360 vs ps3
If your going to suggest I read, then perhaps you should do the same. First, I did the math again. If I had gotten a console instead of my current PC, I'd be up at least $700, probably closer to $900. The laptop it replaced is still a viable machine that could conceivably get me through school as is. It didn't require replacing. And the PC hasn't even gotten to upgrade time yet (minus the $80 or so second hard drive it now has). Second, I brought up the point about what people want, because what gives you the best experience depends entirely on what you want to get out of said experience. You can't get a better experience out of computer if all it does is make you angry when you try to get it to work, where the console is plug and play and you never have to worry about it. This is why apple products are so popular with older people, because they've got usability down to a science like no one else (I am of course referring only to their tablets and phones here, not their computers). Anyone your going to find here probably belongs to the lucky segment of the population that is at lest semi technology literate. Most people are baffled by computers. Even people from the technology generation like myself are baffled by these mystical machines (by that I mean people my age, not me personally). They don't know how they work, and they sure don't know how to fix let along maintain then (which is why no one else will ever be allowed to use my computer). For most of the world, using a computer is a continuous exercise in frustration because they can't make them do what they want, and the computer is probably perpetually broken anyway. These people can never have a fun gaming experience on a PC, and will always prefer the console. And also becuase I edited this in while people we're replying: Oh, and no. People don't react well to 'I'm right your wrong so thbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbt'. We are naturally programmed to defend our stance, and saying things like that forces people onto the defensive. The more you try to hammer something like that into people, the more they are going to shut down and stop listening to you, because we are social creatures that evolved to interact a certain way, and proving we are dominate takes precedence to being right. You can't get any place in an argument if you challenge dominance like that.

360 vs ps3
Keeping in mind that I prefer the PC here... I feel like a huge portion of this would rely on what sort of experience your after. If your into using or creating mods, then you need a computer. Same if you want maximum performance (in which case you need a computer so expensive that you could probably buy all the consoles for the same price). If you want plug and play, or don't ever want to worry about whether your system can run the game, and do it well, then you want a console. They simply come with less baggage. They don't have compatibility issues, they don't play games poorly, and they tend to live very long lives without failure. Computers cost more in the long run, especially with upgrades and I suspect higher part failure rates from greater usage stemming from non gaming uses, they take more time and effort to set up, they have way more issues with being able to actually run programs. It really comes down to what you want to spend, and what sort of experience you want. For me, its easier to get a computer that does it all. I already have one, so why not spend the money and get a nice one that can play all my games. It's worth noting that I play very few games that you would find on a console anyway, because quite frankly I hate most console games. I haven't bought a console since the original xbox, and I doubt I will ever consider it again until I am potentially buying one for my future children. I like the control, and I like having everything in one package, and I have enough know how to deal with all the bull that goes into keeping my computer running well. But if I was trying to save money, I'd but a little browsing computer and a console, and the $400+ left over would pay for the difference in price for the games. Oh, and no.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Everyone with a year or more continuous subscription to date, plus an additional 50,000 are able to access it. All members will be able to access it on the weekends though. So it's not super exclusive no. I mean, most people probably can't access it, but its not like they only let a couple thousand in. And keep in mind that the pitiful participation includes the 50,000 that actually made the conscious choice to sign up, and you might end up with an idea of why Jagex probably isn't going to rush to let more in. If those 50,000 don't really want it, why should they expect anyone else who signed up to want it more once they are actually in there.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
It's actually interesting to me that things like gambling have taken off in the Beta, since I doubt that's what many people had in mind when they started. They arrive, test out the new combat, decide they don't like it, and see if there is anything else they can do to entertain themselves. I can't say I blame people for gambling, since at this point its actually probably way more fun than beta testing is (also, many many players just discovered that play testing content probably isn't as awesome as they might have thought). At the end of the day, actually testing the content is work, and most people don't play games for work, not when there is no obvious reward to doing so. I'm not sure how they plan on fixing it, but they might need to actually strip every non critical item out of the beta (especially money) so that all we have are what the shops provide for free. I can also see them letting more people in, in a piecemeal fashion as the interest wanes from the current group. Of course, the idea of beta testing like this is that it gives them a chance to make changes and see how we react, and each time they do this there will be renewed interest in the beta testing itself, as people want to try out the changes. It also speaks a bit to how much fun the new beta is not. I pictured needing to choose between an awesome new system and the cruddy old one that rewards me for a few months, right up until I got in there and tried it out, and realized I would not be spending nearly as much time there as I thought, because the new system is simply not enjoyable for me beyond the novelty.

BTS #7
As long as this is a chance to be somewhat creative, rather than being color by numbers, I think I'll be pretty happy with this. Well, my first thought after hearing about the dress thing was that people lost their bananas over being able to shoo stray dogs, so this should be fantastic. But if we really do have some creative freedom, and the quest can be completed through different means, then this could be really awesome.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
As long as you still take no for an answer, and are able to recognize no when it is given. That is what I am getting at. If you won't take no, or if you can't fathom that the answer would be no, then there is a problem. Probably would have been a lot better if I had thought up such a concise way to convey my point from the get go.

