So far I have gone for portal and portal 2 as a bundle. I am also looking at the hit man series, though I might just go for the last one. That series has been intriguing me for a while, but I've never bought any of them. So far deadspace 2 is the only game I've seen on sale that I already have, which is nice. I doubt it's the only one (and I never bought it on steam anyway), but it makes me a little sad. That said, I got more than my money's worth out of it, so I'll not be too upset. And KOTR does indeed work on multicores off steam without issue, though that's one of my buyer remorse games. Not really enjoying that one at all. I didn't know how it worked, I thought it was more like Mysteries of the Sith but more epic, and I think that difference has hurt the game in my mind.
  3. Not going to look them up right now, but off the top of my head: Neitiznot - Nay-tiz-not Jatizso - Yah-tiz-so Pollnivneach - Poll-niv-knee-itch Morytania - More-ee-tan-ee-ah Port Phasmatys - Port Phas-matt-ee's Fremennik - Frem-en-ick

I've been using creative mode, but this made me want to take a look at my first world, and the projects that have been left undone. I started out with a dirt bunker, and built it up to include a door and an inner panic room, and a garden protected by a cactus wall to keep out spiders. It also has an arial walkway (with a doored exit) for accessing a nearby mine. When I died and respawned, I was unable to find my original site, and started out with a big dirt tower which ultimately reached the maximum building height, and is now situated partially over a shaft mine that goes down to the bedrock. The third tower is a monolithic bunker, with the bottom half (the bunker) made of obsidian with a stone facade. I cheated a bit to get all the obsidian, gold, and lapis lazuli that went into the construction of the bunker, and it's precious material towers that again reach the maximum height. Inside the bunker, in lieu of a panic room, I built an entire fortress on the top floor. The fortress however, does have a panic room of its own (I like my panic rooms). I want to get back into the game, and now I am torn between working on my survival world again, or progressing with my creative one. I would like to work on my creative super complex, but I would also love to finish my castle island. Once it's done, there should be no monsters able to spawn in it's 1.6 hectares, enclosed by it's massive walls, and surrounded by ocean. And even if they do get in, there is a freaking castle that would probably be large enough to hold a golden eye match sitting on it (though the castle is sorely lacking in interior at the moment).
  5. just tried, it only blocks me from trying another email for an hour Well, that's useful. I honestly can't remember how to get a real recovery forum then sorry :(
  6. My understanding is that clicking on the "forgotten password?" link would take you to the recovery forum. I just took a look, and it looks like all you need to do is enter the wrong email address 6 times. I imagine after that it will take you to the normal recovery forum. I also moved your thread to account help & advice.
  7. The beauty of Microsoft Security Essentials is it's purpose. It's intended to be all you really need in addition to a firewall (which comes with Windows anyway), and it's not intended to be profitable, so the free version is the equivalent of pretty much anyone else's paid version (and apparently a higher quality than many of those). I figure the only reason it doesn't actually come with windows are agreements the PC distributors have in place already, where they get to bundle in a trial version of someone else's program (ie every store bought computer comes with a trial of Norton). Microsoft once you to use it so that your computer doesn't break from infections, which stops you from calling them and complaining about it.

You are the one who put me onto wanting to play it :P I read the wiki history of it and it sounds like it is a very good game! I got this one one it's release day. I've not played it too much yet, partially because last time I played was beta, and it removed my game I had going (knew that would happen though). It's a lot like Galactic Civilizations which was based heavily on the Civ games, but it's both much simpler and more complicated. Less tedious to play for sure, they did a great job of creating a game that doesn't seem to encourage debilitating amounts of micromanagement.

