The story of a kid with no legs.

Featured Replies

Hey, My name's Theimmortals, or at least that's what you can call me. I have a little story to share.

(Ed. note: It spans a few boards so I wasn't sure where to put it. General seemed the best idea)

My stor is that of how I got a ban and permanant mute in one day, trying to help people, no less. You see, a friend of mine was trying to beat Recipie for disaster, and I say, well maybe I can send you a check list of things to do. So, says he, There's no way to send it, is there. I ask, "Well, do you have an e-mail adress?" At that point he reported me for PII. First off, I had no clue. Second off, I didn't ask him for an email adress, I asked if he had one. He could have simply said, no, I don't want to share that with you. However, it went down as a black mark. I tried appealing it. here's what I said:

"After being reported I researched PII. I had no clue that e-mail is an identifiable information. I had simply wished to help my friend out with a quest, so I tried to see if I could send him a checklist of requirments. Honestly, I'm not a hacker, so I had no clue that you could identify someone with it. He didn't give me the adress, anyways, so I don't believe harm was done. I won't ask again."

It was denied, saying I broke the rules, anyways. However, my account was unbanned and unmuted. What still remains is my black marks (The other one's a different story, just as lame, too) and that if I ever am reported, I'll be permanently banned, no questions, no second chances.

Here's what I want to know-

1. If you read that thoroughly, did I really break the rules?

2. If you think I did, was the punishment a bit harsh?

3. Do black marks ever go away, and if so, how long does it take?

I'm not on my last leg, I have no legs to lean on at all.

You didn't really break any rules, I 'kinda' can understand why Jagex gave you a black mark though, since if he did say yes, you probably would've asked him for his e-mail afterwords, which would be breaking a rule.

Well, I personally don't think it was harsh, it could've been worse, a black mark or two is nothing over losing your account.

And they'll never go away, they're there to stay unfortunately.

Eh, yeah. But with the punishment, a good portion of it was lifted, thank god. Permanant mute and a ban (I don't know how long it was supposed to be) until it was resolved.

I would myself see this as breaking a rule, since asking if someone has an e-mail does often lead to an answer containing the email adress itself. Even though your innocent, Jagex can't really understand you so you'll just have to take it as it is. Try reading all the rules again thoroughly, not just the title and the small presentation, but all of it, and the FAQs. But it was quite mean of that guy to report you though...

well i asked my friend if he had a email ingame and he sead yes but he dose not want to give it out makes cents so i seams like we did the same thing and your friend dos not seam like a vary nice one any ways sry to here you got a black mark but i cant blame him btw how long have you known your friend?

By 'fittest' do you mean 'most selfish brat with the fastest internet connection?'

Even helping these days has become dangerous.

From your story your intentions were not questionable but yeah it is breaking a rule & it's hard for Jagex to know your intentions. So it's much better that your ban got lifted & unmuted.Just don't do anything stupid from now on otherwise it's all over for you with that account.Your friend seems a bit weird might want to consider that.

Btw the title of the the topic was a bit dramatic.

Thanks to WithTheQuickness for the sig!

That's what I thought. :XD:

To be honest, I disagree with chaos reborn. Even though you were likely going to break a rule, technically you didn't. I don't think you should have been reported, or punished. However, Jagex has never been much on technicalities, unless they incriminate you.

ouch tough break mate....just remember to never ask anyone any personal information whatsoever if there is even the slightest chance of being reported

Oh yah, as said earlier, read the FAQs by all the rules if you're ever unsure. By reading this rule's FAQ I found out that asking for the email address is against the rules:

What does personal details include?

Personal details are considered to include email addresses and Instant Messenger screen names/contact details.

KwimSigFinal-1.png?t=1304744327

Combat 116+; Total 1900+; All Hard Tasks; (Nearly) All quest points; (Nearly) All skills 60+; An aquatic moose ninja.

Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. Interruptions of agility when I feel like it, as well.

And lucky enough to get 4 Dragon and 6 Barrow Drops.

[hide]Kwimbob now looks exactly like me in real life except for hair color. Yes, this means I look exactly like the protagonist of that certain anime that my second character, Faye_V is also named after. Yes, I bought a jacket that also looks like his. No in real life I don't have a slain bear to sling over my shoulders. Yes, I'm that skinny even if I no-life it for years in basements. No, I can't shoot a gun. Yes, I can win any other strategic video game you have never played - because I probably have, ahahaha. And yes, I also have brown eyes, yet one of my eyes looks different from the other. And yes, I'm completely oblivious to the [real] world around me as I constantly engineer new solutions to daily problems in my head. When I get hungry, all that isn't food can wait. When I'm sleepy - nothing is of any priority in front of sleep. But at any other time, I never slow down. Never give up. Never Surrender. Makes for a good life.

[hide]YOU'RE GONNA CARRY THAT WEIGHT.

- See You, Space Cowboy.[/hide][/hide]

But Kwimbob he asked if he had an email address, not what was his email address there a difference between the two

For one think call this friend of yours a stupid noob which u can do and is certainly not against the rules. The punishment was very harsh but lets face it when has jagex ever been fair to anybody. Blacks marks never leave i think i have one

Sorry about your situation. But you headed down the wrong path the minute you offered to send him a checklist of things to do.

Here's what I always say: "Check a fansite for a quest guide."

Even if I knew someone well enough to send them something (and remember, that means *they* are getting *your* email address, too!), doing so would take up my time. Whereas someone who is too lazy to just look on a fansite isn't worth my effort, anyway (that's just my personal opinion, though).

*If* they don't know any fansites, once upon a time I would give examples, saying "check a fansite, such as tip it or runehq". But no more. I now tell them to do a web search (and you can't say google or yahoo either!), as we all know that saying a fansite name can potentially get us into trouble. (The rule was originally intended to keep people from flooding general chat saying "check my new website http://www.tip.it!! over and over, but some people think you can't suggest a fansite, and who wants to lose their account over that?)

Avoiding breaking the rules means a lot more silence on my part, too, so I know how frustrated you must be. It could be a lot worse, however. An adult I know was *joking* with a close friend about his own password (saying he was broke, and did the friend want to see for himself). A nearby pmod reported him, and ... HE LOST HIS ACCOUNT - APPEAL DENIED - PERM BANNED. He is devastated.

Just like going through airport security in real life, joking about the rules is to be avoided.

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.

Cleaned spam / flames.

Do not post unless it is on topic you know who you were... :shame:
