Respect or Burden?

Recommended Posts

A few months ago, I decided to quit, and bought a Green Partyhat whilst selling everything. Now, I decided to come back, and I love my Green Partyhat, but it burdens me to an extent I cannot muster. Everytime I switch worlds, I must bank it in fear of being hacked. Everytime I skill I cannot wear it fearing random events that may kill me.. Everytime I look at my empty bank it fills me with sadness..

All for the respect of some noob saying 'Pmg plz i boro plzz hi lvb'.

Is it worth it?

For me.. No. :wall: Buying one was possibly the largest mistake I have ever done in my RS career. #-o

If you were in my shoes, would having one be worth it to you?

DISCUSS.

Anyways, was a little vent for my anger, not much of a rant though. I guess no one can relate.

Well, if I were to leave for a year+, I would buy a rare and hope the price goes up. But if I quit for a couple months, I wouldn't even consider it.

That's why I don't have a rare. I personally have more fun putting money towards my skills. I used to have a Santa and it was fun for about two weeks, but I got bored with it fast and sold it. I decided I wanted 99 Firemaking instead. ::'

i suppose that if you were wealthy enough to just have one lying around in you bank, then sure i might buy one, but i would personally rather use all that money for better gear and skills. and if you have enough money to just have a green party hat lying around, theres almost no point to playing anymore. Rares have become an item to reflect market trends and for uber rich players to invest in.

The only way it'd be a blessing instead of a burden would be if it were the turn of '07, and I could have sold it for 99 Smithing. :D

But yeah I agree with you (except for the extreme paranoia in regards to hacking; you have okay security or what?), a rare at this day and age is nothing more than an eyesore. An expensive eyesore that burns holes in one's pocket.

I would have gotten another color!

Otherwise, you should feel free to enjoy it. If you're not enjoying it or using it, then it's not a good buy. It's as if you went shopping for clothes and saw this really nice Armani suede jacket and bought it, but never wore it by fear of staining it or losing it. Why have bought it then?

As suggested, invest your money in something more useful.

Good luck! <3

I think it must vary perosn to person, i personally cant imagine selling up evrything for one item, but i can see why you think its a burden.

Respect wise i think it earns a fair amount but i think high levels in skills are worth more tbh,

Theres a fine line between not listening and not caring,

I like to think I walk this line every day.

Honestly i have never been one to be enticed into the whole "rare" aspect of things, i can think of much better things i could spend all that money on (notably skills) and have no fear of losing so much money in let's say a single unforeseen disconnection or lag. I think they are a burden, but really alot of people like the attention which is why they buy the hats in the first place.

Can see why it would be a burden. Have seen people with Godswords getting pestered on all sides, so a Partyhat would draw far more attention.

I wasn't even sure how long I'd be leaving for.

I guess I learned from my mistake though, and if RuneScape has taught me anything that in it's own aspect is a blessing itself.

It costs a lot, and my friends begging me to lend it isn't too fun either. Although i tell them if they can kill me in Duel arena I'll lend to them. HEH HEH HEH!

Just an image on a screen. Not worth people suffering over it.

You think so? So what is a whip, what are your stats, what is your RS character? An image ont he screen, then why would you value it so highly?

Wasn't in it for the attention, although I can see where you're getting that idea from. :geek: :ugeek:

Just an image on a screen. Not worth people suffering over it.

So, it's just an image on a screen, regardless of the fact that actual humans are behind the characters, actual time spent altering said images, etc...?

An image on a screen is an image on a screen. To claim it to be anything more is blowing things out of proportion. That would be different for say, a masterpiece. But even so, masterpieces are made on real canvases, with brushes, from the hand of a fine artist. Sometimes it is a sculpture, made onto rock, bound to never disappear. But most of all it is something that has never been seen and done before that makes something a masterpiece. And I'm afraid Runescape, or any video games' graphics for that matter, are not special in any way, the graphics get better and better with time because technology allows it to be.

People make the choice to waste countless hours of their life towards getting these pixels, that's their decision, but that doesn't make the pixels any more valuable, it simply underlines the sillyness of some people. Just like millions of people go to McDonalds, that doesn't make McDonalds a good restaurant, it just means that some people are silly. Because a human has touched something, that doesn't make it valuable, what's valuable is the human being itself. And if a silly computer game, that's supposed to make you happy, makes you miserable because of a pixelized item, then by all means smash the computer screen. You will be sad for a couple of minutes, wasting a perfectly fine monitor, you will be frustrated not to be able to play, but it won't be the end of the world and you will get over it, because it was never something important to begin with.

Even after the loss of my whip because my other stuff was ranked as more valuable (And that two page thread that resulted from it in the rants forum), I'd still love a party hat, run around with it all the time! Of course, while wearing nothing else, so I'd keep it on death for sure.

As for getting hacked, well, as long as you watch your computer, run scans regularly, keep your password to yourself, I don't think you'll ever get hacked. Never have been for 4 years and counting now.

Normally I do not get involved in debates because they can be a tad annoying at times, but this one seems like a good one! Personally I would never ever buy a party hat. The rarity of items is not what makes me want them or not want them. Its personally how much use I will get out of them and the price being a factor of course. The only major purchases I have made are barrows armour, a whip, and a dragon axe and I really dont plan on buying much of anything else at the time. Personally I think Party hats and such are burdens. Do you really get any respect out of it? From what I have heard you mostly get lower level players asking to borrow it, or high level players asking if they can buy it. Where is the respect in that? It sounds like it is mostly jealousy and wanting to have it. Does it make player look up to you when you wear it? Does it make them think "oh that noob he is showing off his party hat... thats so lame"? I guess deciding whether its a respect or burden would be in the eye of the beholder.. seeing as there is so much to consider.
