Barihawk
I was born in Kuwait, but my parents are from Palestine. They left Palestine after their home was destroyed, moved to Jordan - then Kuwait. Kuwaitis were racist and didnt give us much privilages such as recieving kuwaiti citizenship, so we came to Canada. I AM NOT KUWAITI! Its racist if the Kuwaiti's don't give you rights but when Saddam doesn't let his people vote in free elections and kills them because they are Kurds you say he "just has to be tough on them." I totally agree. Demorcracy should be a universal concept, and Saddam was a sick man for the things he did. But without him, the Iraqis are suffering way more than what Saddam did to them. You cant walk outside expecting to come home and be completly fine in Iraq. It's that dangerous - imagine thinking the next car, restaurant, person or mailbox might blow up the next time you walk by it. I think it's just sad that the Iraqis were suffering when Saddam was in power, and now they have to suffer a lot more when Saddam was captured. The United States was pretty messed up for about a decade after we freed ourselves from the rule of King George. American's were so proud of thier newfound freedom that they did not want to follow a central US Government. All major changes in government take time. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley

But surely it has a better chance of ever becoming peaceful with the current plans? As you said, democracy should be a universal concept, so isn't it better to try and implement it now? Ok, we save the Iraqis from a warlord - but then introduce them to full out war, the strongest over the weak? I dont think you can implement democracy in Iraq ATM, because to have a demorcracy you need everyone to compromise for the sake of the state, which they are not willing to do. As I stated before, many citizens of the United states did not want to compromise for the sake of the state from 1782-1796. There was much civil unrest and rebellions. Judging a government change after 3 years is really not enough time to declare it a failure. Zerocool11
Well, I'd say that America's form of democracy is a little off. The main point of democracy is that everyone has a voice in government. America's voter turn out rate is ridiculously low especially compared to other countries. I'd say that about 30% of the American population actually votes in major elections and even less than that percentage in smaller elections that decide Senators, Congressmen, etc. How can this be called a true democracy? I think in order to truly be considered a democracy, a much higher percentage needs to come out and voice their opinion. I really like what countries like Australia have done where they punish citizens that don't vote. This way no one can complain about the current administration. Everyone does have a chance to have a voice in government. A strong point of having a democracy is that everyone has the ability to choose whether or not to be involved in politics. Doesn't mean they have to vote...
Zerocool11
I don't dispute that America has a democracy. I think that our democracy is one that has a few flaws in it. The biggest one being the fact that people can choose not to have a voice in their government but later complain that our government sucks. People need to vote, that's the whole basis of democracy. When people don't exercise that right, democracy begins to fail. Yes, democracy is about freedoms, but it also comes with great responsibilities. If a good majority of the people, even more than the approximate 70% that currently don't vote, decided not to vote, our democracy would collapse. pianofrieak2
Yep, you're right. Wickedness prevails when good men do nothing. However, I would like to clarify: America has a republic, not a democracy. Democracy means that each person has one vote and the people decide the course of action for every government law. Rather, American people vote, one man = one vote, to elect senators who, in turn, vote for the policy. I'm currently transitioning from a Wizard to a Mage and a Priest to an Archpriest. kido14
Okay, to be honest I didn't want to read 10 pages of posts, so I am sorry if I repeated what has been said already. This is to the original poster of this thread. You says Bush is a "Texan goof-ball" correct? I believe Bush went to some ivy league school, like Harvard correct? I'm not 100% sure if my facts are correct or not =s. You can't get into such a prestigious school like Harvard for being a "goof-ball," much less being the president of the United States. What I can't stand about those of you who criticise Bush for every little thing he does, is that none of you seem to remember he is only human. All humans make mistakes. You all make it sound so easy to be President, yet I bet you haven't bothered to even think how hard it must be. As for enjoying it when Sadam was in control, if you like being a robot, then I guess that's cool, but I guess America figured not everyone enjoys having no freedom. But I guess if you like that, you are entitled to your own opinion.
