3rd April 2009 - Forums for High level F2P'ers!
compfreak847 replied to Wingless's topic in General Discussion
It'll require extra bandwidth costs, cost money for mods to override forum mods, waste more server storage space, and provide that many more hassle for Jagex to deal with relating to hosting. Increasing maintenance costs means taking money away from members that would otherwise be used for updates, with no advantage - no ones going to become PTP because they can now access forums as a FTP player. -

Good, my point is effectively proven. 7% of the revenue (minus what the main site earns for both FTP and PTP), vs. 42% of the bandwith\cpu power and 12,000% of the storage space. Thanks for verifying it, though. -

Is it really necessary to post that on every thread where someone coinshares? Some of us don't GWD enough to have the LS drops even themselves out, and it's worth it to lose ~1m in the price difference. -

I'll be eaglery awaiting your response. Oh, and don't forget you'll have to get samples from several different time zones. For example, countries with lower average incomes located in certain regions could cause FTP numbers to rise and PTP numbers to fall for specific time zones, and so forth and so on with richer regions. It'll be interesting to see if my theory is correlated. Start with samples every 4 hours, it should be enough to indicate a pattern :P -
High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?

ILU, Zarfot. Your a younger and less lazy version of me. I might have some serious debate competition if you start posting more often :-# -

Or just report them to Jagex like your supposed to. Also, your sig's oversized :P I reported it, a moderator will give you details on the sizes required when he removes it. -

Really, I missed the exact counting. Convenient how all those numbers fell precisely on even 100s, is it not  Not that it would matter, grabbing lower and upper limits means nothing, especially when the data set size varies. I'm afraid that Jagex's active player numbers are slightly more revealing then your completely made up 'data'. -

It is not necessarily a vision of perfection just a misplaced dream that will probably never be fully realized. Nothing I can really do about it except planting ideas and spreading the word. Remember pass on the good vibe, I sometimes try to bring back the good community by purposely giving out 1k or 2k to the new players. I do what I must, mainly because I have the sense to make more money, heck I sometimes even handout full suit of armor, had a 99 set of bronze armor once. confused me however because, a lvl 56 took a lot of it and I was oh so very puzzled. You succeeded in confusing me with the last two sentences, so I'll just check to make sure... you ARE being sarcastic, right? -
Sorry, but that weapon already exists. It's commonly known as a crossbow. There's only room for one at the top...

I didn't get the sarcasm until the last few sentences  Posting this so we don't have a small army of angry new players swarming to disrupt your vision of perfection. -

Because it proved that the word your whole argument hinged on wasn't what you thought it was, and irrefutably proved my argument. No, just your made up definition for the words used. Actually, that's not even remotely related to what I did. In my argument, you said what I meant was different then what it was because the word couldn't be used that way - I proved it could, and won my argument with the benefit of having known what I meant beforehand. Now, I'm arguing against your interpretation of a word that you DON'T know the meaning behind, and the correct definition proves you wrong. That's odd, as mentioned in the past dozen pages or so wikipedia agrees completely with me. Perhaps there's a new edit I missed? It would be nice if you could point it out. Here we go again, pretending I said what I didn't. Now, as I said before, children cant act mature, but they can't be mature. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/act/ False show; pretense; feint: The politician's pious remarks were all an act. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/be/ To take place; happen; occur: -

In this case it does, namely because it refuted your point. Yep. "Your" definition was wrong, and that's where your misunderstanding stemmed from - I showed you the correct definition, and that cleared up the issue. Do either of those three words have to do with maturity? I didn't think so. Not all definitions apply to every usage of the word  Yep, that's exactly what I said. Do you have a point, or do you just like repeating my statements over and over? -

Ah yes, you are indeed correct. How dare I use the dictionary definition of the exact word we're arguing about to prove my point! I don't recall ever saying otherwise. Great. I agree with you. Problem solved! -
Your completely missing the point of passive charm gathering. All good training methods will give charms; right now I'm camping at demons for profit and melee XP, and as a side effect churning out thousands of crimsons. Charms are fairly easy to collect, and the time and cost are the balancing agent for one of the most powerful skills in Runescape, which brings me to my second point: You don't have the slightest clue how powerful it is. Your summoning level isn't even ranked. It's like complaining about the weakness of prayer at level 13. Summoning is invaluable in combat, triples trip length at bosses, boosts drops, productivity, XP, heals, and generally makes your life more convenient. Give it a test run. Train it halfway to level 92, then try it out and see how it is at 50% potential. I've made over 800m with summoning, don't try to tell me it's not useful.

Nope, but you earn the right to ask. The ads won't cover it, they don't for ANYTHING FTP. And why shouldn't I assume that? Less money overall = Less Money into R&D = Fewer Updates. I posted my opinion, and argued with those who disagreed - the EXACT definition of discussing. Believe it or not, there's a bit of an overlap  Hard drive space isn't free, and files must be carefully backed up and maintained. That said, I doubt storage is anything compared to bandwidth and processing power. But you get my point - that 7% of revenue from ads isn't covering over half the operating costs, and FTP is losing money. On average, less then PTPers, and since only PTP suggestions matter, they're going to get higher priority. Oh, so now you think FTP is more mature then PTP? This should be an interesting debate  -

I don't recall freaking out anywhere. And if you don't pay, you don't decide what you get. Because it costs money for moderators and server resources to host forums, it doesn't just magically appear. An influx of FTPers, with lower age and maturity then the current set of PTPers will just mean more crap Jagex has to sort through to get to the real posts. Assumption based on the ranting going on about the 'high requirements' and just where the bar will be set. He's a company, not a charity. Yeah, he'll say whatever makes players think better of him, but actions speak louder then words. Because the title of this forum is 'general discussion'. Discussion: To consider or examine by argument, comment, etc. (Source: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/discuss). As long as people continue to disagree with me, I'll disagree with them and back up my post. Be sure to let me know when the name changes to "agree with the OP or shut up" forum  -

I'm more of a lurker. I read a lot of threads, but I generally don't post (it would get lost in the flood of 'stuipd' posts anyway). -
Edited in by Trottle: Do yourself a favor and read my posts. I've said literally dozens of times that though the XP sucks, I love the skill. Reading failure =D>

But there is conclusive proof that slayer tasks do not affect drops, you could have gotten that chain just as easily off task ;)

compfreak847 replied to Wingless's topic in General Discussion
No, you still didn't. I said it in a positive way to FTP too - the ONLY positive part of FTP :? It was completely conclusive - FTP is nothing but a drag on Jagex, with operating costs far outstripping revenue, paid for out of member pockets. The ONLY reason for an update is to reel in more members, and any update that does not is simply depriving members of paid-for updates. Exactly what I said in my first post, with the proof to back it up. Aww, we had a good argument going :( That's what I said - the only reason they can do this is so that they can find out what high levels enjoy, then take it away from them and release a better PTP version of it. With comments like the '750,000 high level players', I don't have much hope on that front. -

We've all been through starting FTP, and Jagex could care less about what high level FTP enjoys and what they don't - if anything, they'll take that and develop a members only version to convince more people to upgrade. Didn't realize that, sorry :P It most certainly can. Drop the average age and the average maturity drops along with it.
