Newfive
So did you make most of it in photoshop or 3ds max? I know photoshop cant really do 3d abstracts by itself, although there are combinations that mimick them. Nice job, the pic looks much better on deviantart
entangle
Yeah, its mostly done in max. To be honest, I hate it, the style is way past its sell by date, and it still seems that people only do these because they a) think it looks cool, so they try, or, B) They can't really do much else. I'm not having a go at you personally, I've just seen way too much of this, for way too long. Also, never post how long it took you to do something, it never helps. Guest FireFreek
Like I said before entangle, check out my gallery before you start patronizing me. I'm not some chump abstract artist, i'm simply saying that abstract art is not 'old'. Only old to you. http://www.deviantart.com/view/7534855/ http://www.deviantart.com/view/10659743/ http://www.deviantart.com/view/9861558/ No they weren't done in the 3D programs you use. Show me some of your work before you talk to me, all I see is 3D RS sigs. You think abstract is old, 3d Runescape weapon sigs are well over 3 years old on this forum. entangle
If you are painting those yourself, then why the hell are you making silly 3d abstract images? Put your talent to use, seriously if you can use photostop/painter/whatever like that, you can do so much more. Unless ofcourse thats just photos that have been filterwhored. All you have seen from me is 3D weaponry yeah, then again, It's reason I opened a 3d sig shop here, so I could make a little RS cash, easily. Weapons are 3 years old on this forum? Lovely. I did happen to post an old render of a les paul when I first joined, have fun searching for that. 3d abstract is 6 years old on every other forum, and there are well enough people who agree. Abstract art in its oldest form is also VERY VERY old. It pretty much amazes me how you I don't really have much work online anymore, seeing as I took my website offline because I couldn't be bothered to update it, and that I had so much client work todo at the time. Obviously you wont be seeing any of that for reasons. Look, I'm not causing any fights here, I just say what I think and know, I'm known for this, and literally, you arent the first person to spit back with the "oh well, show me your work if you think your so good etc etc", I've heard it all before, but then again, its the internet, this is a forum, its only opinion, and in the first place, you ask for the comment and In return ANY poster expects you to take them, whether you like them or not. Keiphus
Kngkyle.... Crate... Both of you get your noses out of other people's business... To each his own... compared to the other things on this board, that abstract is pretty good... but I guess since Entangle has been around the program and the style for so long, it is nothing new to him... I do agree though that with your brushing skills FF, you could do something so much better. Nothing wrong with deviating though, and having a little fun. I mean, all in all, "it looks cool," and anyone not in the graphics business will tell you that... I mean I'm just rambling now, so I guess the point is that there is no sense argueing, because there is no real point to make...

As for "getting my nose in other people's business", I felt I had something to say. I know abstract is old. It's a very old style of art. As I took it, FF was saying that abstract was not old. Also, I do agree on your paintings FF. They look amazing. I'd love to see more.

Kngkyle
I think FF's thing there looks sweet. and just as ryan im mainly for abstractions. I also felt that i had to say something because it seems that every thing entangle rates (thats abstract) he says is old and boring. If you think that about every abstraction then mabey you just shouldent rate abstractions? I know that the poster asked for peoples opinions and i respect your opinion, but if you have the same opinion on every abstract peice mabey you shouldent rate that style. Entangle i personally have never known you for anything except your 3d sigs. Probley because i havent been around tip.it that long. Dont want to spam his topic anymore about it. -Kng

