupport: Thieving, Agility, Slayer, and DungeoneeringArtisan: Firemaking, Construction, Cooking, Fletching, Smithing, Crafting, Herblore, and Runecrafting In these 4 skill sets, all 25 skills are listed. Rather than having skill specific lamps, which are rarely exactly what you want, why not have skill set lamps. You can put a 'Gathering' lamp into any of those 5 skills. I don't think this would be that hard to implement either. Any time that a strength lamp would have been created as a potential reward for the SOF, just replace it with a "Combat Lamp". This way, you never get the lamps that are worthless to you. What do you guys think? Join FC "w60_find_pen" For Penguins every week, and helpful people!
January 8, 201313 yr I dislike this because it makes it too easy to buy xp. I mean it's bad enough as is with type-free lamps letting you get heaps of xp via buying spins if you so desire. Put this in place and all it will do is make it that much easer based on the fact users are likely to want xp in at least one of each set making it so all lamps become 'bought xp' opposed to having around 50:50 throw away vs keep (subject to stats) Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue
January 8, 201313 yr Author Yeah, because I never buy spins, I didn't realize until after posting that this just makes it easier for people to get heaps of xp in skills they want. I really wish Jagex would remove that, but we know they're not going to. Join FC "w60_find_pen" For Penguins every week, and helpful people!

I don't mind people buying spins to get some free gp, cosmetics, supplies to be used etc. What I do mind is buying spins being so close to directly buying xp and shortcutting the entire game process when for years Jagex stance, which was imprinted on to all the old school players, was 'real life wealth should not give an in-game advantage'; buying xp does just that. January 12, 201313 yr Love that idea. Right now, I'm trying to get level 65 construction. I got a cruddy Attack XP lamp!!! Why the HECK would I want THAT?Not to mention that I oppose buying spins and SGS. Minus the Spike Trap hairdo. Supporter of Treasure Trails and can't stand non-matching armor.
January 12, 201313 yr While this would be good, there are a few concerns which have been addressed already. What about instead of rewarding with experience directly, add bonus experience which requires work to actually benefit from the lamps? I honestly don't like it either, but Jagex has made their stance on it saying this is for further game improvement (which they should have said from the start). I do get upset when I see other player earning their level by spins when others can not. However, two things strike me once I start to get upset. 1) As it stands now I have the same advantage as them. Because I currently work I can buy spins. So for ME to complain they are getting an unfair advantage is a mute point when I can do the same at this current time. 2) I myself want to buy spins, not for the exp but for the cosmetic wear. I'll be honest. I want the full herblore outfit from sof and the katana, but I'm more likely to wear it as an outfit, not skill or go to GWD. However, I don't buy spins because of the stigma that comes with it, even if I legitimately use it for "Fashionscape". I will always get accused of someone who bought their way to a higher level. So either I'm being self-righteous or scared. But, I think GreenXen's idea is a better one. Instead of a huge exp lamp they gave us double exp for hunter that we have to earn. So I got twice the exp, but I still have to take my sorry level 77 Hunter to Herblore Habitat. Further more, it was earned by doing a holiday event. Granted, some may think the event could have been better, we were rewarded with something good for taking time out to do it, much like a D&D or Minigame. So I agree with Green's idea. While still earned for sof you still have to work to get it. Therefore, you are limited by just how lazy you are, not how much you make in real life. January 27, 201313 yr I think it would be a good idea. I know if I ever get skill to 99 and I kept getting lamps for that skill I would be pissed :P. I know it's pretty right now but, I'll get there(I hope :P).
January 28, 201313 yr I don't buy spins, sometimes I wonder why I even bother, I mean what good does 1k of coins do me. That is what I usually get. While I really like the idea, because I prefer to do my own ranging rather then get a lamp in it, I would rather use that combat lamp on melee which I hate because I got totally burned out on it because that is all we did when we first got on the game our mentor was a high level meleer thought everyone should be. I see the point of the people who could buy say magic or ranged who hate doing them. At the same time it is wasted xp. Now I love the xp pendants and I would like to see them go completely to the choice ones, I thought that was a great idea.
February 5, 201313 yr I agree, mostly because I am tired of getting strength exp lamps when I already have 99 strength :P
