Zierro
To Diesel: We know that Phats, Skillcapes, and the likes don't have any tangible positive effect on your life but they still represent something special. If I spend 100 hours trying to get a Phat, then it just goes to show what you can achieve with willpower and determination. So technically people with rares aren't just showing off the rares, they are showing off their dedication to completing a goal (with an exception to those who got them for free). In other words, if someone can spend 100 hours aiming for a pointless goal with my willpower and determination, it goes to show something about their personality - they're not a quitter. Now, if you want to make something useful out of this - translate that to real life. "If I have the willpower to spend 100 hours clicking for a pointless goal, then imagine what I can accomplish in 100 hours in real life trying to reach an important goal such as saving up a certain amount of money or trying to get good grades. Just think of it as a generic symbol of success. To some people, that's what they view it as. I look up to Phat owners, but I personally prefer Skill Capes. gereed123
Rares are never worth it exept if you want to merchant with them. Never be afraid of losing it. Hackers almost don't exist anymore and randoms are not that bad.
revanlives
The point of a Phat is to show it off, but if showing it off only gets demands from everyone else to let them share in it...no I'd say it's not worth keeping.
Fedorca99
Amitoz, please do not reply to everybody in a separate post. Please put them all in one post. Yes, I do think that buying it was one of your less-wise decisions. Now that you have it and want to get rid of it(you know you want to), you will have to sell it for less than you bought it for. amitoz
Honestly i have never been one to be enticed into the whole "rare" aspect of things, i can think of much better things i could spend all that money on (notably skills) and have no fear of losing so much money in let's say a single unforeseen disconnection or lag. I think they are a burden, but really alot of people like the attention which is why they buy the hats in the first place. Exactly my veiw.. Sell in GE plox.. Come to my Clan chat (I'm there if I'm online) if you wish to borrow a Green H'ween mask, Blue H'ween Mask, Red H'ween Mask, or Santa for a reasonable price. amitoz
Just an image on a screen. Not worth people suffering over it. So, it's just an image on a screen, regardless of the fact that actual humans are behind the characters, actual time spent altering said images, etc...? An image on a screen is an image on a screen. To claim it to be anything more is blowing things out of proportion. That would be different for say, a masterpiece. But even so, masterpieces are made on real canvases, with brushes, from the hand of a fine artist. Sometimes it is a sculpture, made onto rock, bound to never disappear. But most of all it is something that has never been seen and done before that makes something a masterpiece. And I'm afraid Runescape, or any video games' graphics for that matter, are not special in any way, the graphics get better and better with time because technology allows it to be. People make the choice to waste countless hours of their life towards getting these pixels, that's their decision, but that doesn't make the pixels any more valuable, it simply underlines the sillyness of some people. Just like millions of people go to McDonalds, that doesn't make McDonalds a good restaurant, it just means that some people are silly. Because a human has touched something, that doesn't make it valuable, what's valuable is the human being itself. And if a silly computer game, that's supposed to make you happy, makes you miserable because of a pixelized item, then by all means smash the computer screen. You will be sad for a couple of minutes, wasting a perfectly fine monitor, you will be frustrated not to be able to play, but it won't be the end of the world and you will get over it, because it was never something important to begin with. Although I agree with some of your points, if something makes you happy, you give value to it, and it is actually worth something. It is valuable. That being said, depending on one thing for satisfaction may lead to addiction. I agree with that. Lap
I don't get how you would lose them to randoms :| And also hackers can't do ANYTHING to you unless you directly talk to them with MSN or a messenger, where they can get your I.P. you can run around RS all you want and not be hacked if you keep your friends in the game. Also, just turn chat off, so you dont see annoying lvl 3s asking to borrow it. I would love a phat just because it shows dedication to the game. 45,657th to 99 Range 29/09/09 , 41,018th to 99 Mage 13/11/09__________________
Guest
Just an image on a screen. Not worth people suffering over it. Well, although its an image on screen, doesnt make it un-important. Gin_and_Tonic
Don't post a new reply everytime you want to quote somone, just quote them inside one post... OT: Party hats used to be a symbol of either great wealth or veterancy.... Now, with GWD and the millions of other ways to make serious cash, i personally believe they're a burden. You purchased a hat that you probably bought in 5 seconds, but it'll take months to sell it.
DieselX
Just an image on a screen. Not worth people suffering over it. Well, although its an image on screen, doesnt make it un-important. It's like saying "Money is just paper and gold is just rock" And a masterpiece is just paint on a canvas, and a medal of honor is just a silly piece of bronze? I get that alot. Runescape is an online game, it's not and never was anything important. To put it on the same pedestal as a masterpiece is a fallacious premise. You say Runescape are pixels is the same as -> A masterpiece is just paint, a masterpiece is more than just paint thus Runescape is more than just pixels. That's your premise. Thing is, Runescape is nothing comparable to a masterpiece. It is an image on screen, period. You're not killing monsters, you're sitting on a chair. Bit off topic, to come back to the subject at hand: If the pixels become actual burdens, you get rid of them. Who in their right mind would continue to be burdened by it simply because strangers you will never meet, and that don't really care, will be impressed? That's insanity. failbait
I would have gotten another color! Otherwise, you should feel free to enjoy it. If you're not enjoying it or using it, then it's not a good buy. It's as if you went shopping for clothes and saw this really nice Armani suede jacket and bought it, but never wore it by fear of staining it or losing it. Why have bought it then? As suggested, invest your money in something more useful. Good luck! <3 Best reply on this thread imo. Why have something you are paranoid to wear or lose? Sell it and invest in something you will get better use of, item or skill. Or you could just stand around Ge and rent it out all day and night, then you wouldn't have to worry about losing it, maybe even make 100k  Fire Cape - Aug 14, 08. FrostyGrunt
Unless you're so rich you can't comply with the 999M(the game can't comprehend 1B) cash limit and need to invest the extra in an item there is no reason to buy a Party Hat, it's the absolute biggest waste of money in the game. Everyone I know who has bought one has regretted it a week or so later, and selling them back is nearly impossible. :wall: If you buy one you've just made some guy whose been stuck with it for months/year very happy. -Recipient of Lesser Demon Champion Scroll