FrothKahn
Oh, but it does get old, it's already old, you may have only just discovered it, or how to do it, but believe me when I say it's time for something new. Abstract art was founded before anyone on this forum was even born, I have no idea where you thought of that conclusion. If you really must know, I used to post on THE forums that started this type of art, I have been around along time and have seen art styles , its OVERUSED things, so don't come in here telling me I know nothing just because you can't handle the truth. Who deciphers what is good or what is bad? Do you think you do? Everyone is subject to their own individual opinion. I used to post on THE forums that started this type of art What makes you think that it is that very forum that you came from that first derived this kind of art? This is abstract art. A form of art that has been around for longer than online forums. I know that you are subject and entitled to your own opinion, but never ever deem yourself superior or sovereign. but believe me when I say it's time for something new. Other individuals are also entitled to their opinions, without having to be directed otherwise. Oh, but it does get old, it's already old How long have paintings and sculpture been around for? Isn't that old? I am not denigrating traditional art for I am also a traditional artist, but what I am pointing out and expressing is that there is not a neccessity for there to be something new. This is a style of art that is multi-faceted. Every painting is not the same ( there may be alot of portraits but they are not the same), then why should every 3-d abstract be deemed the same. InfernoNR7
I'd just like to say that it looks cool. I've always been a fan of this type of abstract, though most true (by true, I mean paintings and overpaid artists) abstract is against my taste. As to the overused part, yea, it's overused, but it does look pretty cool, so why not use it? (sorry for the run on sentence) As to those other images you posted, they look AMAZING. They look like oil paints, but they are done in Photoshop if I'm correct. I think you could show a TON of promise in this area. (hey, maybe even RS sigs in that style, looking like ancient king's paintings etc.) That's my ramble, your stuff looks great, good job.

Well the way you were 'posting your opinions', it seemed as though you were just trying to make yourself look good by saying abstract art is old. Look, I make whatever the hell I like. Sure, I can paint but it is very tedious and I like to do other things in between each painting I do. I asked for comments ON MY WORK. Not on what I enjot doing. I enjoy abstract art, I enjoy using my photoshop skills. You seem to have a problem with this. As Terry said, what is wrong with making art that looks cool. entangle
Now then, when did I say abstract art in general was created on the forum I used to visit, correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty damn sure I said this TYPE of abstract art. I don't insult your ability, I never said you were rubbish at what you do, it only what you choose to create is rubbish (no, not your paintings, those are decent) Devart? Don't make me laugh, it's been flooded on there and places like depthcore for years, both of which have gone major downhill since about 3 years ago. Its pretty funny to see these people come along thinking its new just because they've taken a liking to it/found out by the 3749472 tutorials how todo it. Art is supposed to be fun yeah, but it's also supposed to have meaning behind it. This type of "art", doesnt have meaning. Seriously, how can you put meaning and feeling into something that 80% of the online design community have created atleast once, but little variation between them, like it or not, they are all basically the same, you will NOT find a piece done in this form, that looks unique and hasnt already been done by someone. I'm finished with this post now, because I don't care for this type of art at all, and I am just wasting my time trying to get through to you. Where you may think I am just a little 13 years old behind a screen with a big ego, In reality I am not. Well sorry but all you have shown me is your arrogent, know-it-all side of your personality. Abstract art has meaning. There is a difference between someone who does a 5 minute render and change the colours in photoshop and somebody who actually puts their feelings into their work. Obviously you can't tell the difference between the two. Maybe you've been hanging around Runescape forums a bit too much. You seem to think that only your opinion is correct here. and I am just wasting my time trying to get through to you. What you are trying to say to me is 'Abstract art has been done time and time again, it has no meaning at all and is totally pointless.' Maybe you should stop forcing me to think that your opinion is a fact and start pulling your head out from your arse.
entangle
You seem to think I mean abstract art as a whole, when I only mean THIS type of art. 'Abstract art has been done time and time again, it has no meaning at all and is totally pointless.' For this type, yes totally. That is 100% true. Can you honestly say someone who DOWNLOADS a 3d program, then just whacks a few modifiers on some geometry, renders it out and then post works on it, put any feeling whatsoever into that piece? I think not, because the progress is repeated over and over again for each piece. "Mean Green Fighting Machine", there's yet another title of one of these "abstracts" that has no relevance to the image at all, just randomly thought title and slapped on there. Seriously, what possibly thing can that title bind to in that image? Its green, oh wow, big meaning. I don't know why these are even considered abstract, they don't really have any properties of real abstract art, it's just a trend that has got way overused in every design community at one point, and can never be considered original. Runescape forums? What's that got todo with anything? And for your information, this is the only runescape forum I visit, and also, opinion is neither right or wrong, its simply..just an opinion.
