New skill Idea: Music?

What would the point be? There's no practical game application for such a skill; every other skill has some kind of game application, even if it's contrived, but I don't see how the ability to play music would be useful.

So, sorry, but no, I don't see this working.

Au contrare, you nay sayers.

What is the point of slayer? What is the point of agility? what is the point of farming or construction? The point is the same - it's a skill that gives you another option to do stuff in the game, to earn experience, to build quests around, all that.

I do see uses for music.

1. Shear entertainment. We have all those "pointless" emotes, so we can have pointless musical performances, too.

2. Music soothes the beastly heart. If you play music, certain creatures won't attack you while wondering through their territory. Certain creatures that would otherwise kill you dead.

3. As an extension of crafting and/or construction, the ability to build instruments. Also the ability to play that organ in the Seers temple.

No offense man, but personally i don't like the idea. Music...Remember, runescape is based on the medeival ages...(Please don't quote me about POHS, it was a predicted update that needed to be done, and some of the things in POHS/Construction have to do with the middle ages). But music now? We already have a pannel and thats horror to our ears already.. #-o but now runescape PLAYERS?! making MUSIC?! yeah i could imagine that that'd sound like at level 1 <.< :uhh: :shame:

i think you could somehow make a quest using music. stab the greater demon to death with your guitar for example. how awesome would that be? lol

Why? It wasn't my idea, and I didn't think of it. Google gets the credit (unless of course he stole it from somewhere else!)

Also, nowhere in the forum rules said the suggestions had to actually be good suggestions. But as we all know, often times a bad suggestion or idea can be moulded into something reasonable, workable, and interesting.

What gets me is when people post something like "I think Jagex should add something new. What do you think?"

I'm thinking that should be filed with the "Department of Redundancy Department", because that's the point of this category - present your ideas, don't ask other for them! Oh well. Even me, the cool-headed, emotionally grounded, teddy-bear can get riled once in a while.

you can play it anyway, lol. theres one in lumbridge church and the church in tutoiral island. I think its a good idea, but if it makes a real sound in the game I dont wanna stand in a crowded area and listen to noobs play music so badly that it made the kalphite queen die and never respawn again. my suggestion is that only you can hear your music or there is an option that lets you turn other players music sounds off. otherwise I have one more: this would probley be p2p. you can flecth like wood instruments or something. if it was f2p, it would give me something else to do!

Don't forget the piano in Edmond's house(East Ardougne) and wherever else pianos are. It would be an interesting skill. Maybe have some music summon or calm monsters? The instruments should be older instruments, like lyres. Also it could unlock pieces of music to play (like music we have now). If you could find more uses for it, it could be good.

Hmm this is bit off topic, but I'd hardly consider Tai Bwo Wannai medeival... way to primitive. Besides different areas of runescape seem to be in different eras. But regardless, there was music in medeival periods...

Here's my two cents.

Rather than making new spells and spell areas, we could use this to make new spell-like abilities, kind of like prayer. Maybe low level music could raise magic def and magic attack, similarly to prayer. Maybe you could sing a tune while you fish which would make them bite more often. etc etc.

Higher level music abilities could induce sleep or fear in targets, or confuse them, making them attack themselves until they are hit or something like that.

(to induldge on this, unlike entangle, those sleeping would not be able to move or attack, but would wake up on the first hit that deals damage. Fear would be similar, except that it would last for the whole duration.

You guys gotta use your brain... though honestly these examples could be used with any kind of ability, such as prayer or music... even something like aura...

Er.. Why?

Actually, we've managed to turn what was a pretty lame idea into something that has merit and use. I think we've done quite well as a team. I think Jagex should hire us. (I can use the extra income)

I was just thinking... Instead of "Music" as a skill, I'm wondering if the idea could be expanded to include "Performaning Arts".

The main jist of this conversion would be the ability to "unlock" a lot of various emotes. We have a few things in game already that lean us to this - the Fremmy trials quest, the Mime random event, just to name a couple.

In some other games (notably, Dungeons and Dragons) there is a basic characteristic called "Charisma." This is often misinterpreted as "good looks" but is better defined as leadership capabilities. My experiences in real life have taught me that leadership is something that can be learned, trained, and improved upon.

I'm not sure exactly how this could be presented in game terms, but here are some ideas:

1. Negotiations with NPC's - We have the ring of Charos, but with a high enough leadership skill, you wouldn't need the ring.

2. Quest requirements - this idea opens up a lot of ideas in quests and mini-games. Your job is to lead a group of npc's into battle. The size and strength of that group is determined by your skill ranking. Say an army of gnomes, perhaps?

I'm interested in what the rest of you think about this. Now, if you come back with "It's a stupid idea! They'll never do it" or "This has no purpose in the game" or (my personal favorite) "It will ruin the economy", take comfort in the fact that I will totally ignore your response and not have my feelings hurt because of it.
