Range & Mage Gear

I'm thinking about starting up slaying again, but doing some mage and range to help get those skills up as well. What would be some decent gear (not overly expensive, either) that I could use? And what weapon/ammo and spells should I use?

Armadyl/Karils

Royal Cbow/dual chaotics and crystal bow.

Royal bolts are good cheap but strong ammo.

Sagies are good thrown, but you dont need thrown really.

 

Ganodermic > Ahrims/Subjugation.

Chaotic Staff > Armadyl Staff > Greater Runic/Polypore/SoL

Spells - w/e weakness ur fighting best spell you go in that element.

Problem is he only has access to wind and water surge, it's best to go for the elemental weakness if it is water, otherwise go wind surge or polypore strike

Polypore strike requires a t75 staff which is worse than abs or cs. If you can get cs, that's likely a better bet especially for miths for example.

 

At 85 magic you have access to all the blitz spells (ice requires 82 magic), so elemental weaknesses are covered there.

Sometimes Abs can be a preferable choice to cs if you have the funds just for pure lazy/invent saving mage due to it being an air staff.

But that's not a huge boon for the price tag and really for most is probably only of huuuuuugggggeeee use if you are having trouble on invent space trying to tri/hybrid or maybe for questers going in blind on release day.

I have no intention of going to QBD, so royal c-bow is out of the question. Can I still use royal bolts with any other c-bow? (It's been quite a while since I trained range, and I don't pay that much attention to updates.)

Royals do work with chaotic and arguably for momentum slayering dual wield > 2h still I believe so dual chaotics ain't so bad.

Plus since their retweak of dual vs 2h I hear good things about the balance so I'd assume royal and dual chaotic aren't too far apart for bossing now either.

600 k is about right, no reason to spend 300 k tokens on dual ccbows unless you have the cstaff, cclaws (main hand only), arc stream, bonecrusher, demonhorn neckalce, scrolls of life/efficiency/cleansing.

300k tokens = 300k dg xp = less than half an hour of dging at higher levels

 

You need to be able to make the money for a royal crossbow and charge it in less time than it takes to earn 300k dg xp, which is easily doable.

You trade 300k tokens for 300k xp, not 3m.

The reasoning slightly more elaborate:

 

You dungeoneer to get level 120 (or any level).

At level 119/whatever, you have a lot of tokens, and you could buy that level you wanted, or you could buy chaotics.

So you ask yourself: If I spent those 300k tokens not on xp, how much time would it cost me to get back the equivalent xp?

Not a lot of time obviously.

 

This reasoning assumes you value xp. If you were not interested in xp and had no tokens, it'd be different.

 

 

For fun, you can also value other things, such as not getting prayer xp (this can be pretty hard in dungeons), in which case tokens can get a lot more expensive.

I was thinking it completely the other way, I value tokens before I value the XP I'd get from it.

 

Even so, the difference between Chaotics and Royal would be order of minutes over course of long hours