Today...
Just having a thought about games. In general, I slowly buy more and more of them as I get bored with each one in turn, and want something new, interspaced with a bit of revisiting the old once I haven't played it in a long enough time that its fun again. But today, I think I have gotten to the point where I simply just have way to much stuff, and the options have paralyzed me into doing nothing. There is a stack of games I would like to play, or rather get back into. I have no less than two stories I wouldn't mind trying to hammer out on the keyboard, and two books to read. Just too many choices. Nomrally its a nice thing to have so much choice, becuase at any given time most of them aren't appealing, but yeah. So instead of doing one of the 12 choices I just outlined above (roughly 8 games I would like to play right now), I think I am going to choose option 13 and have a shower so I can just think for a few minutes, and maybe make a choice.

At least half my game library was in the $20 category. That's not very impressive. I guess I'll wait and see how big it is. If it adds another 50% or so to the game, then fine, I'm happy to pay $20 for that. If its some little extension, then no.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Can you clarify your point? Money only ever circulates the game regardless of inflation or deflation. The only ways it can leave the game are through things like dropping it or paying various NPC's. Oh, I was talking about virtual value, much like how in the real world only a small percentage of our money is backed up by cash. Most of it exists only in a computer. If you take say Bandos, of which there are many thousands of sets floating around, and drop the price of each set from say 45m to 20m, then the monetary value of all those bandos items is now less than half of what it used to be. For each thousand sets, 25 billion in gp value was just removed from the economy as a whole. If you look at those items as an investment, this is money people no longer have, since they spent x ammount purchasing the armour, but can only get a less ammount of y back, and in barter trades, the armour commands less value compared to what it used to get you. In effect, money is now gone, though I seem to have thoroughly confused myself on inflation vs deflation. Massive ammounts of money leaving the economy is deflation, since prices are going down. I think that makes more sense now at least... Essentially, people have less money value available to them, even if their assets are still quite liquid, but its okay because everything got cheeper (its nice when the cause corrects the problem).

At this point, anyone speculating on the GE is going to be more concerned with what the panicked masses are going to do than anything grounded in reality, because if there is going to be one thing being ignored in the price changes over the coming months, it's reality. The real trick is anticipating what people will think about things, and trying to guess at Jagex's next move in anticipation of more fluctuations. And the people who don't want to put up with all that hopefully liquidated their holdings on the same day that all this beta stuff got announced (or even sooner when they realized this would be coming this year) and can hope that the value of money doesn't go down to much. Actually, we probably stand to have some inflation as it stands now since the plummeting prices have vaporized billions of gp out of the game, at least until prices go back up.

Microsoft Surface Tablets
I remember reading about this, and they seem interesting to me. They sort of bring tablets into the actually useful spectrum (I have one, but its just a toy. I actually use my phone as its keyboard when doing any amount of typing on it). Also, Kudos to Microsoft for doing something first. This seems to be a continuation of their previous tabletish computer, except this time its functional and hopefully much cheeper.

runescape homepage not loading
I guess the first thing I would do (it probably isn't critical, its just the way I do things) is verify that my computer can connect to their site by pinging it. start>search for 'command prompt'>hit enter. With Command prompt open just type "ping www.runescape.com" and hit enter. That will verify if the connection can be established or not. The next thing I would do is reset my internet connection, and if that doesn't work, I'd reset my wireless router (unplug for 10+ seconds, and don't worry, this wont reset it to factory, just force a full reboot). After that, I'd probably restart my computer

360 vs ps3
I've seen at least 36" computer monitors before I think. 40" would be more than the computer though I think >.> Also, while a TV is certainly not optimal, they can still work just fine in the right applications. For distance viewing, yes, you do need a monitor or you'll never be able to read most text. But when I got my PC last year, I didn't have a monitor to go with it because I'd been using a laptop for 3 years and got rid of the last one. So I took my 32" HDTV, put it on my desk and called it a day. Now, at that range you need to move your head a bit to see from side to side which isn't ideal, but I was close enough that I could read the text in runescape which is horrendous to read on TV's in general because its too thin. And I have to say that GTA IV has never looked as awesome as when it was taking up my entire visual field. You get used to the less crisp picture pretty quickly, and you can normally finagle the color settings to mimic a more monitory look. In my usual setup, my PC is capable of using my monitor or TV (or both) depending on what sort of mood I am in. The TV mostly gets used for movies, but sometimes I carry my keyboard and mouse or joystick to the couch and play some GTA on that sucker (or I put my chair right infront of the tv first).

Funny Pictures!
I've never seen a two wheeled version of that before  That is the most hilariously self defeating product I have ever seen, but at least that one has brakes. Like a treadmill, but better. Exchange the need for electricity for a chance to get hit by cars and wipe-out on curbs today!

Is it free? Or at least cheep? Free would be awesome, but cheep should be acceptable. Kind of hoping they stick with skyrim for a while and keep adding to it so that I don't have to wait for them to make a new game, and then pay for it.

