Discrimination?

Have you ever been discriminated against. And i dont mean jokingly, i mean somone ment to make you feel bad by singling you or a group out? Say how so this was done, and how you delt with it.

Another thing, have you ever tried to stop anyone from discriminating against another? if so, what was happening, and how did you stop it.

Id just like to know these things, because i watched a show and thought a bit (yes i do this sometimes) about how much discrimination there really is in the world... and how much it angers me.

Lastly, if you have discriminated against anyone, in the words of Gullum "LEAVE NOW, AND NEVER COME BACK!"

And here is a few minutes of your time to waste why not to do drugs.... you could become this guy:

Uh, lol. You would like to knows this because you̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôve seen a show and thought about it? What kind of reason is that? Why do you really want to know?

I don't think I've ever been discriminated. I don't think I've seen it happen a lot around me either, so it hasn't been necesary to stop it. And I don't think I seriously discriminated somebody, just friends for fun.

And what's up with that link about drugs?

What pills are you on? :?

When I visited England parents would tell my dad that they didn't want the Irish boy around thier girls. That's about the only time I've been discriminated against.

Im Irish-Cherokee, by the way. I'm surprised I even look Irish with dark skin and hair.

People used to make fun of me for having red hair but now I have this manly beard as a defense mechanism.

Then: "I'd rather be dead than red on the head"

Now: "Woh, beard"

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

A couple months after 9/11, my mom and I went to Montreal. While we were waiting in line to get on the plane, a couple guys came over to the line and announced they were conducting a 'random' security check. My mom and I were pulled aside along with several other people. I looked around, and every single person that had been pulled out wasn't caucasian. When I looked back at the line, not a single one of the caucasians had been touched.

Racism still exists, just in a different form nowadays.

Try being white and still getting checked on planes because you have dark skin. That is humbling.

Homosexuals are discriminated against all the time where I live, in conversation. I'd say that's where the most random unwarranted discrimination is at the moment. A lot of people do it without thinking about it, when they say things like "that's gay" for instance - as if the word "gay" is synonymous with "bad"

For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns.

The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

Where im from, they say that but in a different sense. They mean that word as in "strange" or "weird". Since none of them are that-way inclinded its human nature to think it is odd.

I haven't been discriminated yet I know of someone who has, he only was because he is a freakin' bully . He brought it upon himself.

Not to sound racist or anything but my first impression of a black person was not a good one. There will always be that doubt in me suspecting any black person of it now. :(

Why do we allways judge people by their looks? Whether it is discrimination or just because someone doesn't fit in or isn't like "the way people look on tv".

Mostly as a kid cause i'm chinese, then in middle school. In high school, I wasn't really discriminated against. Younger people are generally immature.

you do realize that's also discrimination, don't you?

How is it? Young people are immature, that's what being young is...
:x I gave up trying to explain this to somone on the general boards. Most children are immature by nature whilst some are not is the sentence you are looking forr. Being young is not being mature, because many people would mature that are probably 50 years old. This genearlization is what creats discrimination. BTW, the by thinking, one thing i ment is i realized how such a small thing hurts, and i have realized how much i says "thats gay", or"[bleep]" alot (the them of the show was mostly discrimination, but mostly focused on homosexual descrimination). Im gonna try to stop saying these things, even if im not meaning them in a hurtfull way.

You are racist by saying this. First impressions are never important how much people say, its like judging a book by its cover.

So some people are born mature?

Saying that most children are immature but some are not only means that they are relatively mature. They are still children and therefore are immature by definition. Were they matured then they would be adults...

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

Exactly,

Lionheart, you're comparing the maturity level of your average child to the maturity level of your average adult.

Are all kids stupid because they don't know university-level biochem? No, because you compare them to other kids their own age. Therefore, when judging a kid's maturity level, don't compare them to adults - compare them to the average maturity level of other kids their own age.

You can learn a lot about someone by the way they look.

If you are trying to hire someone, do you go with the guy in a business suit or the twenty year old who looks like a stoner and wears dirty, torn jeans falling halfway down his butt?

The correct answer is that it's not that simple - you should interview them and compare their merits in a fair and objective manner. This is the best way of judging them. But statistically, people in business suits are generally more reliable than people who look like stoners, and that has to enter into your decision. Yes, that is discrimination, but it is also a completely rational and reasonable way of judging the candidates for the job.

That is not meant as a defense of racism. Just pointing out that sometimes the cover of a book can tell you a lot. Especially if you read the reviews on the back.

Well I've never really been seriously discriminated agienst... but then again there really isn't alot of discrimination in my town... My town is about about 98% white. All 3 black people that attend my school are treated equally. I think their is only one big time racist in my school and not many people really like him.

I'm a red head but no ones really seriously made fun of me for that... If they have I don't remember....

No no, i am comparing two diffrent types of maturtity levels within kids. There are those dirty kids who just misbehave usaly because they dont know anybetter, and then there are those who fool around a bit, but will go and hold the door, say please and thank you, have manners, dosent just want to be loud.
