  2. It hasn't really changed. Same beggars, same macroers, same stuff. You ever love it or you don't. If you take a good look at Runescape and say, "I really want to come back," go do it. Otherwise, you're just going to get yourself even angrier at this game.
  3. Yeah, I'd say around 5 hours. Read a book while you do it, and turn the sound up. That way you don't get bored, but you can still cut well.
  4. Why do you need 70 construction? Why not use the crystal saw and teak shelves 2, with gilded teacups? You can do it at 69.
  5. If you're really patient, you can use the gnomes to kill the demon without you even firing a shot. However, that takes a REALLY long time, as the gnomes to 1s...

  7. Experiments are really nice exp. You won't get hurt by them, and they have a LOT of hp. You can find them next to the dead chicken farm next to the Ectofunctus. If you haven't seen them, you need to do Creature of Fenkenstrain to get access to the cave that they're in.

  12. Read the whole seven pages... =P~ I hate beggers, but I have no problem with newbs. Where else would I get my rune essence? I find it sad that when I log into a free world, I get a parade of noob after noob asking me for free stuff. I'm level 87, and don't look like I have anything. Why do I get all the beggers? Then again, as said by the Editor, those who look rich often aren't rich. Maybe that's why? My outfit really isn't very gaudy: black dragonhide, a red team-cape, red boots, and a red wizard hat. I don't wield a whip, I wield a dragon scimitar (at least in free worlds). Why do I get all of the beggers? I worked for my cash, and most definitely worked for my runecrafting skill. I find it sad that people consider me "lucky" when I have 2.3 million xp in the most profitable (and tedious) skill in the game. I used the approach that someone else on this topic suggested: Noob: Phree st00f P|_0>< Astaroth51: Last time I checked, begging was not a Runescape skill. Noob: Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Astaroth51: Skills are rewarded by money. Begging is not. Go do something. The noob often makes one last attempt, finds that you are never going to give him cash, and walks off. I get five seconds of bliss before some other noob latches onto me. By the way... What is OoC? I know they're a clan who gives stuff to noobs, but don't know who they are. That feels good, getting all that stuff off my chest. :thumbsup:

  15. I agree with you guys.. It's not hard, IF you are constantly being exposed to it. For example, if you are taking the course, then you're going to know it. If you don't do it for 10 years, then you are probably going to forget it. I'm saddened by our teachers in the US. Even with the higher levels of math in high school, you don't even have to have a degree beyond a bachelors', from my understanding of the school's requirements. (plus, you could graduate with a D- average and still be able to teach) It's kind of sad. So now we have a bunch of teachers with tenure who aren't qualified for the job, and they can't be fired because the teachers' union is so powerful that the schools kneel before them, begging that a strike won't happen. As a result, stuff like "New Math" comes out. :( What I think is interesting is that the US has a very good post-secondary school system, (all the great colleges here, like Harvard and Stanford and such) but the only Americans who can get into it are the people who study out of school because our high schools are so bad. :( If you go into a private school, however, things are very different, as all the incompetent teachers are fired very, very quickly. :thumbsup: By the way, nice visualization of the cone proof, Oy_The_Great. It's clear, concise, and to the point. Why is everyone putting "proved" in quotations? Did I make a grammatical error? Did I spell it wrong? :-s
  16. Editing original post in the "aftermath" part. I'd have to say that no, it doesn't equal one. It comes infinitely close to one, but it never reaches it. My dad disagreed, saying that 1 was its limit, and it would reach it, as it goes on infinitely, since the sum of (9/10)+9/10^2+9/10^3.... 9/10^n)=1 as n goes to infinity. It's a debatable topic, and it can go either way, depending on what you're using it for. It's like the old Xeno's paradox. 1/2 +1/4 +1/8 and so on.. If that goes on forever, does that equal 1? The choice is up to you, depending on what you want to use it for. Fun. I'm guessing the class got a few chuckles out of that. :) The teachers who I advocate using this on are more of the teachers who don't care about helping you. I enjoyed a couple of math teachers, and felt like stabbing some other ones. The ones that were decent math teachers wouldn't get slammed by the question. They'd know that the question was hard, and go into a 2 minute lecture on how some of the simplest formulas are intertwined with some of the highest lvls of mathematics. That way, no one is the worse off. Right? Ick. Not good. Reminds me of an old lawyer's proverb. "If you have to law on your side, pound the law. If you have the facts, but not the law on your side, pound the facts. If you have neither the law nor the facts on your side, pound the table." What's she going to justify the 15 points with? I didn't think that conduct in class could make the teacher do that. Oh well, maybe your teachers are given that kind of power. :( A teacher that is teaching only Algebra 1/2 or geo isn't using calculus very often (unless he picks up an actuarial magazine and tries the math puzzles) Also, I got a contradiction here, one in which I think you're wrong. Death By Pod said that you need vector calculus to prove it, (so that's what it's called?) which is far more than having a decent diploma. The amount of teachers that have a masters or greater in schools has greatly dropped, making the percentage of teacehrs who are going to get slammed by this question far greater. Even my geometry teacher (who had a masters) couldn't prove the cone's volume. Either the question is hard, or there are a LOT of teachers who don't know calculus. Plus, it takes a certain level of proficiency to say "that's a calc-level question, and I should classify it as such" right off the bat. A "lesser-grade" teacher wouldn't know that necessarily, embarassing himself in the process. And if he was able to do it, what of it? He will just say that it's a calc level question and move on. Nothing wrong with that, right? Can you direct me to that proof? I'm intrigued.

