If you have a cannon Black Demons are the way to go. Melee them while you're supported by your cannon. The tasks still take a long while, but you'll get loads of xp. Something like this:

Why would you bother spending months on improving the stats of a Runescape account, if you can make a lot more by selling the currency of another game, like WoW? As far as I know RW trading is as much a problem in other games as it was in RS. There has been a very good impression of this on Dutch television once, which is also available on YouTube(in Dutch):
