"Avast! AV" is the equivalent of a 'wide-open house' in comparison with the very power and ability of "NOD32"... I personally suggest you 'deep-six' Avast and go get NOD32 today. The costs of having and running NOD32 are less than that of any other AV maker out there.

if u can afford to pay for antivirus, use Kaspersky or NOD

if u cant, use AVG

if u can use Avast without having to pay for it (pirated), stick with it

Quick note: NO AntiVirus Program provides as much defense as NOD32 does. There are MANY known flaws in Kaspersky's abilities, and their scan quality and system defense are far less than NOD32's. I should personally know from when my dad and I checked the different AntiVirus Sites and researched because he'd tripped over this info. At the time, we were switching away from Symantec's Norton AntiVirus, and we searched everything, and found NOD32 is the ABSOLUTE best. When we put in NOD32 on another PC where we keep our e-mail, it found 200 things that Norton had missed in just the e-mail store area alone. Further, it has provided excellent protection since then, and destroyed viruses before they reached any of our PC's operating areas.

So if you're using a free or pirated AntiVirus, switch away from it. You're just sitting with a PC connected to the net in much the same manner as "unsafe sex"... (I'm sure you understand what I mean, all of you who would end up reading this.)

Can you offer links to these flaws?

Can you offer links to these flaws?

Would you be upset if I asked you very kindly to please go searching exhaustively on all the antivirus info websites out there? When my dad and I did our search, we were extremely exhaustive and we both had headaches afterwards. :(

To be honest, I am not lying to you about what I am saying regarding how much better NOD32 is ... but do I really have to re-perform that month-long search? There were so many endless reviews and such we tripped over that I can't remember a single percent of the exact site urls we went through, except for the common overall knowledge that we went through every antivirus maker's site out there as well as every possible review we could find out there, and got the overall feeling that NOD32 was outdoing any other by an extreme longshot in both protection and performance.

There is only one thing I can warn about, however: NOD32's default configuration is NOT the best, and if a person clicks on a few switches in NOD32, then they will be "up to specification" and seeing the results I and my dad do.

(p.s.: I know you'd love to think I am a mere "shill" for Eset, but I really am not and would take great offense to anyone thinking that of me. Over the time I have used many AV programs as the home user I am, I have just been utterly stunned at how NOD32 has outdone my best expectations and then some. And trust me, I'm not some "easy chooser". In fact, I am most likely your greatest nightmare when it comes to finding a critic who won't use serious bashing. Why? I'm danged critical with my thoughts, reviews, and opinions.)

Oh, no, not offended at all. In anycase I was merely pointing out that if you so support Nod32, it's useless in forums without some slight credit (unless it's ...er...what's that word-? Meaning: A common fact considered taken for granted)

You have a point though, Nod32 is good...But it's useless for people to have different people supporting different AV without some sourcing. I, personally, can search abouts- but that's not the point of this thread.

NOD and kaspersky are some of the best anti virus but there is no "best anti virus" it all depends on the user. For example NOD is good but it can be a challenge to configure it but kaspersky has very good virus detection(it brags about this on its site and has come out top on a lot of tests) and does not require much system resources. For some people AVG/AVAST is the best for some that are cheap and just want to save some money and are careless on the web. Some may not come with an firewall witch may effect witch one is the best for them too. It also doesn't make sense to say that NOD is the best just because it detected 200 more virus then norton when norton is one of the worse.

Further, it has provided excellent protection since then, and destroyed viruses before they reached any of our PC's operating areas.

If people had common sense and you didn't get infected in the first place, you wouldn't need to be out advocating how great NOD32 is over the others.

Running any of the mentioned AV programs in this thread (Avast, Nod32, Kaspersky, AVG) is a good start. Trying to change their mind for already make a decent choice doesn't help the problem.

It also doesn't make sense to say that NOD is the best just because it detected 200 more virus then norton when norton is one of the worse.

Actually, Norton is supposed to be one of the Top 3, from what info I had at the time... It may have changed a little since. Anywho, those 200 were just the e-mail pile alone. BTW, if you noticed, I also mentioned what it has done AFTER the initial install and scan: It stopped a fully new virus dead in its' tracks.

The part I didn't mention? Within 3 hours of submitting the new virus in a packaged quarantine form to Eset, I had definitions for the new virus downloaded, locked, and loaded by a fully public update. Stunning, eh? That's faster than ANY other AntiVirus maker...

Cruiser, a person can be careful all they like. (Heck, I am a freak when it comes to being careful.) The only reason I got attacked and NOD32 had the chance to prove itself so well was because I tripped over an infected site without knowing it during a fully innocent web search for something. I can't remember what now the search was about, though.
