A few 3D Studio Max renders; in desperate need of feedback!

Right. I've had 3D Studio Max 6 for about a week now. I've been messing around with it a few hours everyday basically (been sick), reading tutorials and thelike; thus I consider myself decent enough to post a few.

I basically just messed around - and since I have no clue how to add textures in 'Max, I decided to make the best of it, in Photoshop.

Psychmetricopy.th.png

My first real trend-'hore render. I know that the brushing is terrible, the render itself is rather plain... and it hasn't got that "KA-POW" look most good 'Max renders have.

Teh 'SHROOOMS are here!!

Yeah... mhm... sickness -> illusions -> craxy pict-oh-rs.

Made it today. It probably had over 30 layers in the end - I had my fun with the almighty layer masks.

And before you ask, yes the 'SHROOOMS was made using a tutorial.

So if there are any experienced 'Max users here, please give me some input and feedback of what I did good, and what/the many things I could've done better.

One other thing; are there any presetted textures?! Because each one I make are lame-lame. Yes. Help?

Oh yeah, please do not post comments such as "cool 7/10". That is just blatant spam, and they are really getting on my nerves. Seriously - don't.

That would be all! :)

Hmm nice sigs, the first 2 are nice, but not very easy to understand whats going on in them.

The Shrooms are lovely though, I love the way on the closest shroom it really looks 3d on the stalk :P .

Lowgravity, I want to be just like you. But...I never will be as 1337 as you. :(

I know Nadril, I like to something done with the program. In all fairness, anyone and his dad can create "abstracts".

Then why don't we see everyone with these ownage abstracts around? :? :P

Since i mean, everyone can do it, and theres a 30 day trial for 3d studio max and a trial for photoshop...

Probably because its easier to make a crappy abstract render w/ tutorial, than it is todo the post work in photoshop.

"Ownage abstract"? No such thing.

Create something that actually makes use of the program.

Man, I just love these kind of comments. I did not get 'Max just so I could make fancy household furnitures. There are way cheaper programs for that kind of things... even free ones. I got it because I've seen some brilliant collaborations between 'Max, and other softwares such as Photoshop.

Besides, making a comment like that, without any kind of constructiveness in it, after I have posted some my very first renders, is just stupid.

And anyone and there dad can create a circle with 4 points comming out the top, (in which your getting paid huge money to do)

You act as if you are the best, you are good at model'n ok great, that does not mean you can go around and say all other styles of signatures suck and that the people who make them are noobs.

Im not the only one who thinks this about you, you are a complete jerk to other sig makers.

Furniture? Why would you even think that that is all it's for?? ANYTHING can be created.

Your version of max was downloaded, what difference does it make? None.

KngKyle, don't EVER class me as a "sig maker", and also, circle and 4 points? To what are you referring to? And who did I call a noob? Oh yes, nobody.

Sorry theres more than 4 points.

And about the sig maker, if your making sigs, and your selling sigs, you are a SIG MAKER, so dont say you arnt cause you are weather you like it or not. Now if you dont want to be a sig maker, then leave, i dont know anyone that will miss you.

About you calling someone a noob, you never used the term noob, but you said to firefreak in a big long lecture that basically anyone who does abstract is a noob and has no talent.

Azvy, im very sorry for spamming your thread, i hope you understand. :?

I just put that as an example. And for the record, I didn't download it.

Seriously, stop acting like such a jerk. Just because people other than you has 'Max doesn't mean they've obtained it illegally, and just because there are people using 'Max for other things than modelling teacups doesn't mean they aren't "making use of the program", as you said, you can use it to make just about anything, so why the hell shouldn't I make abstracts if that is what I want? I am using the program! So stop making up these stupid 'Max rules.

"Ownage abstract"? No such thing.

Well, that's just stupid, but it's your point of view. However, we do not care.

Besides, by saying that, you immediately offended 60% of the Media Boarders. Well done. Now, get the hell out of my thread, because I don't want it locked, and I'm honestly getting sick of you.

I basically said nothing of the sort.

When someone requests they want a party hat, then I can make it, where did I say it was the hardest thing to model? I don't think allot of people understand what goes into 3D, its certainly not as easy as canvas + tools.

I am a designer in life, I make sigs on here for a little RS cash. What would you prefer? 8x10 prints and corporate identity? I am not a sig maker, I simply do what I have been requested to do, and stick finished models/render in a blank image big enough to be allowed on the forum.

Abstract in my eyes is basically art that doesnt really fit in into any other catergory, basically stuff that is random, messy and so on. So there you have it, you can agree to disagree. Makes no difference to me, simply because this type of art will continue to be created whether I like it or not, and there will always be someone who thinks it's new/unique/original/awesome/ They learn to accept it in the end, especially when they get bored of it/posters get bored of seeing it over. Yes, I fall into the latter.

I totally agree, but then again, I never said my weapons were original, or anything I have done.

ALLOT of people seem to think they can get some original work out of this type of art.

Yeah, but I don't see anywhere where Azvereth claimed himself an artistic genius. He just posted some 3Dsm renders. You don't have to respond to it with "The entire abstract genre sucks"

There are a lot of good abstracts out there. Things that were actually planned and took a lot of time to complete.

when people say they are doing something original (at least on these forums i'm talking about) i think they are refering to something that "has never been done" but something that is rarly done, posibly just rarly done on these forums. Its not the true meaning of the word, but the fact is nothing in this world is "original" so the meaning of the word is just kind of shifted to something that is rarly seen :P or brought back from a long period of it not being used.

my 2 1/2 cents :P

When do you ever see two abstracts that like 100% the same?.... NEVER, therefore it is unique. Entangle I really don't find any of your works artistic. A majority of people here treat things in an artistic manner which your obviously not. Also try to put some thought into your posts. It is a lot easier to tear peoples artwork down than it is to give them respectful help and advice, so why bother saying the things any idiot can.

Almost forgot- The renders are pretty good the only one I don't like is the shrooms, it just doesn't look right to me. Other than that great job.
