RuneLabs Ideas

Would there be content to immediately play with, as opposed to having to build everything in order to unlock certain resources/creatures/areas along the way? I don't think I could wait for the community to pour in resources for a week before we get to unlock a dungeon/slayer creature, would rather there be things available to play with from the get-go.

Well, the content to play immediately would be the skilling to get things set up. The initial ones would probably be pretty low in reqs though to give the community a taste in getting things done so doubt it would take a week to unlock the first dungeon.

The courtesy shop would also be unlocked from the beginning, so new scrimshaws and such would be available to learn.

I added in my own idea =3!   https://[LikelyScam]/m=player-proposal/a=13/c=5iWOvLQWxJ8/view-idea?idea=2147

  • It would be...interesting to see other ways to give more support to people who know what they're talking about, like (recent?) game time/total levels. Of course with that can of worms opened though, J

  • ^I rather not see a quest prestige system. Not because I am opposing the ability to replay quest, but because they hinted many times that making quests replayable is going to cost huge amounts of time

Or...

While they develop the actual continent they can release new PoP missions that slowly build the infrastructure of the place and when you finally arrive most of the things are individual in terms of appearance or if you can use them.

I think we need more community stuff, I don't want a whole continent that is just a large instanced area. Plus making them PoP missions would lock a whole continent behind level 90 skills which seems a bit far.

I don't think it must be entirely instanced. Perhaps hot spots and so forth that could make the community build easier or give you a head start. And the same could be that it wouldn't be locked behind a level, but having that level give you a bit of a lead.

I'll think about that, maybe there's something I could add to have PoP help out a bit more, and maybe allow some other things to affect it.

I think it's a logical and appealing concept to make the new continent be available from your port. We really could rebuild the Eastern Lands after the downfall of Quinn.

I'd rather some parts of the continent already be fully functional, while only a few towns/cities need to be reconstructed. Instead of there being a single reward shop for the whole continent's content, split the rewards across activities in the whole place.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Honestly, part of the reason I thought of this way is that a fully functional or mostly functional continent just isn't going to happen. Elf City was a such a small area but took them a huge amount of resources to develop. With this idea they could understandably release the Continent in chunks instead of taking years to develop it.

Also, I think it works better thematically if instead of there being some useful things from the start, there were some useful things that players could build quickly, so that playyers get introduced to the mechanics of the community building it, but at the same time don't need to wait a long time for the island to be worth going to. So, I may rework and add some useful stuff to the early projects.

And that also works well with Eastern Lands since you could release the continent one or two islands at a time.

Except they're not really a continent as much as a bunch of somewhat small islands. I'm not against going to the Wushankos, I added that to my idea on someone else's suggestion, but I don't think it would be as interesting as a full continent that could be filled in with pretty much anything.

Plus, I feel like Jagex would lock the actual Wushankos off behind Ports, which is only for people with 90's in those skills and could cause issues.

I'd also approve of perhaps the release of Archeron. You could tie in more than a few things with penguins and Frems and perhaps something akin to the size of Greenland or even a full blown arctic type continent.

I wouldn't object to acheron, but when I think of it my brain basically comes up with a blank. I just think of this huge area covered with snow and ice and it sounds boring in my head. If someone comes up with a decent suggestion for acheron I would support it, but everytime I've tried I just kind of blank on it.

I like to think of it as a massive rock in the ocean with a whole host of caverns. Big, empty spaces between towns and cities. Perhaps even a hive of Dagganoth where we find them not so hostile. It gives them an option of having a new continent, but without having to load it up full of stuff immediately.

Perhaps even Freminnik raids for a slightly relaxed level player. Now that they've worked out raid mechanics for their game. :p

New Runelabs competition is up. This time they want an area to develop, but not the specific content that goes in the area.

My submission "Fossil Island-Continent"  https://[LikelyScam]/m=player-proposal/a=13/view-idea?idea=49047

"North of Morytania lies a lonely continent, long ago inhabited but since then the people have all fled or died. The Anima Mundi on the Continent has been heavily damaged. At its centre is a castle inhabited by a Dragonkin focused on solving the curse that has damned his species. The surrounding lands are covered by the ruins of a civilization long gone, the bones of creatures long dead, and the results of the Kin's experiments. With dark forests, open plains, shattered ruins, and deep dungeons the Continent is ripe for exploration.

The Experiments of the Lone Dragonkin have taken over the abandoned island beyond the castle's border. These Dinosaur-like creatures have been ignored and allowed to flourish by the Kin who has no need for them once he believes his experiment has failed. From gigantic behemoths to small agile animals, the island is home to a diverse group of creatures.

The Varrock Museum has discovered this continent and have kept it as secret as possible for fear that others may go exploring and interfere with the Museum's research. As part of their cover-up they minimized the size of the continent to any outsiders they did tell, hoping if word did spread it would seem like merely a small island of little interest.

Some Gielinorians have discovered the museum's deception. Fearful of the increased tensions, sporadic battles, and death that has accompanied the return of the Gods, these people seek to flee the main lands and colonize this new island as a safe haven. They have approached the World Guardian, and asked for help in discovering the Continent's location. The small colony on the Continent would need the World Guardian's help to set up and stay protected. It could possibly expand in the future as the colonists become settled but wouldn't be much more than a village at first."

Yeah, I like the continuing plotline of the Varrock museum meddling in dangerous affairs/coverups.

Personally I do not like Helring's idea this time. It's just not at all what I think of when I think of fossil island. I mean some of the lead in about the museum is good, but the actually place just nope for me.

I also kinda dislike it because of the scale suggested - I like the idea of Fossil Island being an island, a fairly big one like Karamja kinda size, but deffo an island. Plus when Jamflex have already mentioned in streams etc. that the new area will be about the size of 1/2 of Priff it seems like a bad idea to push for an idea that largely hinges on Fossil Island being a much larger continent.

Dragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue

I like the idea of it having catacombs beneath it. If you put it out there now you can always have good groundwork for future expansion.

heh, yeah, they could put the second dungeon in it, and it'd be self contained because the museum doesn't want adventurers to steal anything
