imaleber
Sorry if this has ever been mentioned before, but after recently visiting another forum, i found that they prevented double posting by combining a person's post into one when they posted two or more consequtivemessages. Just a suggestion. =p 99 Ranged F2P achieved 21 November (2961st)
Rcty
I guess you need to be more specific...Give an example. I understand what you're saying, I just can't...like...comprehend it. :? ~Rcty Rcty

I understand what you're saying, I just can't...like...comprehend it. :? ~Rcty Well okay, sorry for the lack of elaboration. But what i mean is, say a person for whatever reason posts twice consecutively (also known as a double post), instead of creating two seperate posts, the site would instead combine the two. Now you may ask the point of this, but this would reduce the number of people who only post for count etc. Thanks for listening. =p 99 Ranged F2P achieved 21 November (2961st)
bambino
It's a good idea, the only problem is that sometimes people have to doublepost to bump their topics to the top of the page, so everyone can see they have added a new opinion, or information etc... I know what I know and what I know might well not be what you want to know but then seeing as only I know what I know and you do not know what I know then you will not know if what I know is what you would like to know

Well i knew someone would soon say that, and yes, there is a way to combat this. There is a bump button instead which you would just click and would take your post to the top of the page. No post is submitted and this can only be activated after your post had dissapeared from the front page. Hope i explained it clearly enough. =p 99 Ranged F2P achieved 21 November (2961st)
Mercifull
No, imaleber. People have discussed the idea of a "bump" button in the past and there should never be a good reason to use it. Ks_Jeppe
IMO a simply javascript code which disables the submit and reset buttons when you click them once... i'm counting on making this for the contact us form on the main site as well, since we get a lot of double posts from there as well... imaleber
Well i did say that it's just a suggestion. Thanks for listening anyway. 99 Ranged F2P achieved 21 November (2961st)
Mercifull
Well i did say that it's just a suggestion.A suggestion which has been discussed in great length several times and everytime was concluded that it was a stupid idea with no merit. And how can you conclude that it's such a bad idea? A pretty thoughtless and directed post in my opinion. 99 Ranged F2P achieved 21 November (2961st)
Mercifull
Just to clarify i mean the idea of a "bump button" is the stupid idea not the one consolodating double posts together. I will explain only briefly because it has already been discussed before as you would have known if you bothered to search. There should never be a need to "bump" your topic to the top with a special button. If you have something new to add to the thread, some new information or another comment then you just post that normally and it will be taken to the top of the thread list. If nobody is posting on the topic then its usually for a good reason, either it was a poor topic for discussion or it has just naturally died. Bumping a dead topic to the top is unlikely to make it active again and will just infuriate people who's active topics get pushed down the page because of people spam bumping. Notorious_Ice
This is what he is talking about http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... ledbr1.png If you post twice in a row, the 2 posts merge together. I blacked out part of it to keep it G rated. And im pretty sure that even if you make double posts merged, it still bumps the post. It could help keep these forums cleaner, ive seen lots of double posting. btw the posts from this guy are halarious OMG I BROKES TEH INTERNET!!!1111111 Don't be afraid your life will end, be afraid it will never begin. ____
On a clan forum for PirstonTale, one of the admins installed a mod to merge "double posts" together. It seems to work well there and I believe it does still act like a bump. With the second last post being merged into the last, or something. Updating the post time. Not sure how it works, but it still "bumps". That I have no problem with. But I agree with Matt about a button to bump a topic. If you have a reason to bump a topic, you should post. If it's just a bump just for the hell of it, get off the internet. Such instances of that should have the topic locked immediately.

Eeeeediot
Yes, that's a pretty good idea. As is this: IMO a simply javascript code which disables the submit and reset buttons when you click them once... i'm counting on making this for the contact us form on the main site as well, since we get a lot of double posts from there as well... Which serves the same function and is much easier to implement :) Edit, some resources: http://willmaster.com/possibilities/arc ... 8001.shtml http://www.jguru.com/faq/view.jsp?EID=280434
