knight10071
Let's start. I'm Dutch and I have to give a presentation in my English class. I've decided to do it about MMORPG's: Games such as RS WoW and so on. I think/hope there are people on this forum who play another online RPG except runescape. If you play DAoC, WoW, Rose online, Maplestory or any other online RPG I would like it if you can place here a screenshot + a short description of the game, which anwers at least the following questions: Is the game free, is there an option to pay, or only avaible if you pay? If you have to/can pay, how much? How long does the game exist (roughly)? 2D/3D/Only menu's with text? Pro's and con's (at least 1, more is prefered) Any interesting information. (not necessary) I would be very happy if you reply with a screenshot + information
Doomster
Maybe the evolution of the current MMORPG can be traced back to bulletin board games such as "Legend of the Red Dragon" (current remake - Legend of the Green Dragon). What came before the current graphical ones, mat be a point worth persuing for a presentation. I played LotGD for a while: so: http://lotgd.net/home.php? (not the server I played on) 1. Played on a free server - LotGD is "open", so you will find free servers, pay servers and modified servers. 2. Price depends on the server. 3. Time established, uncertain, Game time normally proceeds at 2 game days per actual day. 4. Menu and text 5. Cheap but rather basic, rather dependent on nostalgia for those old BBS "door games". The PvP element is limited to attacking sleeping (offline) players. 6. Modifications include servers with unlimited turms, extra NPCs and assistants (if you own a wolf pack, you are almost invincible, though that may ba a custom addition, and was unavailable to higher levels. There are many "buffs" which can be obtained, though your assisting animal is the longest lasting of them. Buffs cannot be used when advancing level in combat with your trainer, nor by or against sleeping players. If you die, you spend some time in another place, where you can combat for points to make a quicker return, or for other abilities, such as haunting. Nadril
Search Guild Wars on google youll find its an amazing mmorpg and lots to write about! Too bad it's not an MMORPG. Lineage 2: http://www.lineage2.com - Korean PvP Game. - The game, like many korean mmo's, has a lot of grind. - Has castle seiges, and large ones at that. - Full flegged clan and alliance system, you can wage wars on other clans/alliances. And http://www.silkroadonline.net and some other mmo's that will be great to use: Meridan 59 Ultima Online Everquest Because those 3 are probaly the 3 most influencal MMORPG's out there. Anesthesia
Why not look for the screenshots yourself? They would be very easy to find. Easier than asking other people to post them again and again. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

What came before the current graphical ones, mat be a point worth persuing for a presentation. The MMORPG evolved from MUD (Multi-User Dungeon), which stretches back to the late '70s. The early ones were text based-- the later graphical MUDs became known as MMORPGs in the late '90s. Here's Wikipedia's definition-- be forewarned-- it's very long: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUD
Greatsilverwyrm
You may also talk about how the economies on MMORPGS are interesting studies of economics in general / microchasms of our own economy.

cadburys_egg
Is the game free, is there an option to pay, or only avaible if you pay? Free fo lyphe (As far as I know....) If you have to/can pay, how much? You can pay for "cash shop" items, it covers your clothes with fancy different ones. How long does the game exist (roughly)? Dont understand that but Ill say this; it is a very vibrant game and you will be attracted to it for weeks and weeks, which is what you need to be any good at it. Levelling is VERY difficult in later levels. 2D/3D/Only menu's with text? 2D Pro's and con's (at least 1, more is prefered) PROS: Unique Graphics. A good guild/clan system, under your name the guild name appears. Pets and nigh on total customisation. CONS: Need to be VERY patient to level in later levels. Need to pay real money for cool clothes but isnt necessary. Any interesting information. (not necessary) Play it! Cant use firefox for the website :( Snapshots: Glad to be of a help :)

LOL, but serious it's a good one! He is right though, in fact if I ever need to do a study in economics I will bring up MMORPG's in it. Even the runescape economy, a small , java based game, has a very interesting economy. And it is interesting how each MMORPG has a different type. For example, EVE Online is entierly player driven, much like a captialist economy. However, some in-game economy's have it to where you can buy everything, or some you need to craft everything (traditional). :)

Schwarzenegger
Silkroad Online http://www.silkroadonline.net Is the game free, is there an option to pay, or only avaible if you pay? Free to play forever. An item mall is to be implemented into the game later on, where you can purchase in game things for real money. Such items would be 2x experience scroll and other cool things. How long does the game exist (roughly)? I'm not sure, I'd say Korean and Chinese versions about a year, maybe the international one 5 months? 2D/3D/Only menu's with text? Full 3d Pro: Free, fun, innovative Cons: Some of the translations in english are not 100% accurate, can be repettitive after a while Screenshots http://www.silkroadonline.net/dataroom/screenshot.asp Runescaper (off and on) since late 2001
