Quote in guide says " When you feel you are ready for the the first of three fights with the level 187. Not sure what you are stuck on here. Did you fight him 3 times yet ? I think darklight is as good as a dragon longsword against them. So using silverlight is a bad idea, darklight is fine, id reccomend doing 4 dds specials first though. Well according to the quest guide they recommend Silverlight, that is what I used and never had a problem killing him. BTW: I was only like level 78-80 cb at the time. When i did that quest, I used dlong and protect from melee, and I did fine, the fights didn't even last 30 seconds each... I was level 78 if I recall correctly.
