Wrench_150
I'm getting a laptop for...and I found this at Alienware, since most of my friends said Alienware is a good company. I looked on some other peoples' threads and I saw that most of them suggested Dell, Toshiba, Acer, and Alienware. I have looked on Dell, Newegg, and Alienware... I came up with this from Alienware since it comes with functions I like best, but will it run smoothly to play RuneScape sometimes and mostly doing schoolwork? If you don't think that laptop is good enough, could you recommend one? I just pretty much want the key pad with the numbers on the side instead of ontop and have 17 inches or more. I couldn't find one on Dell. :( Newegg had some okay stuff, but I couldn't find one with the numbers on the side, lol, it really matters to me. Also i got around 1,000-1,500 to spend, although I can go to 2,000 if it's good. Alienware one...http://www.alienware.com/product_detail ... LT#pdp-nav Err, no idea how you do that link thing...lol  Newegg doesn't have what I want...I checked out Dell, and I came up to the XPS M1210, but it's kinda small, I really wanted atleast 17 inches. Also I found Inspiron E1705 which isn't all that bad, it has the size of screen I want...lol. These are some of the things i would like to be on my laptop. 1 Gb is fine with me, I'll get 2gb if the laptop is pretty cheap. 17 inches. Under 9 pounds. 1.83 Ghz or maybe 1.66. Mmm, so could anyone help me please? 99 Fletch~~99 WC~~79/81 Fishing87/94 Magic~~84 RangeEtha! Anesthesia
Don't waste money on a laptop which is overkill if all you want to do is play runescape and work on it. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
Cruiser
I'm getting a laptop for...and I found this at Alienware... What do you plan on doing with it. Playing new PC games? Just RS? Just school? Kinda hard to post options when nobody knows what you're buying it for.
Wrench_150
Yeah, sorry that was kinda a typo...I said later on that i'll be playing a bit of rs but mostly school work...school kinda requires that your laptop can do high gaming, for editing and such. 99 Fletch~~99 WC~~79/81 Fishing87/94 Magic~~84 RangeEtha! Sinkhan
What school are you going to? I don't think there's really any program that needs a whole lot of power to run while still relating to school...at most that'd be Flash MX or Photoshop, and even then it doesn't take that much. School is really just word processing. You wouldn't need that much of a high-end computer to play RS and do school work. Something to fill my sig with until I find a replacement. Also check out my blug

Sorry, I missed that little blurb. :x The only reason you would need anything that would run high end games for school would be for doing CAD work. Even then, high end laptops don't come close to the dual chip setups real shops will be using for large CAD rendering. If you're doing lots of work in Photoshop, a good processor and a decent amount of RAM will do just fine. If it's video editing, lots of RAM and lots of disc space. If you aren't doing either of those, you don't need a high end laptop for school work. Any new laptop on todays market will play RS and do word processing like it's nothing. (Yes, even the $600 laptops) You can also buy yourself a usb keypad for a seperate number pad if you absolutely have to have one.

Yes...I like literally outside all day at school, you think i can plug a desktop on a tree? Maybe in a century, but yes, it has to be mobile. Laptops do cost a lot...I would get a desktop, but i already have one and they only want laptops. 99 Fletch~~99 WC~~79/81 Fishing87/94 Magic~~84 RangeEtha! Faux
Get a Toshiba Satellite. Go for something 15.4" monitor or less. You would not want to lug around a 17" laptop. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
Chris
Get a Toshiba Satellite. Go for something 15.4" monitor or less. You would not want to lug around a 17" laptop. That's the smartest thing I think I've ever seen you say. If you want a portable get something with a smaller screen. If you want a desktop replacement, carry on and get a laptop with a huge screen, high spec processor and a fast GPU. These Alienware laptops aren't meant to be used as portable laptops, you'd get what? 2 hours of use on the battery max. Where-as if you get a true portable laptop you should be OK to use it for up to 8 hours. If you're looking at a laptop to use outside, pay no attention to the spec. Pay all your attention to the battery life. Notoriously Trollish.
Paladin05
Ok. So your looking to purchase a laptop for education and gaming. You also said your doing some editing right? And if I'm not mistaken you probably play other games such as Runescape with possibly better graphics right? Than you might want to purchase something with a fast processer, good graphics card, as well as as someone else mentioned, a laptop with long time battery power. I was thinking DELL but you already checked. But if I'm not mistaken can't you customize it the way you want? I get magazine advertisements and I read around and saw you could get it customized. Anyways if you don't want that, than I say go witha Toshiba. I'm not exactly familiar with their products but I've gotten many good reviews from computer experts. Well I'm not sure if this is going to help, but it's just a suggestion. Thanks, Paladin05 8-) (By the way, wasn't the Alien computer company taken over by Dell. I mean like didn't they buy the company out?) :?: Come visit me and all the top Runescrafters in:Runesmart Rune Shop. (RRS) We sell cheapest! Guaranteed! Faux
That's the smartest thing I think I've ever seen you say. *slap* Anyway, there's always the ultraportables out there. laptopmag.com notebookreview.com How much batt. life does that 17" have? 2-3 hours? Since you keep saying "Yes...I like literally outside all day at school, you think i can plug a desktop on a tree? Maybe in a century, but yes, it has to be mobile. Laptops do cost a lot...I would get a desktop, but i already have one and they only want laptops." Ultraportable is your best bet. @Paladin: Yeah, Dell (literally) owns Alienware :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
