"The Scene"

The word scene can refer to a specific youth subculture or movement, generally used by individuals who identify with that subculture, however it is sometimes used in a pejorative sense by non-members. Scenes are distinguished from the general culture through fashion, identification with specific (at times obscure or experimental) musical genres or political perspectives and an strong ingroup or "tribal" group identity. The term can also be used to describe specific subsets of a subculture, usually geographical, as in "the American drum and bass scene" or "the London goth scene". Not all youth subcultures are necessarily labeled as scenes.

Well... The Scene at my school...

Phew, where do I start? It consists of a bunch of "Non-Conformists" who feel the need to go to "Local Shows" with horrible screaming bands. They think that they are different by dyeing their hair a different color every night, and by wearing leg warmers, bracelets up to their elbows, and bangs down to their throat. As they lay their head down in "sock-covered-arms" during school while listening to their "black iPod (Which is different because it is black) you can occasionally catch them head banging to their sweet tunes. They try too hard to look hard.

Not only is the style obnoxious, but so is their attitude. They all act the exact same. They all pretend like their parents hate them, and that they don't fit in with a specific "clique". They use Linkin Park backpacks, and draw the Anarchist symbol on their pants, yet half of them don't even know what it means.

Non-Conformists? Rebels? Misfits? "Anti-Everythings"?

You decide. :P

If this needs to be moved to the Off Topic go ahead.

It is supposed to be about the whole idea of being "Scene".

Arent scean kids sappoused to be just emo wannabees?

Half the people on this thread are just talking about general "scenes", others are talking about the "scene" kids. Big difference actually.

Exactly.

And I don't want this Topic filled with unintelligent posts like yours (Lionheart no offense). I want some actuall discussion about this.

Some nice opinions.

The 'gangsters' were taking over together with the 'alternative' people you discribed. Atleast, the last year I was in school. I don't know which disgust me more, the ones with too big jackets and a furcoating talking tough, or the ones with green army jackets with a "Cradle of Filth" thing attached on the back and a Satan star drawn on their sleeves, giving off to everything in the world.

Hahaha...

But I'm sure the "gangsters" wouldn't be caught dead at a local show.

And then pretend like that actually like the music.

It's probably a little bit different in England than wherever you're from MPC, but if the principles are the same (which im guessing they are) then I hate, 'The Scene'.

In my college, there are people who don't ever seem to go to class, just hang around, in their own little elitist groups, but from their appearance, i think they listen to two different types of music, rap, and emo (not at the same time, there are two different groups).

Sadly, it makes me think more stereotypically of either anyone that knows them or hangs around with them and/or listens to that type of music, which in itself is bad, because its not that particular type of music's fault that there are people who make this 'Scene'. However even in my most unbias frame of mind, i still think that certain types of music encourage 'The Scene' more than others.

This is probably just a watered-down version of what it is like there, and hey, i might be way off, and just influenced by the media, but please tell more.

P.S. I too spotted the conformity of being a non-conformist irony.

What you're saying is, you dislike the kind of "Ashlee Simpson alternatives" about?

Thank God. So do I.

Ashlee Simpson is hardcore punk...haven't you seen the [bleep]ed belts she wears?

Ow, why do I find the scene chick hot? :(

It's because she's pouting and holding that mop oh-so seductively.

Dreaming of that face again

It's bright, and blue, and shimmering

Grinning wide

And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes

Forgive me, I'm weak!

Yeah...

The sad thing is I know the people that I posted the pictures of.

And they really are how I described them to be.

That one chick tried hitting on me... I was like... eh... no... I don't really swing "scene."

Well... I'm a...

Hippe/Anarchist/Goth/Skater/Nerd/Rebel

-depending on mood, and day of the week..-

no im not joking....

I say screw punk/emo.. :)

god i love myself..

w00t

anyway..

about the "scene"

i think its different in different parts of the world..

like in my school its like 90% preps/jocks/skanks

the rest are either mentally challenged (literally) at about 2% I'd Say

and the rest are like what you said, but i know alot of those people, and they really are "legit" (scene kids) and they know what its really about. not like the jock-turned-scene-kid just to follow the crowd. the people i know have always been that way.

as for those pictures you posted, no one looks like that (in my school) cept maby like 2-3 people.. who really do have problems

the crowd I hang with have long hair, and we all follow classic rock bands

Pink Floyd, The Doors, Zeppelin, and so on...

I guess my definiton of "scene" is different than yours.

the scene where you are at seem to be gothic/emo type people..

here its Skater/Punk kind of stuff..