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
As long as you recognize that this is an illusion, and that not every girl you meet is instantly into you, you should do fine. I can see it becoming a problem if you ever loose sight of the fact that this really isn't true though. For the people asking why this is a problem, I would think this hinders your ability to detect how other people really feel about you. I feel like it would be a good idea for you to try and find out what girls are actually into you, if you can (and this can go for anyone really, since just about everyone has trouble reading 'the signs'). Once you know who is and isn't into you, you know who to watch for signs, and you get behavior that maybe you thought meant something from other people that actually doesn't, and you can start to discard it. We all do this naturally to some extent, though knowing who is and isn't into you would make things much easier for your brain, since it sort of has to guess most of the time.

I too feel they might have gone a bit overboard on the specializing. If they want to even up the styles monsters use, then power too them, but ideally people should be able to get through most of the everyday pvm and slaying with any of the 3 styles, rather than need to bring not only the exact style, but the exact sub style (element, melee weapon) that can do damage. I sort of liked being able to use a whip for just about anything, and I would rather see mages and rangers have that kind of freedom rather than taking it away from everyone. I am not looking forward to a future where I can't use the comabt style I put time into and enjoy.

You can get a windows 8 beta online for free. If your computer can handle that (and you don't mind formatting your HD) you can always go with that. Does it have to replace your OS, or can you put it on a blank hard drive. If so, I smell my new VM operating system. If not, I think I can get it some XP. Nice

 This has me a tad bit worried, since Jagex doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to not releasing lag fest content, or fixing it in anything even remotely resembling a timely fashion. I do hope this is fixed long before this goes live for real.

The Evolution of Combat: BETA discussion
Having toruble deciding if I like this or not. If I was facing doing this forever to train my skills, I'd probably be pretty upset, but I can clear the last of the forseeable combat training I will ever need to do before this comes out. I also like social skills. Combat has this if your fighting large hp monsters now, where you can sclick and then chat largely uninterupted. This update will make comabat hugely antisocial, since you now need full attention and what not to the game to keep yourself effective (or even alive). On the other hand, I don't know what I would do to make it better. The old combat was horrifically boring, but this is almost too intense. I think I would like to see even more strategy in the abilities, with a lot more focus on chaining certain abilities together into more effective combos (there are a few 2 ability combos, but I would like to see chains that are 3-5 long). In pvp, this would lead to more strategy and anticipation, since once you dedicate yourself to a combo, you are wasting you potential by switching tactics if you enemy pulls something on you you didn't see coming, but you risk dying if you don't. I guess there would need to be a lot more abilities to work, and I simply don't know what they would be. With the current pool, the meta gaming community will surely be able to provide us with what are essentially fight scripts, where we know exactly what abilities to use, in what order, before we even get into a fight, and maybe another set to try and counter the first one. What we have are just a bunch of damage boosters really. I would like to see a lot more tradeoff between doing useful damage, and doing useful effects, which is currently pretty much the sole domain of stunning. There is a lot of potential here, but what they have now seems to be more chore than anything. Also, since monsters don't use abilities of their own, there is still basically zero strategy for most of the population, because most people only engage in pvm. Looking at this setup now, I would have to conclude that this system was designed for pvp combat, to test strategy, and to look cool. It was not designed with hours of grinding combat in mind, nor was it designed to enhance strategy in the majority of pvm situations. Just another tool like prayer there.

The * key of the num pad is sheathing they said it in the bts like last week and its been said like 8 times already in this thread. Though it does seem impossible to do on laptops that lack a proper num pad. Target wise doesn't seem to be a way to view their data before hand other than maybe monster examine on lunar, the equipment stats screen does display offence stats of ur last couple of enemies though. Thank you, and I did look through the thread before asking ;) must have missed it. @aspeeder, that's even creepier than my avatar

so has anyone figured out the controls for sheething/unsheeting weapons, and how to select a target before you fight someone (if there is a way)?

I don't like the current chatbox setup. If they are going to have it so it works on a focus system, it needs to have a toggle, or a vastly expanded char limit so that I don't have to keep hitting enter to finish talking. The magic interface is a nightmare. I can see where quick navigation isn't a priority though since the idea is you move any spells you need to the ability bar, and your only dealing with the list while out of combat. Your rightously screwed if you try to navigate any of those manues for something you didn't anticipate in a fight though, so maybe the point it to encourage planning. Also, faces. This is what I got greeted with when I logged in: In the still, I just look like someone conked me way to hard in the head with a maul, but in motion, its more of a demented "I'm going to eat your soul" look. It also doesn't help that at least this particular model setup causes my head to move backwards and forwards about a foot in each direction like some sort of spineless pidgeon, which upgrades to some fantastical stretching glitches when I do the home teleport. I'll chalk that one down to not all models doing that (I hope) and so maybe its something they missed. If not, well, I'm having nigtmares tonight either way. I am also not taking my helmet off until this one gets fixed. It's the only thing holding my head on my shoulders.