Today I completed a mariene breakdown triatholon  (hope it's the only one of the summer) Events are: Paddling back to shore Walking home Going out in another boat to give it a tow The sea-doo has been having trouble recharging it's battery, and seems to even be losing charge when not in use. Today it went a bit further and was unable to generate enough electricity to keep the engine running. On the bright side, this means we can put one of the better ones in the water over the weekend I think.
  10. The spine doesn't really think, at least nothing complex. The grey matter located in the spine handles many of our reflexes (because it is closer to most of our body than our brian is, and can intercept certain signals and take action before our brain is even aware that something is wrong. If you touch a hot stove or step on a tack, you will have started moving before you are aware of the pain, unless you did it deliberately, in which case the brain can override this process. I never though about placing ourselves in our heads because that's where our major senses are. Makes sense to me. Especially vision, since that is easily our primary sense. I never thought it before, but our other directional sense (hearing, and to a more limited capacity, smell) are placed so that all 3 directional senses are operating from the same perspective, so that we can hear and smell relative to our sense of sight.
  11. I think I used to say it as ar-da-goon or something like that (trying to enunciate the g). After that, I settled on are-den as my favorite pronunciation. I've been aware of the proper pronunciation since they published a bunch of them in one of the post letters, and there is a very complete list of pronunciations on their site, which can be found here.
  12. Kinda bummed about this actually. I have one last 99 I would like to get (fishing), and a couple more of these weekends would have been nice to have along the journey. On the other hand, I can't say I am going to miss dealing with the economy going bonkers for 4 weeks twice a year. What I will say, is the nice thing about mad may style necklaces is the total lack of rush. I still have mine at full charge, sort of hoping I can still use it. If not though, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. So if we are getting something different, I could go for bonuses that work on my own time.
  13. That's a decent example sees. I think that applies better with your point as well. For issues like marriage where there is no money or anything involved, just rights and freedoms, that hits me as a purely moral issue.
  14. Going back to your definition of progressives and conservatives (@ sees), the current law forces x and doesn't allow y. From your definition, a conservative should be fighting to legalize gay marriage to give people more choice; allow them to choose between x and y. I think you should come up with a better definition/understanding, since when applied to pretty much every social issue on the table right now, your definition is actually ass backwards since the conservatives are legislating to limit freedoms, or resisting legislation that would expand freedoms.
  15. No your not automatically doomed, but for many people the pool of potential parterns goes way down once they graduate from the education system, from a combination of both practical availability of people, and reduced free time. The problem tends to get worse as you get older and take on more commitments, and your age itself can become a significantly limiting factor in meeting other people since the older you get, the greater the portion of people your age have already found someone to tie the knot with. It's nice to have another system you can move on to that helps you find all the people left, and can save you time by limiting the pool your looking at to the pool of people who are actually interested in a relationship. It cuts through a lot of the games and saves everyone time and effort.
  16. This was the first thing that popped into my head :P
  17. Never in a million years would I have thought of this  I suppose for some people that could work, though I am having a very hard time believing that the grown ass man with a full time job who cruises the mall for a girlfriend is someone any girl (you want to be with) would go for. Maybe this does work though. For my purposes, teenagers don't count. I am concerned with people who have progressed past the point where post secondary education is a viable option (either because they don't attend anymore or because they are old enough to make going after most of the potentials creepy).
  18. There are a few issues I can think of off the top of my head that would be consideratiosn for my vote, we're I american. The first would be who is less likely to start or join a war. The second is who is least likely to approve the proposed pipeline for Bitumen from Alberta. Quite frankly that anyone would consider approving that with the proposed route is something I find quite terrifying (forgot the name of it though). My third criteria would be progressive values and freedoms. I have no time for limiting the freedoms of other people for religious reasons. The legal system and religion should be kept as far away from each other as possible. I'm sure I've forgotten some others, but those would be major points.
  19. Name another option that even compares to the education system (other than online dating obviously).
  20. I think I addressed this someplace else, but in regards to the opening question, under the old system it was not possible to have more than 10 points. The new system does not limit us in this way. As a side note, be wary of making posts that would shed a high count in a positive light, or it might be decided that we should not allow this thread to continue to survive. As a second note, if people have points that they do not feel they deserve, then they are free to contact an administrator.
  21. You gave an example that supported my argument. You think gay marriage is a good thing, so you want to legislate it. As far as abortion goes, the fundamental conservative argument is protecting the rights of an entire class of human beings that are marginalized, not forcing women into some sort of reproductive slavery. No, under your definition of progressive and conservative, legalizing is actually conservative by allowing people to choose between x and y, and legislating against either would be progressive since the government would be forcing a moral judgement on people. You can only do x, not y. Both progressives and conservatives would limit freedoms in certain areas. A progressive would argue that it's not okay to dump your old oil from your car in the river behind your house. A conservative argues that two men (or women) getting married is wrong. The difference is not that one group is all for legislating everything and the other isn't, the difference is what they want to legislate.
  22. The nice thing about online dating is the availability. School is quite simply the best meeting ground just about anyone will ever be in by virtue of size and duration of proximity. You will not ever be in another situation where there will be so many people that you will be around so much. University would tend to be the pinnacle of this experience since the availability tend to be larger even on small campuses, and it neatly divides people up by interest. Once your out of highshool or university, your options become: your place of employment (terrible idea), bars (which only work if bars attract the kind of people your looking for, and your the kind of person bar people are looking for), and clubs (people of common interest, so this tends to work nicely). You also have your flukes. Online dating fixes this problem of very low availability, and allows you to actually meet people, especially if your life does not have an abundance of free time and disposable income that can be used to get into other venues where you have a shot at meeting people. I wouldn't call it a last effort, just the natural progression for finding people once your done with your education.

