  1. I am going through a very hard time right now myself. I have a chemical inbalance in the brain that is causing my depression and the Doctor wont even give me the medication to treat it. On top of that, there have been rumours about me which are just destroying me and peoples oppinion of me. My life seems to be falling apart. We all have our greatly desperate time of need, and that is when we need him most. If you ask him for an answer and you have faith you will recieve one, then you will get it. Never lose faith my friend, never lose hope. You must still be in school... Why do you care about what people think of you? Trust me, it doesn't matter. If you invest energy into caring, it'll take away from your education. It's not worth it. Once you're done with school, you look back on stuff like that and think "Wow...That was totally lame." so don't even bother with it. Tell them to shut their mouths if they have a problem. Not everybody has the self-confidence to tell bullies to shut up. It's probably part of his situation as well. If he could face them, he'd probably never be bullied in the first place. It's not that simple. It's not just people in school who care about appearances. Some, even many, adults do too. Please don't generalise.
  2. Try to isolate which screw is the problem. Don't take them all out. Take them out one by one. If it still doesn't turn on, put them back in, then move on to the next one. I bet that screw is making contact between 2 things that shouldn't be (in contact).
  3. That's how it is on a DVD. VOBs and IFOs. Did you try using it in a regular DVD player ? If it doesn't work, the problem lies somewhere else. MPG will not work in a DVD player (there are exceptions, but that would not be DVD Video format). That's for computers.
  4. Thanks. A few people on this board would disagree with you on that last statement lol. I'll be honest enough to admit that I'm opinionated too. But I try to back myself up. (I think) You are athiest/agnostic, if I remember correctly? Or is that not right? Well most of the posts by people opposing that there is a God, I thought that most of those people were complete morons. You are one of the only one of those people who's posts I have respected. You have been making some very good posts.. That is a good point about using the word Christian in this topic, but I think most people who believe in a God are Christians.. There aren't a WHOLE lot of other religions that believe in another god that really post here. Well that I know of anyways. I might be completely wrong, and probably am.. I am agnostic, not atheist. But it's hard to convey. All I can tell an atheist is that he can't be sure. It's a little hard to argue their other reasons, aside from saying "what if there was a God ?" which doesn't really explain anything as far as they're concerned. On the other hand, it's easier to argue reasons with believers since there are a lot more "non-believing" alternatives. The reason for that being that atheists will tend to rely on proven facts as far as science will allow them to go. Which is hard to argue against. Whereas arguing against "God did it" is relatively easy if you stay out of the meaning of God's existence on people. Well all this to say that I probably come off as atheist rather than agnostic, and these are the reasons. Yeah there are probably more Christians than any other religion on this particular board. And thanks for the compliments. The topic is not about me though ;)

  6. Thanks. Checked them out very briefly. Second link is saying it depends on what material it goes through and has to do with refraction (makes sense), but that in open space, it doesn't change (so it wouldn't affect the subject at hand in this thread). Third link is just a discussion on the implications of the speed of light slowing down. That's based on weird readings from a quasar. And I believe this is what the first link talks about as well. Your second link is geared at how to slow light down, not at whether it's slowing down or not. So umm... reading the first and third link... err it's way over my head. I did go as far as studying some of Einstein's theories when I was studying, but that was a while ago and it's not exactly something I use every day, lol. Anyway, sorry for dragging this off-topic. To bring it back on-topic, the scientific explanation right now is that the speed of light is a constant, so it is valid to use it to determine how old a star is. Of course, science can be and has been wrong, and new theories emerge, as shown above, so we'll see. We have to go by what we have at the moment. But as Astralinre said above, it proves nothing to a believer anyway (I refuse to use the word Chrisitian in this thread. We're talking about a God, not just the Christian one. There are other religions out there).
  7. :?: Care to elaborate ? That's new to me...
  8. Yes, depending on your Automatic Updates settings in Windows XP Service Pack 2, it will update itself when you shut it down.
  9. For those of you who use the Microsoft Java VM to run RuneScape, run Windows Update ASAP. There's a critical update out today (critical is how Microsoft has ranked this update). More info can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/securi ... 5-037.mspx It shows up through Windows Update, so that's all you have to do. If you use the Sun Java VM, hey... might as well check if it's been updated. ;) If you don't know what you're using, then run Windows Update anyway. It can't hurt. There's another critical update out today too, though nothing to do with Java. NOTE: The JView profiler referred to in that link comes installed with the MS Java VM, as explained if you read the whole thing.
