"What forum is a certain person searching atm?" or

Featured Replies

So, you know when you go for example to Rate this! forum, there is this "users browsing this forum:" thing? yes, of course you know it.

I was thinking that when you search a user, you see all of her/his info, like msn, aim, home page, post count etc, shouldn't there also be this "what is she/he browsing at the moment" if the person is online at the moment?

Like you click on Dragontotem, you see all of his info (my info \' ) and what part of forums im searching atm =o

Somewhat like this:

examplemm1.png

And sorry, im not much of an editor, lol :D

And also sorry if this has been suggested before, i did search first 5 pages of suggestions, but there IS a chance that i missed this suggestion, if there was 1.

Why this would be useful?

Well, because if you like to watch a certain person, and what she/he replies, cos you like the way she/he talks (for an example, lol), and you'd like to reply to her/his post too, you wouldn't have to search all over forums thinking "where the hell did post.. ARGH!".

Though, its just an idea, lemme know your thoughts?

And other thought. What if there was an option that allows you to see who has been viewing your profile?

Like, if Player1 looks at my profile, i could next time i log in see that Player1 has looked at my profile.

And it would only show persons who has looked at your profile within last 24 hours?

No? ok :(

Post your thoughts

An interesting idea, I like it ::' You could always use the "Find all posts by _______" link to see what they posted and where, but what you are suggesting would be a nice addition.

[i think] what Dragontotem is trying to say, is that it would be more convenient if it also appeared in the user's profile

Nifty, but could this be done, ok well not like that-.-.

Would bandwidth be an issue(s)?

Would a big(or small too) bug appear if the user was logged in twice at the same time browsing two forums?

Would there a solution to the above?

How useful would this be? would it increase those people trying to flame and harass fellow tip iters, even though u already can see where they are at, they'd be easier to track?

Could this interfere with some privacy boards?

I think those need to be asked before this is considered further.

  • Author

tripsis is right :P

And for questions above:

1. I dont know nothing about bandwich, so i let someone else answer that

2. You could (can you?) make it like that, that if the user is logged in twice at the same time and browsing 2 forums, that the "currently browsing" thing would show what the person first was browsing, AND if she/he closes the one she/he was first searching, then it would change at the profit to the current one? And isn't that the same thing with view whos online online, which already excists?

3. *i really dont get the question*

4. Privacy boards? like what? mods own boards? well, it would appear as "Mod board" or something like that if there is such a thing, or if she/he is looking at private message board, it would appear as "viewing her/his private messages" or something like that :-s

Pixels make me horny.

There is another forum I browse for a TCG I play, and they have something like this.

http://www.xerocreative.com/forums/index.php?showuser=237235

That is a link to a specific Moderator's profile on there. Scroll down to about half way down the screen and you will see "Status: On/Off" and if it's at On, then you see (Active in {forum name here}). Given, this is using Invision Power Board, not whatever Tip.It is using.

So the technology is definately out there, the question is can our forums support it?

f475e02ecc.png

don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?

I had no idea Forum.Tip.It had that...It freaked me out whenever it said what I was doing. :uhh: :ohnoes:

all phpBB has had that since forver (iirc).

@darkblade986: Yes phpBB can support it. Whether or not it's worthwhile is another thing.

Yeah I've been wanting something like this for a while now, though hadn't gotten around to putting it onto a thread on this forum.

Its a good idea in my opinion especially if it were to be in a handy place like their profile. Though since I know of this viewonline.php I'll be using that now.

  • Author

Yes, that viewonline thing will work for now, i think :P

But we could make a profile section to be a real profile with all kind of info there, not just those e-mail things and stuff. though, what would the other stuff be? :-s

Why would you want to see what forum the user was browsing? Couldn't you just press view their posts and see which topic they last replied to?

  • Author

Of course i would, but it's just a thing that i wanted to post here to improve our profile page =o