For the clothes shopping, the key really is giving a damn. If your interested in the clothes, then your going to enjoy picking them out. If you can combine this with keeping the time spent searching to a reasonable duration, your golden. I also find that as people get older they start to care a bit more about what they wear (and the people who never do are really easy to spot). I think clothes shopping automatically becomes more interesting as you get older, for most people. And I fixed the link on the last page. I guess I need to switch the editor mode from now on when doing links like that, since the forums really want to just turn the text into a link for me, and the last time I wanted that to happen was never. Today I discovered that our fair city actually does have something like a, I guess makeout or lookout point. A little tiny park that leads out to a spectacular view, and is commonly used as a party spot for probably teenagers. The view is spectacular though, and I might pull some from my phone later. Also seems to be a good spot for rock climbing if you've got the equipment. Nice spot though, I think knowledge of its existence is pretty much limited to locals, and friends of locals.
  24. Anyone who wants to access the rs website while playing can alt tab to a different window. No one is helped by adding the damn bar. On top of that, who the hell uses the website for anything while playing besides the grand exchange database (all the information from which can be gained from, you know, going to the grand exchange in game)? I make extensive use of youtube while playing runescape, as well as online connections to radio stations. While I do have a collection of music, I tend towards entire discographies of a few artists, and maintain more diverse playlists on youtube. Or if I want to listen to something a bit different and maybe pick up some new favored songs to add to my youtube lists, I listen to the radio. I also use tip.it to look things up while I play. As a result of my desire to listen to music, I never use the client because it disables all the media control buttons on my keyboard for some reason. Chrome has an excellent full screen which doesn't cause the bar to drop down ever (so it never resizes on you), and if I need more, I can use fullscreen mode.

Just thought I would share this. I found out about the general concept a while ago, but I've never found an article that covers the entire topic so thoroughly and backs itself up so well. Why the Cholestoral-Heart Disease Theory is wrong. It's a good read for anyone interested, especially if you have a deeper understanding of chemistry to fully appreciate it, though the author does an excellent job of keeping it simple. It's also very very long. The very short version is that cholesterol and fat consumption have absolutely nothing to do with your chances of dying form CHD. In other news, I got my second sun burn of the summer going, but it seems to be pretty mild. On the shoulders though, which is going to be fun tonight I'm sure, but with any luck it will be mostly healed by morning. I also went to look at the run again today, and realized something. When going through it, I have to think of it as 3 bodies of water, each on their own tidal cycle. The lake itself isn't tidal. The run passes under two bridges, and they simply restrict flow too much for the water going in and out to meaningfully impact the water level. This is demonstrated visually by the much weaker current passing under the lake side bridge. And because the bridges restrict flow, the run itself is not synced with the ocean it leads too, and I should have connected the dots yesterday. I arrived pretty much right at high tide, yet the current was running into the ocean at pretty much full force. I visited a couple of times today on foot, an hour after the tide started coming in, and again an hour and a half later. On my second visit, water was still running out of the run and into the ocean. Also, on my first morning trip, there was almost no current between the run and lake, so they must have been at pretty much the same level. I'm guessing that the lake water level is probably around half tide, give or take 3 inches, which would mean that the run itself is probably about 3 hours out of sync with the ocean. On my second visit when the tide had come in more (I could visually see that the ocean level was up), the run seemed to be roughly the same and the water running out had drastically slowed down. It probably would have stopped within half an hour, and the current from the lake had picked up considerably, so the run water level had to have dropped. For anyone still with me, the run is sufficiently deep if your in the right area much of the time anyway (I didn't get to see the exposed shallow ground like I was hoping, but I now suspect it is not common and would require a very low tide to get down that far), it's still the ocean tide that counts because it is freaky shallow on the other side, and its shallow for a very long ways. The issue is going to be that high tide shrinks the surf which is made from waves bouncing off the former beach, so I'm glad I got a good look to confirm exactly where I should be. If nothing else, it's something to keep me interested in during the summer. It's an adventure. Oh, and speaking of trying new things, today I found a boat that made some of the most epic wake I have ever seen (I've only seem wake that big maybe twice before in my life). I'd peg the waves at 3.5 ft peak to trough, though it's always a bit hard to tell. Suffice to say they were big, and unfortunately very steep. They were only made when he did a 360, which he was doing because he was towing an inflatable, so I was keeping my distance. But I noticed the waves from a ways off and he had moved on so I raced over to them, and into them, and 20ft away it dawned on me that they were closing in on the height of my handlebars. I had enough time for my 'oh shit' moment, before I hit, and boom! Waterplosion! I've never driven through that much water before, kind of fun, but not the jump I had been hoping for since I drove right through the top 4 inches (still a good jump, I was just expecting something totally and ridiculously awesome). Then I noticed he had dome the same thing further up the cove, and being temporarily crazy, I tried again this time at a bit of an angle. I hit a smaller wave coming out and pretty much jumped up and drove over two of the big one (too close together). Lots of spray again, but this time I got real air :) Even if it was more like driving off a ledge than jumping, that was enough to get this one airborne for a second. So I've had a very fun day.
