Thing is, if San Francisco bans it, parents could just go to Daly City, Oakland, San Mateo, Redwood City, or any other city that's less than an hour away. The same thing was brought up when they tried banning toys from fast food. I'll say it again, San Francisco's local government is insane.

It's quite a leap from the removal of a useless piece of skin to the removal of most/all of the [bleep]oris. If you're a male and are circumcised shortly after birth, you aren't going to miss that little piece. The important parts are still there.

Unfortunately, I doubt that most OT members are mature enough to handle that kind of thing. Not that I don't think it would be interesting, but the last thing we need is for one political/philisophical clique flaming the hell out of people's values because they're different... Which has happened and probably will happen in the future. If we were all super-mature philosophers, I'd love to see us debate our values, but most of us are mid-late teens/early twenties and pretending to be super-mature philosophers.

And it opens the door for the same kinds of trolling and general assholery that we see on other debate threads (I disagree with your beliefs, therefore you are inferior. Please cease to exist at the sound of the beep). The line between debate and flaming isn't thin, but it frequently gets crossed all the same. If you want mature, intelligent debate, you've got to make sure that the people posting on it are mature and intelligent enough to do so, and keep out the people that clearly aren't.
