Stolen Munch paintings found safe

Two masterpieces by artist Edvard Munch have been recovered two years after they were stolen from an Oslo museum.

The Scream and Madonna were found in a police operation. "We are 100% certain they are the originals. The damage was much less than feared," police said.

They had been missing since two armed men ripped them from the wall and threatened staff at the Munch Museum in the Norwegian capital in August 2004.

Three men were found guilty of charges relating to the theft in May.

Aaah! Great!

One year before they were stolen I was in Oslo visiting the museum. My dad already was amazed to see such a great collection of art (not just the Munchs) without serieus protection.

I'm very happy they're back. Let's hope they're not to severely damaged.

It is really good to see that an excellent piece of art work can be returned to its rightfull viewing place.

Let's hope they catch the two other guys.

If a turtle doesnt have a shell, is it naked or homeless ?

To be honest (and sorry to sound very pessimistic here, but I would like to share my views without being flamed at for them) I wouldn't care either way whether The Scream was destroyed or returned in perfect condition.

Art is art; and that means it is what it is. There is no point trying to change it unless it is straight from the heart. It must travel the roads of time without the crushes of society slowly, painfully destroying it...

Sorry if that sounded weird, I just dunno how to put it...

hehehe, Imhomer like .

I'd heard about this being stolen but I didn't really think they'd be recovered. I heard that in May the fined a few people around $122 million for the theft. I'm glad they recovered it.

That's very good news. I remember when that happened. I thought they would never be seen again.

true, how much are they? 100 mill each? good that they are back and not sold to a private person (in ... maybe 100 yrs  )

There not a $100 million a pop. I think one of the most expensive paintings ever sold was a Van Gogh for $80 million dollars. But I could be wrong.

EDIT: Just checked and a painting by Gustav Klimt sold for $135 million in June. The Van Gogh is the second most expensive.

Just this second seen it on the news, admitidly it does look like a 6 year old drew it, and it looks like a lop sided man....

It's called Dadism and I'd like to see you do something similar as you are obviously more experienced and older than a 6 year old.

Admittedly, some of the world's best art (in my opinion) has been done by six-year-olds. People of this age have the intelligence to understand that art is a personal thing and they need to let it flow, as it should feel right.

*cough*

But yeah, I agree with TheLeader.
