Ex-Professional Gamer's view of the "Scrub"
I suppose people who play poker professionally should also be 'removed'? Card games were made for entertainment, after all.

Ex-Professional Gamer's view of the "Scrub"
Well of course it does, you seem to imply this is silly. Baring in mind the article is talking about competing as a Progamer in Street Fighter, why would you enter a competition where you didn't want to be the best there? The article doesn't translate well into RuneScape. Because: For somebody to be scrubbing, a game must have a metagame to speak of. Otherwise, the scrubbing isn't scrubbing, it's just whining.RuneScape has no metagame (broadly speaking, some exception in proper PKing). If you think scrubbing is when somebody is adamant on finishing a 5:5 small with full Fractite, then you clearly haven't understand the concept at all. It's completely different.

Ex-Professional Gamer's view of the "Scrub"
Although professional gaming does undoubtedly exist, I wouldn't call it a career. Much like darts. There's some 50,000 people who play darts 'professionally' in the UK and compete for prize money but the vast majority (ie, all except the very best) of them are dependent on second jobs or sponsorship deals. Also, I don't understand why people are expanding the term 'scrub' to the whole efficiency debate. 'Scrubbing' only applies when people are in direct competition to each other and one person does something someone else perceives as giving them an unfair advantage despite it being an integral part of the game. It has nothing to do with someone making armour in dungeoneering - that's just being naive. But hey, this board loves nothing more than a good efficiency debate, right?

He's competed at the highest level, won tournaments, and almost definitely learned how to counter the supposedly 'cheap' unplayable tactics the scrubs are whining about, or else learned to use them himself better than everyone else. You haven't - that's why you're losing. Simple.

Yet you don't find mages politely asking for meleers to only come into the wilderness with a DDS instead of claws, do you? This would be a scrub mentality; asking for something else to remove something from its metagame because you know it's going to beat you. Like somebody asking 999fishy not to use Steel Titans because apparently being a summoning pure is 'cheap'. If you don't like the way Jagex have built the game, don't play it.

That things inside games are there because they're designed to be there, and you shouldn't place artificial 'bans' on certain things because it suits some people but not others, as this enters a [bleep]-for-tat which eventually ends with there being nothing of substance left in the game.

So just to clarify this, if skillers should 'suck it up' if they get killed in the Wildy by PKers, so should those who lose their rapiers to 1-item D scimmers, right?

PKers aren't risking anything in attacking unarmed skillers, some still do it. Is that therefore also wrong?

I'm saying that skillers whining about PKers killing them when they've chosen to go into the Wilderness is similar to (some) PKers whining about losing their rapiers in the Wilderness when they've also chosen to take them there. Yet when the former says that, it's usually met on this thread with, "Go play an easier game, noob". Can't have your cake and eat it. If you want me to elabourate further, you can ask without trying to patronise me in the process, by the way.

Agreed, it's just the irony wasn't lost on me. "I'm a skiller who doesn't want to be PKed" --> "Don't enter the Wildy then". --> "OMG stupid PKers" "I'm a PKer who doesn't want to lose my rapier." --> "Don't PK with a rapier then." --> "OMG lucky D Scim 1-item noobs"

Weeelll then ... don't pk with rapier o.O Bit weird for a PKer to be saying that, given their defence along this whole thread has been, "Don't enter the Wilderness if you don't want to get PKed".

Scroll of Life and Best Herbs for Me to Farm
If you've got a Scroll of Life, why would you want to be receiving toadflax seeds from a patch instead of snapdragons or, if you have time to make Juju Farming pots, torstol seeds? I mean, if you've got the Arm's Patch, there's literally no good reason for not putting snapdragon in there instead of toadflax except the price of snapdragon herbs crashing. They all have the same death rates, there's no 'more or less' risky herb. Based on your situation, I'd put snapdragons in every patch. With current prices, it gives 40K more GP per herb run than toadflax using a SoL.

You're not comparing murder to PKing while still using opinions to medicalise the feeling of being cheated, are you? Oh lord... Thank [bleep] you were nowhere near the DSM-IV when it was published.

You clearly know nothing about biology or psychology, so please stop trying to espouse as fact what is clearly personal opinion.

What will make you quit RS
RuneScape is a grindfest, far more so than any other RPG I've ever played; as soon as it feels like goal-orientated work rather than something I do for fun is the moment I quit for a while. Sometimes you need to stand back to take perspective and come back a couple of months later refreshed and motivated.

Do we need a new toolkit?
Half true. Nothing on the Tip.It main site explains whether Plank Make is better than String+Hunter Kit, at least it didn't when I was Crew. But I've never used a toolkit (not a proper one anyway) so I wouldn't know if a toolkit would be any better at collating or presenting this information. Honestly though, I don't see what's wrong with just asking people. Nobody knows everything, we all have to ask at some point.

Behind the Scenes - January
This week's weather forecast for the United Kingdom as provided by the Met Office: http://www.metoffice...st_weather.html Snow likely to fall in northern EnglandBoth myself and Rach live in the north of England. I don't know about Bolton/Manchester but it's not snowing here anyway, at least not yet.Jagex are based in Cambridge, East Anglia, in the south-east of England. No mention of snow there. Regional forecast confirms no major snow showers until Friday at earliest. Sore hangovers and our government's incompetence at dealing with swine flu are more likely to delay this update.

How will the players that joined RS after 2008 react to the return of wildy/free trade?
But that's what I'm saying doesn't make sense. You're saying that Person A doing immoral action 1 is offset by Person B doing immoral action 2, therefore both actions are relatively moral. Yet if Person A bots and Person B keylogs without them ever interacting with each other, both their actions are immoral again. Keylogging is presented as both moral and immoral; this is clearly nonsense. The conclusion is that A and B are not relatable, therefore him botting has no impact on his right to not be keylogged. Hence, someone pickpocketing me in a park doesn't address me shooting them dead in return. PPing is Crime 1, murder is Crime 2, but Crime 1 =/= Crime 2.

How will the players that joined RS after 2008 react to the return of wildy/free trade?
What horrific line of thought brought to arrive at this conclusion? Most of not all keyloggers are installed after you try a bot or from sites you shouldn't be going into anyways. So: Person A is botting, person B is keylogging, so that's OK. Red herring argument, but a half-decent one and not one I was expecting. I was presuming it was the classic, 'If you're stupid, you deserve to be targetted by criminals and you should cry more when that happens' argument.

I didn't say keep it to ten. Unless you're admitting some PKers made it their business to just be a nuisance (something which so far, people have denied on this thread), what's wrong with making PKers only face other PKers? I could easily levy the accusation against you because you and Jagex collectively are forcing me to accept PKers and the Wildy whether I like it or not. Well of course you'd say that... you've done nothing but shout down anyone who dares to argue against PKing on this thread. I've seen enough of it, and I've been watching reactions on other MMORPG fansites (including disillusioned WoW players) to this news to see that the people returning to RuneScape because of this update are people I would never want to spend any time with, and frankly, were only interested in making other people "butt hurt". I'm not saying all PKers are like that, but surely you're not denying those types will return to the game? People make generalisations, they're not automatically bad assumptions, so deal with it. You have your preconceptions about PKers, I have mine. It doesn't change my opinion, or the other 100+ that have so far said 'No' on this thread. Go back over my post. I never once used the word "all" to describe PKers. Yet I'm being accused of the generalisations? Give me a break...

Stopped reading at this. Who said anyone did clues for efficiency? I know full well sticking to the task would be better, I choose not to.
