michiel2
That's pretty cool. 6 people got 59% of the entire economy. :o If you have a refrigerator, a bed and a home you're richer than 75% of the world. You can learn alot from it. :) At least, I think that.

BlueLancer
I can't believe anybody would insult this. It's true. If you are educated enough to be able to write and read, you have a computer, you have an internet connection and you are posting on this thread, you should feel blessed. You are an absolute minority in the world if you have an internet connection at home. And yes, the wealth distribution in the world is absolutely * up. While sometimes your life can feel like crap, seriously remember those people that spend less than $400 a year on living. That's how much you'd spend on a new gaming console. If you are immature enough to think "they deserve it" I feel sorry for you. Nobody really deserves to live a life of extreme poverty, you don't have a choice where you are born. While you can't alone fix everything, you can help a little. One of the easiest ways: http://www.thehungersite.com/ Just visit the site daily and click the button. It's so easy and it works, while it doesn't cost you anything than a few seconds of your time. :) I've heard those statistics before, but what are we supposed to do about it? what can we do? nothing... If you're determined, there's ALWAYS something you can do to help. I naturally feel obliged to help those people who were unfortunate with their birth country, because I feel genuinely sorry for them. "We can do nothing". It's not true. If every western person contributed $3 from their every paycheck, (about 800 million westerners in the world) it equals $2.1 billion dollars every month, and it doesn't affect our lifestyle in any way. Tell me, how such an action would not help? While nobody collects your money, you can always volunteer to contribute some. It's one of the many ways to help. And believe me, some of them have pretty deep pockets and get good publicity for advertising on the site. Every click funds about 1 staple of rice. :)
Evadek
Hmm i doubt it makes the slightest difference on those figures... well, they do something with it, who cares? if it wasn't for the starving people in africa, we'd have a load more crazy Christian Missionaries cleaning their consciences over there spreading the word of Jesus to all who live in mud huts and stick bones through their ears
Bubsa
Hmm i doubt it makes the slightest difference on those figures... For God's sake man, I didn't run in the pouring rain in a thong for bloody nothing. We can all make a difference, no matter how or how much we do, but we must do something. You must never accept defeat when you don't even try, in anything in life, never mind this kind of thing. If everyone carried that attitude we wouldn't be sitting here now. Simple as. Come on man, lighten up a bit! Life's meant to be a challenge, you know? : This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
BlueLancer
Life's meant to be a challenge, you know? I can't stress enough to other people how much more interesting their lives would be if they understood the above phrase... Instead of having everything spoonfed to you, going to school, getting a job, retiring and having a nice marble grave, there CAN be something else if you have the will. malo2
quite a scary video, I didnt know that only 3% of the world are connected to the internet, and 6% of people control most of the worlds wealth... Who could have imagined there are so many poor people out there? we only hear about the rich nowdays, meaning the people who dont go hungry for days. Striker6
When did this become a lecture on life being a challenge? When did paying $2 a month of whatever become a challenge? And don't assume my life is perfect because it isn't. Although those figures are impressive Blue Lancer the reality is not. 2.1 billion a month, I doubt they recieve a tiny percentage of that. In any case don't assume I don't feel compassion to these people it's just in reality it doesn't always work out. Remember live 8 last year "make poverty history". Ragen
Remember live 8 last year "make poverty history". Didn't seem to do a whole lot of good... So then we try again and we keep on trying till we do nail it. Giving in after a few failed attempts wont get us anywhere. If everyone changes their attitude then we will succede. We just need everyone to do it, not pass along the responsibility to someone else. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! WutangFlu
Its very sad, something as simple as sharing, something we were tought by our parennts growing up, could easily make the world a much better place for everyone to live in.. but their are so many selfish people out their, that dont care enough to share with others, and help out their fellow man. I just hope that people growing up this day in age realise that something as simple as sharing, can make a big difference. If all the money in the world was spread evenly amongst all the people of the world. I beleive it might be a world in which everyone can live happily... But I do not know. they're will always be that money-hungry tyrant who wants to be bigger, and better, and richer than everyone else. Sadly thats human nature. I guess the best thing we can do now, is do our part in helping one another, and spreading the word to people, and our generations to come, and maby someday everyone will be as one, everyone equal, in all meanings of that word. Nathaninch
I don't know... Maybe I'm on a totally different wavelength here, but what we consider 'hardships' are all these people know. It's all relative. If you were to be thrown into the midst of daily African life with your present state of mind you'd be done for. You'd kill yourself or something. But the people who live those lives day in and day out, don't know of another life, and in my opinion probably experience as much joy and sorrow in their lives as you or I will. At the same time, the massive loss of life from starvation, disease or war is simply intolerable.
bacab
Do you know that money some of you give to Jagex each month for members? Why do you give it to a rich company when you could give it to charity? Why spend it on entertainment when you could spend it on food for the poor? Honestly, think about these things. There are other ways to get free entertainment. For instance, I have the attention span of a cat, a ball of yarn or a shiny object or a flashlight is all I need sometimes. Try this out -> get a notebook and write down a daily log of what you pay for and how much you pay for it. Do this for a month. Then after the month read through the note book and highlight the unnecessary crap. Save all your receipts and staple them to the book. You'd be surprised. If all the money in the world was spread evenly amongst all the people of the world. I beleive it might be a world in which everyone can live happily... But I do not know. they're will always be that money-hungry tyrant who wants to be bigger, and better, and richer than everyone else. Sadly thats human nature. I think what you're describing is called COMMUNISM. It works in theory (i.e. John Lennon's song "Imagine") but as you said... well, just look towards Russia. We don't rebel to sell it just suits us well, we're the bright young things.
