Hawt  ...Awesome work. I don't know my guitars very well, but the material on the blue part seems very blurr on the close up.

. I'm playing that EXACT guitar that you just modeled there..!!!! Same colour etc.

Minor details that are wrong. The dials (tone, tone and volume) the numbers are put the wrong way. Flip them around so they arent upside down. Also a really, really minor thing is if the guitar is placed like in the 3rd pic with volume and tone facing you the numbers would be like this.

Volume

8,9,10, big space, 1

Tone = same thing.. maybe a bit more to the left ;).

Sorry for the tough details but, lol.. its a good render and its gotta be perfect :).

if i remember correctly, i remember seeing an in-depth tutorial on how to make guitars in 3dsmax, just like the 1 u got there... it sure is nice tho

Tuts in modelling are a tad bit different then tuts for programs like Photoshop. There's plenty of room for error and a lot relies on your own abilities.

Yep, the numbers need fixing. I noticed it too, but it already was too late. :-)

I used to have that exact same guitar in red also, i finaly got enough money for a les paul voodoo though. XD! By the way have you ever considered going pro with your work? Everyone knows you easily could, that guitar is down to the most minute detail real life perfect.

It looks okay, but a few things stand out.

1. The fret wire is a little too thick, should be thinner.

2. The knobs are a little too high.

3. The pickguard is not a straight extrude on a strat, it is beveled, and has 3 layers ranging from white, black, white. I'm sure you'll see this if you look.

4. I might have miscounted, but it seems you have 22 frets, strats only have 21.

5. The screws look too big.

6. The 5 way switch knob, that is a bit too bulky, its normally more of a cone shape.

I think if you sorted out those, then the modelling could be pretty much done. The next thing to look at would be lighting and materials, especially the chrome/metal material. Also, try some other positions for your white plane (sky), usually to the left and high works.

Thanks for the criticism, Entangle.

1. Agreed.

2. Already fixed.

3. It is beveled, maybe just not enough. What do you mean with the layers?

4. You've miscounted. :-)

5. Agreed.

6. I didn't have it in my own Strat, so it was 'freehand' modeled.

And yes, there's too much specularity in the chrome material.

ALSO, too saturated wood material and speckle in the paint. :-)

But hey, it's my second guitar. :P

What I meant by layered is that Strat pickguards are made in 3 layers, there is a bottom layer of white, a second layer of black, and then another layer of white, it's just how they are. Of course, you can get alternate coloured ones too, but there are never just plain white pickguards (well maybe on squiers)
