Errdoth
I meditate daily, it really does work, yoga is also great, too. (By the way, while I am not Buddhist, Hindu, or Daoist, I do share belief in Karma and meditation.) Last.fm Signature Overlays

warri0r45
You should do it, its so relaxing. The best thing to remember while meditating is to breathe relatively deeply, in a pattern. it makes you less :anxious: and more : .

tripsis
I haven't really tried it. My old history teacher was really into meditation and he had us meditate in his class for 20 minutes, almost every day. I probably didn't have a very good experience of it though. Because most of us just saw it as an opportunity to sleep for 20 minutes during class. But on the occasions that I didn't sleep (and did :)), it was nice. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

dwarfdude3
Meditating is basically clearing your mind. To meditate, you must allow your mind to rest within your body, rather than allowing your thoughts to wander aimlessly. I would highly recomend it, and would also recomend you look into books or other information about zen buddhism and tao, and that kind of stuff. The best way to clear your mind is to concentrate on your breathing. You inhale and you exhale every moment of everyday. So, to focus your thoughts, you can concentrate on this natural occurance to block out all other thoughts. Try to see how long you can go with only thinking 'in breath' as you breathe in, and 'out breath' as you breathe out. It may sound easy, but it is quite challenging. There is a man named something like (and I know I'm spelling this wrong): Tek Nucht Han, who had something to do with Tibet and Buddhism. I don't know that much about him, but I do know he is supposed to know a lot about this kind of stuff and has written some books on it. If anyone finds out the correct spelling, I would really like to look up some of the stuff he has written. Edit: hey 200th post. Oh wait, that is practically nothing.... -.-
knives669
Well, when I get depressed, angry, confused, anxious, or frustrated, I meditate. No. I don't contort myself into weird positions, link my fingers together and hum. :P I just close my eyes, take some deep breaths, and clear all the thoughts from my head. I maintain this for as long as possible. It really does help. Even during hard tests. :D What's wrong with that?  Nothing wrong with that. It's just most of the time, I don't have the time, flexibility, or space to do that. wouldn't take a nap be the better choice?? O:) I don't nap. :P I can't sleep for like 10 or 20 minutes. When I nap, they usually last for hours upon hours.

assassin_696
Thinking about it the closest i've come to proper meditation is at the end of my karate classes where we have a 1 minute meditation session to meditate on the lesson. I can switch off fairly well then, but normally because i'm so tired :P "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
ctp080188
In one of my sport psychology lectures I was taught how to send yourself into deep relaxation to the point where you feel as if you can't move your body any more. It consisted of a mantra and some baroque music which apparently helped slow your heart rate down. When alone I don't play any music to myself, but what happens is I lie down on my back with my arms resting on my stomach. All distractions are turned off, and I just listen to myself breathe. Then to clear all thoughts away, on each exhalation I silently say the number one. After my body starts to feel heavier and I feel more comfortable, I start counting down from 10, still on each exhalation. Then once one is reached, it is repeated again and again until I want to come out of the relaxation. I usually do this to get to sleep lol, as odd as it might sound, so I don't need to come out of it. When I was showed this technique, it was then that the baroque music was played, just to enhance the state created. To then come out of deep relaxation, again listening to breathing and then counting from one to ten on each inhalation. Upon each inhalation, you draw in more air and at a sharper rate, and on ten you "wake up". I probably explained that really badly lol, but yeah I use it almost every night, sends me straight to sleep. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.
Barihawk
I haven't been able to clear everything from my head, but I do meditate through prayer. It's called a Prayer Labyrinth. You close your eyes and pray, then walk the labyrinth. Whether it's God guiding you through the maze, or the fact that meditating has heightened your senses allowing you to follow the floor plan we may never know. It relaxes me, gives me assurance, and gives me a better day. Fun Fact: Most Labyrinths only have a diameter of 15 feet. The paths in them stretch for almost a mile! My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley
unknownmasterofnothing
My psychology teacher helped us with this excercise that is very relaxing. Its supposed to help you relieve tension by yourself like some buddist monks can do. 1. get into a comfortable position 2. close your eyes to turn off visual simulus 3. Listen to the sounds around you, it should be fairly quiet. 4. take deep breaths 5.now concentrate on your chest moving up and down for air. 6. press your right palm down against something. And memorize the tension you feel. now stop, and move your hand in a more comfortable position. 7. press your left palm down against something. And memorize the tension you feel. now stop, and move your hand in a more comfortable position. 8. move your right toes up and hold. Memorize the tension. Put your toes down. 9. move your left toes up and hold. Memorize the tension. Put your toes down. 10. Push your stomach in. Memorize the tension. And then stop it. 11. Now push your torso out, bending your spine. Memorize the tension and then return. 12. Right shoulder up. Then memorize the tension, then put it down. 13. Left shoulder up. Then memorize the tension, then put it down. 14. eyebrows up. Then memorize the tension, then put it back. 15. squint your eyes now. Then memorize the tension, then put it back. 16. open your eyes and get up and stretch your arms out.

ThoseTheBrokes
You may find medidation might not actually reduce your stress levels. Individual differences. My dA account..retired, as of the 1st January 2008.
ctp080188
You may find medidation might not actually reduce your stress levels. Individual differences. Well yes of course, but relaxiation techniques ultimately aim in relaxing your muscles, and one technique for people works whereas on someone else it might not. Of course for some people, nothing has any effect. Rather obvious really. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.
aaron1120
So what exactly are you supposed to think of? If you aren't able to clear your mind, I've heard that repeating a chime or other sound in your head helps out. I have family members that meditate, I don't though. < | Runehead | Learning Java Programming, Please PM Me Tips | Signature by Loaf2000 | >

Bubsa
You should give it a go. You won't be able to manage the whole floating in air thing, but if you concentrate on your breathing it can really help you relax and later think with much more clarity. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
Spicer001
I'm seriously looking into giving meditating a shot. I've heard only good things about it, and that it does wonders to relieving stress and cheering you up, not that I'm really stressed or down all the time, but still. So does or has anyone ever meditated? Do you have any suggestions, or recommend any good books on it? Do you know of any other forms of meditating? I'm going to Google search this as well, but I thought I'd give it a shot and see if I can get any more personal answers. I found it out from Google. I do meditate frequently, it calms you down and relaxes you so much. Just breath in through your nose and out through your mouth and do this until you are hardly breathing when you are really calm,do it in a quiet place, you dont want to do it with music blaring out. I've also foun that it clears all the thoughts in your head
Markup
I have never properly meditated, but just sitting at night when it's sooo quiet works really well. Very relaxing, and help's me in the morning with school etc. Leave some feedback if you do start (I have only read your post so I don't know if you have started yet). ~MAK
Ragen
I've done a fair bit of it in my exploration of dreams. I get to bed/ wake up in the night and let all thoughts go from my mind, really thinking of nothing. Eventually, the thoughts come by themselves and create pictures and senstions in my mind. Essentially, my mind became sort of a pool with bits of stuff floating about in it. Then I fell into the pool and I was dreaming but I was conscious of it :D It's sort of meditating. The website dedicated to stuff like this is LD4All. Clicky I recommend reading the guide first then looking on the forum for more details if your interested.
