  1. People who use "but" incorrectly. For example, "The building was grey but tall." It's such an easy thing to not know but I notice it all the time and it pisses me off so much.

Tim, if at all possible, try to avoid doing that as much as possible. As in, try to stay in a different room, or at least don't lay down in bed until you're nodding off. That way you train yourself to think bed = sleep time, period. Or masturbate. Either works really
  3. Right? At first it's kind of like meh, whatever but then you get some nice attachments, a new gun and you're hooked. Loving support right now, got the MG36. Not as awesome as it was in BBC2 but still. And you never realize how annoying it can be to have a couple enemies using mortars on you, especially when you only have one MCOM of the two left. At least it means when I do it the other team will get annoyed too.

Not always Giordano. I've seen plenty of tip jars/tip cups in fast food places like McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts. But they don't treat you like shit if you don't tip. It's basically a place to put that extra 14 cents change that you don't want to carry around.
  6. Couldn't put it any better than that.
  7. Read her site and most of the actual court decision text. Seems to me that there's a whole lot of semantics going on in the case. Honda lists gas mileages as "up to" meaning it is possible that they could reach the number stated. Plenty of owners of the exact same car as her are happy and are getting up to (in some cases, in some circumstances, over) 50 mpg. In addition, the number it lists is given by the EPA. Nothing stops them from listing that as a possibility because it IS a possibility. There is no law against that. It is up to the consumer to see that they are doing what ALL companies do - legally bending the objective truth a little bit to make their product seem better. Ever watched commercials? With sexy women whom you will get to hang out with when you drink that beer, or the chiseled body you'll get from using that supplement? Yeah, that's kind of what Honda (and all other car companies) are doing with their "up to" language. Another point, the contention they have about the offers to inspect her car before the case was opened - I have a very difficult time thinking that Honda would flat out lie in an official statement about whether they offered to inspect her car before the trial. They gain nothing by not inspecting it before the trial, they actually stand to gain a lot by doing so. My guess is that the woman either misunderstood or bent the facts. Quote straight from the court findings: "...the court is not finding there is clear and convincing evidence that Honda concealed or misrepresented problems with the vehicle generally, or with the software patch, out of oppression, malice, or intentional fraud, as required by the statute." I don't know whether the decision was the right one, but it does seem that the woman took some liberties with the truth and likely flat out lied about many things.

This place is a hellhole and I'll be packing for Canada sometime in my twenties most likely. It's not everywhere you can ride a polar bear to school and not get arrested.
  9. Probably due to existing (but internal) prejudice against minorities. It's almost like people think it's cute that they're being racist. Well that's what I've observed at least, though nobody would ever say that and thus I can't really know if it's true.
  10. Come on Skeptic. I like you and your posting style, but you're being pedantic. There's nothing to be ashamed of or sorry for, but there's no need to deny that you tend to use "big" words and showcase your superior vocabulary (and it is superb).
  11. Slanket. I have one, it's awesome. Better than the Snuggie, it's longer and thicker.
  12. >arguing in youtube comments Well there's your problem
  13. It gets better at the end. Keep reading. Haha, it's not my choice, it's for an english class. American Lit.
  14. The Great Gatsby. Meh so far.
  15. Since about 2000? Women actually make up more of the US workforce than men now. I can't speak to before that.
  16. http://homespunwisdom.wordpress.com/2011/07/17/white-women-are-the-biggest-beneficiaries-of-affirmative-action-in-america/ Plenty of sources for that in the article. Learn something every day. Hey, what the hell? Why is affirmative action benefiting white women so much? Never thought of white women as oppressed or needing help to get up in the workplace...
  17. Yeah, my science teacher does that a lot. Seems like it would be good for fifth graders, but we're sophomores in high school
  18. I agree with you on affirmative action. I support it. And we come here to this forum to talk about all this lofty crap because it's the only place people will talk seriously about it. I don't ever bring this up IRL and I rarely think about it. Just a discussion point. Though if I had the opportunity to talk about it IRL I wouldn't say no.
  19. I guess I just don't agree. You guys seem to be saying that since these things have happened for a long time means we shouldn't discuss them and/or strive to end them. Additionally, I believe white males are probably the least oppressed group anywhere ever. But just because our problems aren't as serious as others' may be, does not mean we don't have a right to discuss them and want to stop them. Hedonistic adaptation, people.
  20. Winrar is free, as is 7zip. The program is just like "hey dude...please buy me, you ran out the demo time..." and then they let you keep using it every time.
  21. Screw that, I wish it were warmer even though it's already unseasonably warm (it was 50 degrees yesterday and it's February in New England)
  22. Range, or anyone who wants to comment - tell me, how do you feel about the television network known as Black Entertainment Television? And then tell me how you would feel about White Entertainment Television. And how do you feel about black pride parades (they happen at least annually in the US)? And white pride parades? These things have nothing to do with past events. They have nothing to do with one group being oppressed and another not being oppressed, as you could claim for all the affirmative action things (black scholarship foundations, black advancement programs, etc.). There is no excuse. It's a racial double standard.
  23. Nobody said all women lie about being raped. Just that they do, and when they do there are often no consequences for them and often there are consequences for the male. >implying women can't punch hard enough to do "much damage at all" Adrenaline? People have lifted cars temporarily during times of massive adrenaline rush. It is more than possible that a woman could seriously injure a man by hitting him hard in the face. The "average build" of the sexes should have little effect. It is the principle that matters. The man didn't go into the store s[racist term]ing to himself saying "mwahahahah i'm gunna overpower that weak little woman because she's a woman and i'm a man". He went into the place to rob it and leave. She got the upper hand and then committed a series of cruel and unusual crimes. Another thing:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/19/chicago-fire-department-h_n_903496.html tl;dr Chicago fire department is being sued because the physical test is apparently biased against women. The plaintiffs say that the test is irrelevant to the job and is just there to keep females out. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather have firefighters be able to actually do their job properly and safely than reduce the standards just so some more women can work in the field.
  24. Please explain. Actually curious.
  25. piss me off. Especially those of women vs. men. Man hits a random woman hard in the face; result, convicted of battery. Woman hits a random man hard in the face; result, nothing or the guy gets laughed at. Or the bias of the judicial system that lets females lie about being raped and often does not punish them even if they are proved to be lying. Or the case of Olga Zajac, a store owner in Russia. One day a man comes into her store and tries to rob her. She is a black belt, she floors him. She then ties him up and keeps him in a back room for 3 days, feeding him nothing but viagra and using him as a sex slave. [spoiler=source]http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2013870/Robber-broke-hair-salon-beaten-black-belt-owner-kept-sex-slave-days--fed-Viagra.html Apparently the story is possibly fake or something, but the real problem is the principle; this woman has a facebook fan page. Can you IMAGINE if the genders were reversed? The guy would have been murdered long ago. And this [spoiler=The View clip - warning, strong language/swears]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrvDhSB7GHk Unbelievable. Un-[bleep]ing-believable. Notice how at one point one of the women is talking about something that might make her cut off a guy's genitals (she's referring to rape) and they can't even SAY THE WORD. None of them will actually say the word rape. And yet half of them are laughing about this guy getting his genitals cut off. Don't get me wrong, I know not all women are like this, but these kinds of things make it really difficult for me to care about women's issues. Thoughts?
