**~ First Pixel, WIP - Update #7 - Shaded BG ~**

Featured Replies

I took off all the images and made them links, so it opens a little faster, took me 5 minutes of waiting to get in to edit it... -.-

This is the first time i've tried anything like this so CC please \'

OK here is the second BG update, I just did a rough draft of the shading to get the basic feel for it, I think I got it mostly right,

- the coins are shaded light to dark going up because the parts at the bottom stick out from the wall the farthest, so are exposed to more sunlight

BG Update #1

BG Update #2

So here is the first draft of the shading, of course some parts I had too much of a color change in the gradient eg. the banner

BG Todo List

- Shade better

- Texture Coing

- Texture Sand

- "Decorate" the sky

- Add a picture to the banner

Here is what i've done so far:

The Sketch

Update #1

Update #2

Update #3

Update #4

Update #5

This is my latest update, I finaly finished all of the shading, although I think I will go back and dither the skin parts. I got rid of all those tacky black lines, to keep it more "clean". I made the Ice barrage look better. And I curved the dark and light shding in towards the crease on the boots, a feeble attempt to make it look like it's bending :wall: .

Parts Not Shaded:

- IT'S ALL SHADED!!! (unless I missed a part)

And for a BG

- (done) I think in her left hand I might put in an ancient staff

- help me choose one

Cad: Are the eyes more of what you thought they should be now?

Homer: I tried to fix the nose, is that better?

And i'm bad with hands, as you can see with the one holding the ancient staff, but I think I did that one halfway decent so I dont wanna mess with it and make it any worse :ohnoes:

Mmm, skimpy. :P

Looks good so far, eyes and hands look weird though.

There's also no feel of feet being in the boots, it looks like stub legs.

Good work, keep going. :)

Skimpy FTW!Despite how I hate anime..........yes, even anime porn

You've got real skill at drawing but I think you lost a bit when you converted it to a pixel.

I agree that the eyes are wierd. First off, they went from big, round, anime pupils to be these little dots. Second, the eyes are too small, every part of them. The eye itself needs to be larger to be proportional and, since the eyes will be larger, the irises/pupils will have to be larger too.

As for the boots "being empty" I agree with cad. I think the reason why the feel 'empty' is that there appears to be no weight put on them. When people stand like that, more than just an edge of your boot will touch the ground. Try adding a bend into the boot to make it look like she's on her toes.

Shading. Your choice of colors for the shading looks good but need to be blended better. You've just used a gradient which makes the skin look shiny and metallic and oiled up ::'. If that's what you're going for, ok, but to make it look more skimpy ...............I mean skinny .............I mean skin textured try dithering to blend the colors.

Anatomy. The nose is just wierd. Too much like a needle. I think cleaver would work better for this. The curves of her body (ahhh yes, the curves =P~) need to be done with a darker skin tone and the part in her hair with a darker yellow. The black lines don't work. I understand that yes, it is anime, but even for anime the head seems a tad bit too large for the body.

There's needs to be a joint in here left (our right) arm where the elbow is. I see it was in the drawing but didnt make it to the pixel stage so just add that in with a darker skin tone.

So, in short:

*make the eyes larger and less encroached by the skin.

*try putting a bend in the boots to make it look like wieght is being placed on them instead of her just floating through the air (unless that's what you were going for)

*You choice of colors for the shading is good, just try to blend them more.

*use darker colors for your lines but not black. A black outline is ok but please, not in the middle of the pixel.

*Work a bit on your anatomy (and yes, even anime has anatomy). Focus on the nose, eye shape and size, head size, and elbow.

Nice update, the colours look better now. :)

Looking forward to seeing this finished, the colour choices are great.

But please, fix the eyes. In the sketch she's like "chyea, check me out". But in the pixel she's like "omgz wtp is on my foot?!".

knkcopy.jpg

WOW at that sketch , looking good so far, still much to do though. :)

In the sketch she's like "chyea, check me out". But in the pixel she's like "omgz wtp is on my foot?!".

Eyes still look odd, they need to be bigger as they are in the sketch.

But still, good job on the shading.

knkcopy.jpg

Keep shading, and fix the eyes. Also are you planning on adding a background?

Are you sure she isnt wearing too much?

Seriously though, very nice work although the line down her stomache makes it look like she's just had a massive operation.

Critisims

Eyes nose and mouth all need a bit of a re do

Fingers are all the same length

Calf's are the same thickness as thighs

Feet arnt flat on the floor and there isnt really a change from leg to foot

I know mabye I should take some more off  JK

but i dont like messing around with anatomy too much after i've got it pretty good, at least in my drawings, when i do It totally screwes up the drawing

Yay i got a "very good" on my first pixel \'

If ur pixels always look like crp mabye you should listen to this ::'

Although it is my first pixel it looks halfway decent because I put some time into it, unlike those 5 minute masterpieces you always make...

Just a word of advice ^^

Looks a lot better but a few things with the shading. Getting rid of the black lines especially in her hair really helped a lot.

You've shaded parts of the face the same way you shaded the chest. From this sig I get the feeling that her head is thrust forward which would give it a different lighting. Because it's shaded the same way as her chest it looks like her head is right on her shoulders and there's no neck .

As cad said before the boots still feel like they don't have much in them. Sorry, but I don't know of a better way to put it.

The left eye (her right) still semms a bit small, both the eye itself and the iris/pupil.

Finally, her left hand (our right). The thumb ooks a little too round and sausage-like, very different from the other digits. Also use a bigger differential to shade the hand because I can barely tell that it's shaded right now. Remember, unlike her arms her hand is not in the shadow of her body.

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn you really got beter =)

i remmember all your "rate my 3rd pixel!!!!" posts lol....

and your 4th one was titled like: "oh noes! another pixel by nubby" and everybody was like: yep. got that right

hehehe... then you started flaming everybody coz we gave cc #-o

anyway,

But please, fix the eyes. In the sketch she's like "chyea, check me out". But in the pixel she's like "omgz wtp is on my foot?!".

hehe that made me laugh

as for cc, make the transition lines between the shading smoother, looks like you kinda rushed em...

wop wop

  • Author

thanks for all the cc so far my todo list:

- Fix her eyes

- reshade her face

- Fix her left hand

- Try to make her feet look like they're bending?

I think thats all for now,

and eckerds I dont know where you got the idea that i had posted any other pixel sigs before, this is my first one, mabye your thinking about some of my renders?

Everything I found wrong is already in your 'to do' list, except for the staff. To me it looks a bit small :-/, GGreat job so far though.

2 pouint post.

1st - the ice barrage still dont look that great personaly id say either have a beam as oposed to a water baloon. if not a beam then have the hand glowing and like ice and frost raining down.

2nd - the background, my thought for it is this, the top floor of castle wars next to the stand, with the view streaching into the distance, with a fight going on below. on second thoughts i want that. heh. you can still use it tho i guess.