  18. First of all, America isn't the ONLY country to use it... We're just the only rich country who uses it. The other countries are Mynamar (near India, Nepal, and Bangladesh in South Asia) and Liberia (a country on the coast of West Africa) Neither are very well-off. They're both dirt-poor. We're among great company, huh? However, being incomprehensible to Europeans aside (at least from all the whining I see on the board, it seems to be) the Imperial system has its merits. Centimeters are too small, and meters are too large. And no sane person uses the other measurement systems. Decimeter, anyone? I'd like to see you spread out your fingers and measure me a decimeter. I can certainly do it with an inch and a foot, but not with a decimeter. No one uses it. I like being 5 foot 8 inches. 1.8{something} meters makes me feel short. As for the fahrenheit scale, 0 was a solution of ammonium chloride, water, and ice. 100 was his body temperature. How hard is it to remember two numbers? 212, and 32. Wow. Isn't that hard? Granted, it's harder than 0 and 100, but it's kinda hard to break the habit of our Fahrenheit scale. Every time I hear "it's 40 degrees celsius" outside, I reflexively think where my coat is. It's kinda hard to break the "40 is cold, 70 is warm" thing. As for the conversion thing, pretty much all of the US containers have metric measurements on em. The cars have "kilometers per hour" on it. What more do you want? As for the date, who cares? Wow. We have a different format. Oh, no! I'm melting! I can't covert a simple number switch that can be comprehended through context! You show that YOU'RE ignorant by thinking that Americans will listen to Europe about their system. I took the time to learn your system, as it's required in international commerce and science. Why can't our nation use our gallons and miles at home? Besides crashing multi-million dollar Mars probes, how has the Imperial System hurt anyone? If we're so ignorant, how come so many people from around the world come to our colleges? If we're so ignorant, why do we have so many successful mega-businesses? Basically, we don't swtch not because we're too lazy, but because we're just used to the way we were brought up. It's not like the system is dysfunctional. I can measure kilogram with 2.2 pounds. Converting is okay. I really don't care. What I DO care about, however, are people who tell me that I should ditch a system that I've grown up with because they say so. On whose authority? I'll use the metric system when I have to, just like you'll use the Imperial system when you have to. If you think that we're stupid because we refuse to change, then you're the naive and ignorant one. People like stability. Change isn't stability. Therefore, we don't like change. Finally, most of Europe switched to the Euro because the Euro is more stable than their "homegrown" currency. Lira, anyone? "I'm gonna go buy a box of cerial, mom!"Okay, honey! "Take the 15000 lira I gave you yesterday!" Notice that the only country with an actually valued currency (England) DIDN'T switch. People will only change if it helps them. Changing to metric will irritate and confuse the idiots who don't know the system. Those idiots have votes. Therefore, NOTHING will happen, and you're just being attention-grabbing and irritating if you whine about it. What's the point of whining if you aren't going to get anything done?
  19. Okay, I'm editing my original post, as you guys have several damn good points. Assuming that you meant being a smart-alec and smug, (smeg?) you have a point. I am going to scratch the part where the asker says "you mean you don't know?" This makes the asker look a lot more modest. The teacher won't do that, because you're just asking an "innocent" question. He wouldn't think that you knew how to do integral calculus, would he? He'd only do that if you acted like a smart-alec about it (i.e. acting smug and high and mighty and like you know how to prove it.) Correction. People enjoy seeing teachers suffer. They endure disapproval about how slow they're going, how bad their test scores are, etc. It's a "score one for the good guys" thing. People don't like smart-alecs who make fun of THEM. As for your second point, ask it when the teacher is going over the formulas. Then, it's relevant. First of all, "widely" means that he doesn't know how the hell to prove it. Second, you can "widely" explain a proof in a minute, which any teacher will take to show that he's competent. Taking an hour to explain even these proofs is a sign that the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He is one of the following: 1: Someone who is dedicated to his job, i.e. knows what he's doing. You should have done your research beforehand and found him out, thereby avoiding him. 2: A bluffer. Decline his invitation in class, and then call him out on it after class. You get some time off your next class, and get to tell your friends about the math teacher who couldn't answer an "easy" question.   21. It works when the teacher hasn't done calculus in a while, which usually happens when the teacher doesn't teach calc. Also... Have you ever tried to prove these formulas? The cone is easy, (just draw the integral with infinitely small horizontal cross-sections with r going to zero as h goes to 1) but the surface area of a sphere is pretty darn hard. The hardest problem i've seen is finding the surface area of an ellipsoid.... Messy, messy math.

