The good old days

Rune squares are like rare as now: nobody makes, wants, or smiths them; there's no need too. Nobody wants them. I've seen like a handful of F2P players on RnuneScape with rune squares. I own one myself. i once saw a 111 at cwars with one.

Seeing this post reminds me of a conversation I had with a level 102 at the Jellys yesterday.

He said something about how he'd never seen such a high level with such a low ranged level (I was wearing blue dhide) (And Im only combat 89 so I dont know what he was getting at, but meh) So I tried to explain to him that I did most of my skill levelling in RSC, and havnt trained much range since RS2 (and hence arrows were harder to find pre RS2)

He immediately launched into a rant about how I was a lying noob and wasnt in RSC. He knew this because his friend was there in the first year and fletching was always in RS. He also told me that I was lying when I told him about the night fishing was released, since that skills always been in RS. THat, and there was never a time without members.

The best part though, was that I couldnt possible have done most of my levelling pre RS2, because according to his friend we werent allowed to transfer levels when RS2 came out. Everyone had to start over, but we were allowed to transfer our banks. The conversation ended with him calling me a "pothead", which was funny, and me teleing because I was done.

Just goes to show, even high levels can be uninformed prats.

As for the topic of the post, I remember when as I said above, Fishing came out. I remember buying a fishing rod (quite a feat with the overcrowding in the fishing shop, just talking to the shop keeper was tricky), and going to Karamja and selling it for like 2000 to someone who probably couldnt use it. I was so proud XD

But then, I was stuck on Karamja because the customs officer could only talk to one person at once. People were selling tele runes for ridiculous amounts, but even that wasnt an option for me because I was all noob with level 1 magic XD

God, those were the days.

200k for a santa hat

200k for a green mask

300k for a red mask

400k for a blue mask

(just before RS2 that is)

Those were the days. Before the average age of a RuneScape player dropped to 10. I don't care about graphics, I don't care about new items, and animations. Sure, they're cool, but I'd give it all up to have RS1 like was before RS2 was even announced! I still have my original scythe from that October of 2003. I hate it when I see people like N0valyfe that have never once played the game before RS2 was released, and yet they have gained a huge amount of xp in such a short time. Why can't there be more games like RS1? They need to give RS1 to some other company, so they can develop it, and have it to themselves as a seperate game. The way it is now, it's just a thing of the past that nobody can go to.

I still have a santa hat on my RS1 account as well, and I remember going from level 57 to 61 when RS2 came out. I have never seen level 60 to this day, heh.

I remember, I "borrowed" 100k from my great friend, and bought some armor, and a rune pickaxe. I have since paid him back, and he wasn't angry, he actually agreed to give me that 100k as a loan type thing, but God was that fun...

I still remember dueling anywhere. I was in Falador West bank (a LOT different than it is today), and a guy level 30 something with rune chain comes up to me, and puts up 200k for my santa. I think "hey, I can beat him," so I decline, and offer to duel instead. He puts up his 200k, and I add my santa hat. What a foolish mistake that was. Turned out he was a mage tank. In RS1 it was a LOT more difficult to tell who was a pure and who was new to the game (as pures had really really REALLY low levels). I ended up selling my rune armor for 200k (I'm shocked it's stayed a constant price throughout the years), and bought another hat with my tail between my legs.

Still, a very fun and exciting time of life for me. I just wish we could have that family like atmosphere back. I blame the whole downfall on the fact that JAGeX made everything too easy. Kids with little patience would leave the game because it took forever to level up, but that is what made it great. Only the people that really wanted to play would be there, and those people were generally nicer, and more mature. I was 14 when I started to play this great game. I'm 17 now. I joined in May of '03. But God do I regret not coming home after Winter Vacation that January, and logging onto RuneScape. If not for the sake of saying "I've played for 5 years," then to at least be involved with the creation of such a great game.
