WutangFlu
Education... Yay /sarcasmn So, in 9th grade I failed Algebra I, and thanks to Mr. Bushwacker, I have to take it over. Cursed "No Child Left Behind" such a bad slogan dont you think? I had a bad teacher to, he had a horrible slur and he was hard to understand. He spent 70, of the 80 minutes of class time lecturing about how to do things and gives HUGE assingments, but like I said, I didnt understand a word he was saying. I ended up getting bad grades in that class. D+ the first quarter, and an F (~22%) the 2nd, because it just got worse. If you dont get ONE thing you dont get the rest of it. Since 9th grade algebra I have taken two other math classes, Life skills Math (avg, B grade), and Geometry (avg, C+ grade). But this year, my 11th year, I have to take Algebra I over, thankfully with a new teacher, who is easy to approach, and doesnt take 70/80 minutes to teach. But the thing is, I havent done anything with algebra SINCE 9th grade, and I was wondering if any of you fine folks could give me some guidance. Study from the internet? Where? How?... you know. And while im in the mood, Give me some sites were I can looks at colleges and stuff. I really need to get kicking these last 2 yrs of school or im !@#$ed majorly. Someone slap me too, cuz I have attitude problems when it comes to school, like... 1st half of the year = Yay, w00t.. all goody good.... Then, comes the 2nd half.. It ALL goes downhill, I stop caring, and I easily get pissy at the stupidity of my peers, and teachers.
xvillexvalox
Find out what textbook you'll use next year and maybe buy one? OR find someone that has a stolen one (textbooks aren't that hard to steal from school, I have a science weather book still) WEll, you're n pretty tough situation. good luck. :-w

kazarin
To be honest I failed all my classes last year[9th Grade] I assume I'm going to have to re-take Algebra 1 as well. For me it's about... 1/4 of the year: This ain't so bad. [b Average] 2/4 of the year: Teachers suck.. [D Average] 3/4 of the year: "F" this school.. [F Average] 4/4 of the year: What school? [0-15% F Average] Usually happens to be every year. Lack of motivation I guess. Because I work, I'm very good and get raises easy. Money=Motivation. But I'm going to try to take it serious 10th grade. Probably going to be the same as every year though.
No_OnE
Meh, math comes easy to me. Took Algebra I in seventh grade, took Geometry in 8th, and I'm taking Algebra II next year in ninth. Anyway, just type in Algebra on google and see what comes up...
Nadril
I did somewhat of the same thing you did LP, except with Geometry. Now the difference was is that I didn't fail the course, however, i got a low D (enough that i'd want to take it over to understand it.) Well I took it again the next year and did much better. I still was in my lazy attitude, but I managed to pull a C in his class (which was fairly good). Anyways, as far as the attitude, I don't know what to tell you on that one. I think it finaly hit me my second semester of my junior year, leaning towards the last quarter. I started actualy working a bit, and it pulled together. My senior year I pulled together MUCH better. Hell, i think I pulled out a 3.1 or so average that year (and that was with my no studying ever attitude and general senior-itis at the end of the year deal). I guess what helped me was I had a good 20 minutes in the morning to do my homework in our seminar. To tell the truth if it wasn't for that I probaly wouldn't have done my homework, lol. Overall it just pulled some of the stress off of me, so I could get home and do what I want to do, not more schoolwork.
WutangFlu
@nadril My [bleep]. GPA is somewhere around 2.2.. is it possible to get maby... a 3.5? by the time I'm a senior. if its possible I thinks its a goal I could set for myself. 3.0 is what I want MINIMUM. but higher would really be nice. ---I'd like to get into a good art school, photo, things like that. ----I want my interests to by my career of course :P (thank god this is my last math class... EVER) taking a bunch of Art classes, and writing classes next year, and those will be easy ones for me.. I hope :S

(your going to be a junior next year, right? or senior). Those art classes will deffinitly help your GPA probaly. Also jsut so you know, I took trig last year and did better in it than I did in Alg I in 8th grade. LOL. It all depends on the teacher and how much you are willing to put into it. (I didn't put a lot into it).

Then, comes the 2nd half.. It ALL goes downhill, I stop caring, and I easily get pissy at the stupidity of my peers, and teachers. You sound like me in a nutshell, and thats hella-scary. I couldnt keep up with Math, never was good with numbers. People were 4-5 lessons ahead and i was still on addition and subtraction :(. Honestly and im coming from left field with this view, but is math ultimatley needed? When in life are we going to deal with acute angles? When in life is the hypagotherim theory (sp on hypa btw? heh) going to be used? I said to hell with math in all honesty. I couldnt care less what they did. Never was in school half the time, just for exams which i aced anyways (Except for math).
knives669
First you need to know this, Algebra sucks! I like you. :D LP... Shouldn't have failed Algebra in the first place. But, you don't need to hear that. Let me tell you a story. (YAY!) When I was in 7th grade, I had a math teacher that did not speak English. She was fresh outta Korea. She didn't know English, but she knew math, and she certainly knew how to fail people. I'm HORRIBLE at math. I always have been, and I think she basically crushed my chances of ever being good at it. For awhile, I was failing math. But, a few students and I all got together and started to try and teach each other how to do what she was trying to teach us. We also appointed another kid in class to try her best to translate what she was saying. Once some kids got it, they all started teaching the rest of us, and I passed that class with a C. (Granted, I had math 2nd hour and keyboarding with computers complete with Internet access 3rd hour... So Google taught me alot as well.) You need to keep your morale up and start applying yourself more. I know that other people can piss you off, but don't let them get inside your head, man. Just focus on your schoolwork. It's something you HAVE to do, and you only get basically one chance to lay down the basic foundation for your future. You cannot plant the seeds for failure in the future. You're in 11th grade this year (so am I), so you need to keep your future in mind at all times. If you screw up now, you're not going to get another chance later. Don't let temporary problems or whatever cloud your judgment. Do what you gotta do and that's it.
katha610
buy yourself a book that contains all the basic math rules. i didnt find the ap calc. book that helpful while i spend my exchange year there. ( i already did the stuff in germany so i didnt have any problems). dont stop trying and letting it go the 2nd semester. your grades go down and you might fail... no, dont wanna do that.. and if you have some questions about math, just pm me, i might be able to help you

Bubsa
So, in 9th grade I failed Algebra I, and thanks to Mr. Bushwacker, I have to take it over. Don't tell me you were serious there? If so, my first step would be to sort out that stinking attitude of yours and accept your failings as your responsibility. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. WutangFlu
I have accepted them. I knew i was going to fail, and I didnt care. I'm only retaking it beacause I have to. AND if Bush didnt become president and made that "no child left behind" proposal, and got everyone else to agree on it, I wouldnt have to take this useless class over again. And since I DO have to take it, and have no clue, I ask nicely for some help, so I can prepare for when I start.

Ragen
Sounds like my situation with French. The teacher is not inspirational, a good teacher or capable of handling the class. We might spend one lesson learning French for every two that we spend doing cross words and word searches about the stuff we already know. Bad Teacher -> No work done -> Loss of interest -> Start mucking around -> Teacher gets mad and gives us less work -> Even less interest. It's a viscious cycle. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
