chenw
Given everything else is equal (same tier, same +damage, same weapon type, not fighting something with a special weakness to either), in general, is Ranged or Magic better? 6,924th to 30 hunting, 13,394th to 30 summoning, 52,993rd to 30 DivinationKiln Record (Post-EoC): W 25 - L 0, 14 Uncut Onyx, 8 Jad hits received (Best record: Two in the same kiln)Obby set renewed post update #2: 0QBD drops: 21 crossbow parts, 3 Visages, 1 Kites, 2 KitsMax Port Score [2205] Achieved: 27th April 2013 (World 2nd) Farmyard Rampage ranking: 12th, 50,000 Kills. Saradomin_Mage
Asphyxiate is better than rapid fireWild magic is better than bombardment (unless you aoe it)Concentrated blast is better than any other ranged basicMetamorphosis is better than Death's swiftness Staves also have a slightly longer range than dual crossbows, not sure about wand+orb, though I think royal crossbow at least ties with staves for range. In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.
chenw
If everything is equal in tiers and stats and there is no weakness to sway things melee=ranged=mage That's certainly the theory, and probably nearly true when it comes down to actual weapon damage, but was wondering if the same can be said about weapons. Basically, it boils down to this: I am torn between sticking to my Royal Crossbow, go back and buy a set of Virtus off GE again, or even blow money on a pair of Ascension Crossbows. This is mostly for slaying purposes only and general killing, with bit of bossing on the side too (mostly QBD). Drygores isn't on the menu due to BoL being extremely unfriendly to melee, especially if competition is involved, at least not yet. Also wanted to check if my hunch of Magic being better than Ranged was just a delusion or was there any substance to it. 6,924th to 30 hunting, 13,394th to 30 summoning, 52,993rd to 30 DivinationKiln Record (Post-EoC): W 25 - L 0, 14 Uncut Onyx, 8 Jad hits received (Best record: Two in the same kiln)Obby set renewed post update #2: 0QBD drops: 21 crossbow parts, 3 Visages, 1 Kites, 2 KitsMax Port Score [2205] Achieved: 27th April 2013 (World 2nd) Farmyard Rampage ranking: 12th, 50,000 Kills. Quyneax
What Gwyn said is what you need to know - in terms of kill rate on running targets (like BoL) I'd say seismic > ascension > virtus > cstaff > ccbows/rxb > other stuff. You can occasionally use barrages to aggro more troops as well.
