August 1, 200619 yr in POH it sais you get more prayer xp if the burners on the altar are lit and you use bones on it. I tried using tinderbox on the altar but it said nothing interesting happens. They run out after a minute or so. The burners next to the altar are where you put the marrs and the altar itself is where you put the bones. Good luck. January 13, 200818 yr in order to have the bonus xp, i think you must have atleast a teak altar to make any real difference. and you need incense burners and a t box and marrentill to light it. No the burners are the things next to the alters that you CAN light... Apparently, my signature was to big.
January 13, 200818 yr it tought that torches are only decoration. It is so confusing this. The Incense burners that you can build at certain levels, that are next to the alters (one on each side) and that you CAN light give the bonus prayer exp. The candles on the alter ARE just decoration. If you don't understand now and are still confused then I havent the slightest idea how to explain to you. Apparently, my signature was to big.

January 13, 200818 yr OK, while in build mode you'll see "candle" build spots, you must build oak incense burners (61 construction) or better to use with marrentills for the bonus. Once your burners are lit, use (not bury) the bones on the alter for the bonus to take effect. The candles on the alter itself are purely for decoration.
