I helped someone out

I was the one who gave (actually loaned) the 100k and rune pick to okiebrian. Apparently its against the forum rules for someone to appeal to the better nature of a fellow Tip.iter to help you out when things have not gone your way.

 

God help us for ever helping someone to get through that quest that they cant quite finish, or get past that slayer assignment which defeats their best-laid strategies.

 

Yes, I can understand not allowing a 'chicken feather' to post a begging post, but this guy has over 100 posts on forums (anyone bothered to check his post history?) Well I did and it checks out. Reading his posts, he sounds like a decent Tip.Iter (a damned sight better, actually, than a lot of the people on here currently, if you can call call flamers and spammers people EDIT: refer to the BREAKING NEWS thread [also locked but jusifiably so] for evidence). And that opinion was backed up by my conversation with him when I loaned him the goods.

 

Now I may have laid myself open to massive ridicule when he doesn't pay me back (and I'll freely own up to it if he doesn't), but I'd rather lose 100k (which he didn't ask for) and a rune pick (peanuts frankly) than lose faith in the basic genuine honesty of a long term Tip.It poster. I mean, all the guy asked for was a rune pick. I went to the T.E.T. Slave Auction drop party the other day and dropped 200k of stuff. Many T.E.T. organisers dropped far in excess of that and I think its quite clear that much of that was picked up by (and I hate this term) 'noobs' who wouldn't know a Tip.It'er if we sat on them!

 

So, in conclusion, I say to the mods (guess I'll never be one now huh?), give a guy a break!

That ws very nice of you to do such a thing. Helping someone out in that circumstance definitely was a kind gesture. Though it still is against tip.it's rules for the mear fact that it will only bring in beggers and thats not what these forums are about.

You helped out a fellow RSer and Tip.it user, let alone a OU Sooner fan. That is a good thing-- i think the problem lies in the post was in the wrong forum to look for the things he was needing. I dont know i am not a mod but that is what i got from the post.

My main point was that beggars dont generally have a 100+post history. I did say that it was perfectly reasonable to lock 'chicken feathers'. After all, who is going to give to them anyway?

Dont let anyone put you down, what you did was very kind and good no matter what the forum rules are it's a good thing that you gave that to him to help out a fellow tip.iter and i'm sure that he appriciates it.

I appreciate the supportive comments. But don't think I'm looking for a fan club here; if the original thread had not been locked, this one would not exist. I would really like to hear a mod's take on what i said. If its a good reason why I'm wrong that's fine. This post was not meant as a damnation of rules and mods; just a query on the implementation in this case. (And totally off topic - Has Jagex increased the atk lvl of Fire Giants? Cos I'm using way more lobbies than is reasonable here!)

I think what you did was nice, the thread wasnt locked because they were pushing away a fellow tipiter, it was because the rules state no begging, cant change rules for one person otherwise you will have to for everyone...

My take on the rule: I assumed it was put into effect to prevent people from begging, not from giving. Helping out another tip.iter was YOUR choice. It's always nice to see good-hearted people. I applaud you.

someone like yourself or Leesters, Nathaninch or Barihawk (or any other Mod - or Tip.It'er) should be hacked or have some other mishap befall you, I'd like to think that you would be able to turn to the Tip.It community to get you back on your feet without falling foul of such a rule.

It was very kind of you to help out a fellow tip.iter and complete stranger, but didnt he give away everything on his own accord, its not like he was hacked or scammed by someone, so he cant really blame anyone but himself for the predicament he is in.

 

I dont know, you can call me heartless, but when i read his thread i didn't find myself feeling sorry for him at all.

There are times when you set on this side of the screen and know what you have to do and really wish you didn't have to do it. But as I discussed with okiebrian, leaving it would of opened the flood gates for the abusers.

 

 

 

Better we follow the rules to a "T" than face the mess that will happen if certain types see that post and think...Great! now it's my turn!

 

 

 

It is sad that the community has been abused to the point that such rules have to be in place at all. But until everyone decides to be a healthy community rather than a social leech we have to have them.

 

 

 

I commend you on your willingness to help out a fellow player and had planned to do so myself but you had beat me to it. As you said...the gp and pick are worth the risk to find an honest player.

 

 

 

Next time realize what you see isn't always all there is to it. There is always somethig you don't see going on behind the curtain.

ok what you did was nice (well done etc etc) but isnt the whole point of rs to get your own items through hard work and training, merching, skill building etc? if you need to resort to asking (or begging) to get your stuff then why are you playing? thats just my personal opinion on things.

A "Tip.it'er" has loand me money before, I havent heard of him since thoe, He lent me 900k and i payed him back in 2 days, I was quite lucky to run into a honest guy lol. I wouldnt steal "pixels" because i have no emotions of value to them, If i lost full dragon and a party hat set i wouldnt care because "its just a game". Btw ive lost tons of stuff over the past years of playing.