This was something I suggested to my little brother, as he was just learning his Euclidian solids. :!: This method works best in middle/early high school, on a teacher that does NOT teach calculus. Remember those formulas for solids? :arrow: A cone :arrow: A pyramid :arrow: The surface area of a sphere :arrow: volume of a sphere All you have to do is raise your hand and ask them how to prove it. It sounds easy, as all the formulas are relatively simple. The hardest one is 4/3pi*r^3, right? So the class will think that the teacher should know the answer, as he walks you through every other proof you come across, giving inspiration to those who don't get it. Watch him suffer, sweat, and mutter something about getting back to you some other time. Basically, he just told the class that he doesn't know what he's talking about. In reality, these solids all are difficult to prove. They all take some knowledge of calculus, something a geometry teacher probably isn't very well-versed in, as he doesn't use it every day. In addition, even if he DOES know calculus, he probably won't be able to answer it on the fly. :!: Do your research before you ask the question. Does the teacher teach any other classes more advanced than your geometry class or algebra 1 or 2? Ask your friends. Ask around. Look at the teacher when he lectures. Is he an eloquent speaker, someone who is probably more brilliant than the material he's teaching? Or does he teach from the book, lecturing badly? (if at all) The latter is a sign that he doesn't know his OWN material, let alone calculus. Does he frequently go into much more advanced subjects and suddenly realize no one understands? Does he have a masters or a doctorate? If the answer to these questions is "yes," avoid asking. You will either be rebuked without the fun of embarassing your teacher, or he'll just draw up the integral on the board. Boredom for all, but a great time-waster. You'll probably garner the hate of your classmates, though. Be careful. Cheers. 8-) Pm me (on runescape, I have no idea how pms work on tip.it) if you have any math puzzles to share.