  10. Just gonna address this because the rest has already been debated. Non-believers don't look forward to anything after life. They look forward to a good life, knowing it will end someday and making the most of it. I'm sure you disagree with it, but a lot of non-believers think that way.
  11. They don't even make their own keyloggers, they use existing ones. They'd so the same with trojans. And if some people are stupid enough to get leylogged, they'll open the trojan too...
  12. This is completely false, they cant add their IP to the list unless they have logged on, and they cant log on unless their IP is on the list. Understand now? The whole idea Blaziken had wont work though, it would complety stop hackers, but it would make some people unable to access their accounts. You do realize of course that there would be a recovery process so that people who forget to add their new IP to the list or change ISPs can still play, right ? And guess what a hacker would use ? That same recovery process to add their own IPs to the list. And you know, instead of keylogging you, they'll send you a trojan instead. So they'll take control of your computer, access RS via it, which will look as if they are on the allowed IP. And they can add their IP to the list as well, or just go ahead and log on and take all your stuff. This idea has been beaten to death before. It doesn't work.
  13. Do you actually read books ? As in not the Bible ? Haven't you noticed that there's all sorts of things writers do that are weirdly constructed sentences, yet serve a purpose ? It's called 'style'. As in writing style. Starting a sentence with AND is not bad grammar. You're told not to do it as a child because it's not common and usually looks bad. Professional writers are usually able to make it look good. Not everyone. You think they go by what they learn in primary school ? You just find it more difficult to read, that's all. It doesn't make it bad grammar. Oh and quit trying to point out the difference between spelling and grammar. You're the one who brought "grammer" up first (mispelling intended).
  14. You know what, DaN ? I'm not exactly on the side of the believers in this thread, but frankly, I agree with them: you're an idiot. Even atheists have a clue as to what is right and wrong. Choosing Bin-Laden is an extremely stupid example, particularly after yesterday's events. You consider him good perhaps ? The sad thing is, you had some sort of a point, but that totally ruined it. At least choose a viable alternative to their God. As to bad grammar in the Bible... shows your ignorance even more. And by the way, it's grammar, not grammer.
  15. Well someone other than I posted in this thread that God created Satan, so that's open to debate... I can feel the love I have for someone. That's all the proof I need. I can't feel God (and by the way, don't refer to Christianity all the time. I could one day embrace a totally different religion, who knows ?). I don't know if sayings and traditions (wedding vows) show anything to be honest. They're just common sayings. I guess it might show there are more believers than non-believers, and that made the sayings common. Well to me, it's no proof, but that's me.
  16. Your own reasoning will suffice... as believers and non-believers alike have said in this thread, there's no proof. So no need to throw quotes at me. And sorry but your explanation didn't explain much to me...
  17. God desires our hearts to love him, not our actions. Making us only do right, is like making robots. You never know if the robot actually loves you and desires to be with you. It's all obligation, and I believe that is unfair. So we're given the ability to sin to prove ourselves ? Fine if you think that. Personally, I don't buy it. I don't have any reason to prove myself. If God gave me one, then perhaps I'd try. I'm not saying I'm gonna do "bad" things on purpose, I'm saying I have no reason to prove myself to any God. By the way, using quotes from the Bible to explain God (and therefore the Bible) is like going in circles. You need to explain it in your own words. The Bible is by definition biased towards God, so I doubt it'd give a contrary explanation. That's a theory I've heard before actually. That people need some justification to their existence and therefore created something/someone to believe in. I say existence and not life, because finding a purpose to one's life is not as difficult as finding a purpose to what comes after (or before) life. Heard someone say once that the Bible was the biggest instrument of propaganda ever written. That's some food for thought. Note to everyone out here: I'm not trying to disrespect anyone or the Bible by that comment, I'm merely repeating it. Plus I've never said I agreed or disagreed with it. So you saying that you wouldnt want to prove to God that you loved him and accepted him after all that he did for you. (such as umm.....CREATE you). And dont go saying "Well I dont belive in God, so why should I prove something to him?" because this debate isnt about wether God exists or not it is about if there was undeniable proof that he was real, what you would do. But that's the whole point, don't you see ? I don't have any reason to believe He created me or that He exists for that