Using Butterflies - Animation & Boosts

Recommended Posts

Butterflies are a special type of potion. You don't use it with yourself. You use it with another person and boost his/her levels. To do that you must be in a multi-combat area AND the other person MUST have accept aid on (he wont be asked to accept the boost tough).

Red (Ruby harvest): Raises Attack

Light blue (Sapphire glacialis): Raises Defence

Dark blue(Snowy knight): Raises Hitpoints (no percentage calc'ed)

Black (Black warlock): Raises Strenght (no percentage calc'ed)

Here are the experiments I made on the boost

My friend and I used the Ruby harvest and Sapphire glacialis TWO TIMES on eachother. The level boosts were always the same so I'm assuming it's a fixed boost.

Art Crazy (me):

66 Attack --> 79 = +13

%19.6969...

64 Defence --> 77 = +13

%20.3125

Leeds4Kiddos (Leeds on the forums):

76 Attack --> 91 = +15

%20.270270...

61 Defence --> 74 = +13

%21.31 (rounded)

Maga Aurian:

70 Attack --> 84 = +14

%20 (EXACTLY)

72 Defence --> 86 = +14

%19.44...

Average Attack Boost: 20%

Average Defence Boost: 20.5% (rounded) Should get to 20% with more tries

Super pots are 20% boost acording to tip.it so I'd say these are around the same percentage.

I kept asking myself what the animation was... well it's simpler than I thought... But anyways I recorded it with the help of a friend :P

PS: The quality is bad as it's a .gif file... And if the frames seem to go to slow wait a bit, that just happens because it's loading the next frame.

Thanks to:

And all posters that have helped me with the math.

If anyone wants to submit any info, especially experiments, post here. I'll include you in the credits.

^I'd say the normal time a potion lasts per level... I don't think it'd be special and take longer/less... I didn't measure it anyways.

Also you should fix your quote :P I accidentally swapped the butterflies (kinda sleepy)

Wow, nice job!

If you test it multiple times (say 5 or 10?) it will give a good idea about the randomness.

When you are satisfied, feel free to post your data on the Hunter Updates topic http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=571638 to get it included in the guide - we are anxious to add good info like this!

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.

Yes Art! Looks like I was the guinea pig lol!

Still, I believe the other 2 butterflies will increase STR and Prayer.

People. Attack averaged 20%, defence averaged 21.115% (round to 22% for covienience).

That should solve the math.

LD Edit: Turns out I'd got it wrong!

Well, it appears I've gone into Overtype

Ok, so I averaged:

Runescape knowledge base :wink:

Caught butterflies may seem to have no immediate use, but they really come into their own when used in multi-way combat areas. These fragile but magical creatures can be released on another player in these areas, and only these areas (they cannot be used on other players fighting within single-way combat areas, for example), giving positive effects to that target player.

Ruby Harvest - Level 15 - Boosts another player's Attack.

Sapphire Glacialis - Level 25 - Boosts another player's Defence.

Snowy knight - Level 35 - Restores another player's Hitpoints.

Black warlock - Level 45 - Boosts another player's Strength.

I can't wait to get my members back! :)

Then it'd be according to the player... That means some people would have a bad boosted char and some others would have a good boosted char... I think it's just because it requires a few more levels.

BANG! THAT HIT HOME!

Notice I have 76 attack and AC 66 attack. AC got boosted 13 while I got boosted 17. It is a percentage.

I can gurantee you that it boosts 20%. Think about it this way:

I have 40 attack. 20% = 40*1.2 = 48 attack. +8 boost , that's 20%. But, 20% of 41 has to be rounded. 41*1.2=49.2, but .2 is rounded. You can't have .2 of a level. 49-41 = +8 boost, but it looks like only 19.5%.

It's just like a super pot that you can't use on yourself.

I thought of that, but I checked, and if I lowered the boost for defence by one def level, it still was over 20%, so it aint rounding from 20%... But if you show me other evidence? Did you try the butterfly or was that only math?

74 * 1.2 = 88.8 ~89

61 * 1.2 = 73.2 ~73

^That proves it's more than 20%

Thanks bud :)

But yes it's weird that my friend got a much higher boost... I'll have to research deeper.

I'd really thank you if one of you could try out some butterflies.

Duno if anyone pointed this out but ur doing an average on two results thth would seem to suggest the boost is linked to ur lvl

note 61, 64 and 66 got a +13

74 got +17

it seems to be related to ur lvl to the boost therefore