matter. So who am I proving this to ? Nobody as far as I am concerned. You need to believe in God first in order to prove something to God. Doesn't that make sense (if you don't believe or are agnostic, that is) ? If I had undeniable proof, then I'd act as such. I said before I was agnostic, I don't see why I would deny His existence if it was proven to me. Ok, let me explain. The Bible is a result of God's existence for believers. As jackalope (I think) said, He talks to us through it. The Bible wouldn't exist without God, so proving something about God using the Bible is pointless, since, by essence, you must believe in God already to believe in the Bible. See where I'm going ? I can't think of a good comparison rght now, but I hope you understand. He didn't mention free will, otherwise I'd have returned the question: "why give us free will ?". Ok perhaps I shouldn't have used the word "prove". But how else can you show your love of God if not by acting the way He supposedly wants you to ? insane said it had nothing to do with actions, yet his Bible quote end with "to do justice", which does require actions. Can't do justice by simply wishing it. And how does that answer my question that he lets us sin to begin with instead of having made us unable to sin ? That was my original question. I can understand you don't think of it as "proving yourself" since you believe in God, but accept that to me it feels that way. I try to do justice and love kindness, to quote insane, in my everyday life, but that's for my own personal satisfaction of the mind, not for a God. Therefore having to do it for a God feels like proving myself. I'm not asking you to agree, but to understand where I'm coming from.
  18. God desires our hearts to love him, not our actions. Making us only do right, is like making robots. You never know if the robot actually loves you and desires to be with you. 19. insane and gehjl, I'll repeat my question to jakalope: then why did God give us the ability to sin ? Why weren't we created with the ability to make the right decision every time ? Would solve all the problems then. And please don't tell me it's unrealistic. It's as realistic as suggesting God created everything.
  20. Second of course, it's newer and faster. They're both Nvidia GPUs. The 7800 is the latest. Of course it's more expensive and if the rest of the computer can't keep up, the card will end up waiting for it.
  21. This is one of the most mentally challenged post I have ever seen.. Okay, first of all the only reason you really said this is to make fun of George Bush, which is completely off topic.. Okay, I guess you didn't say NO pain and NO hatred.. But, you dont believe in 'a god' JUST because there is kind of a lot of pain and hatred.. That is absolutely ridicululs. So basically you think 'a god' should make life nearly perfect for everyone? I don't understand how you can think like this. Yea I have to agree with you there, that post by mercifull was pretty unthought over and seemed like just an attempt to take a shot at Bush. to Mercifull: You were talking about a hypothetical situation abou God being real So we are going to say God is real for this case. God allowed human suffering because humans are sinful, and most of the suffering is cause by humans, not God. What in the world gave you the idea that Caused it  Then why didn't God create a man that wouldn't sin to begin with ? Which is exactly what Mercifull is getting at and that kido14 isn't understanding.
  22. No. An Atheist believes there is no god, just like a Christian believes there is a god. Being certain requires proof, and none of us have proof at this time. Agnostic means you feel that you have no idea either way, you can still be an Atheist without being dead sure about the nonexistance of a supernatural being. Erm no. Nobody has any proof as you said, yet believers and non-believers alike are certain in their beliefs. An agnostic is not. For example, I am agnostic. I will never say yes there is a god or no there isn't. I don't pretend I can. I don't know either way. Now if you want my personal opinion, I can always give it, but I'm not certain of it, so it matters little. I don't see how one can be atheist yet not certain. That's a contradiction in itself.
  23. Urghh thanks for the popups, Zonda. And I actually block them ! Got a message it couldn't find a file in a message box (suspicious), then it opened 3 windows. :s Couldn't find a file where? And sorry about the pop ups, I need to find a new free host  Dunno, it said so in a message box, which is unusual.
  24. Then you're agnostic, not atheist. :) An atheist is certain there is no God(s). An agnostic doesn't know for sure or waits for proof, while being open-minded enough to realize someone can come out with proof one day. Mercifull, agree totally with your second post. I wouldn't ask to be annihilated though.
  25. So what, you're only gonna have sex to have kids ? Like I'm gonna believe that ! Some heterosexuals do not want kids, yet have sexual relationships. Is that harmful too ? You're narrow-minded again. The whole planet isn't gonna turn homosexual just because some are. Evolution is in no danger whatsoever and last time I checked, the Earth's population was still growing very fast. Don't exaggerate.
