I'm honestly surprised that professors do this so often. Like, "hey, college students have MOUNTAINS of free time, it's okay to require that they do a ton of assignments and then only grade some of them" Yeah it kinda sounds like the thing a professor on a power trip would do lol I've had professors who seemed to think that "you should have taken an earlier bus" or "you should have left two hours earlier" is a reasonable policy to hold a student to if their bus breaks down, so it may be less of a power trip and more a complete detachment from the concept of time. Granted, that professor also pulled the "have students prepare for three possible essay questions by writing three essays in their free time, only one of which will be part of the test" thing, so it's hard to tell.

19th October 2015 - The Invasion of Falador | Event & Graphical Rework

There's a trope for that. Or two, even. -
So it's a question of persistence, is it? But yeah Reddit and the like are basically right there. Even for newer, not-declining games.

Especially since everyone's been here for so long. It's nice to have the option even if you never have to use it. plus it means you don't have to jump through hoops to get rid of a name you thought was a good idea when you were 13.

Are you saying that they shouldn't keep killing important characters off as soon as they're introduced? Do you realize how insane you sound right now? -

I would actually be alright with skilling being universally worse than combat if they made it less blatantly one-sided. It's like, combat gets new monsters with interesting mechanics and usable rewards, noncombat gets... the aquarium, which probably couldn't be any shittier if it was an actual toilet (and it just might be since you're not cleaning it at all). I mean, there was a point where skilling could have died with dignity and we've gone so far past it that they might as well rename it The Simpsons. -

That's because there's no failure or risk when skilling. The entire game would have to be remade from the ground up to rectify issues like this. It almost seems like they've been going out of their way to widen that gap though. Nobody expects skilling to be on par with combat, but I don't think anyone would mind them releasing a noncombat thing that isn't just objectively awful outright, when even the worst combat stuff is merely mediocre. -
Pretty sure that's what strilmus was trying to say: just because there's a list of things that the skill can do doesn't mean that they're useful or desirable. On paper, Hunter has a ton of uses, but not many of them are particularly good and the skill itself is really clunky.

Hold on now, wasn't that first thing the most contested part of Invention 1.0?

Update 5th October 2015 - Virtual Levelling | Ninja Update
Alg replied to Arceus's topic in General Discussion
Which is sort of the point. I wouldn't expect new players to know about the metagame, and the game honestly doesn't have much going for it outside of the accomplishment hunt... Anyone who joins the community is going to end up reading about how nothing they do will matter until the 120-200m range, so there's basically no sense of accomplishment until VERY far in your playing career. And even those will get less noteworthy as time goes on, kind of how maxing is less an achievement and more an obligation. I mean, that kind of thing is fine, I just wish we'd stop pretending the race has appeal for anyone that's not already deep into the game. Like, they hyped the hell out of the 99/120/200m race when Divination came out, but the skill itself is not particularly engaging or rewarding even by Runescape's standards. -
Update 5th October 2015 - Virtual Levelling | Ninja Update
Alg replied to Arceus's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't call several thousand hours of pure busywork 'accessible' in any sense of the word. The game is nowhere near as accessible as others of its kind, and it's been showing its age for the better part of half a decade. The 'new player experience' is to play a game from 2004 because the game from 2015 is locked behind time-limited plot events and enough grinding to get to the endgame in several other MMOs, and by the time you get there they've moved the finish line again. I dunno, it's a great environment for existing prestige hunters (for the moment: it all strikes me as crazy unsustainable thanks to power creep), but for any newbies it's like showing up to a race 5 hours later than everyone else. And if you're even the least bit casual there's literally no reason to even consider the game because that race is the official endgame, and if you can't find an MMO more suited to your interests in 2015, you probably didn't even try. -
Those colors though

...What, as a whole or compared to the other crap skills

And even those who are regular/big time posters on forums or social media sites tend to be the dedicated players, don't they? They tend to have some pretty substantial blind spots, as any group of players does.

The books are not canon in the slightest when it comes to the game lore, so any crimes or violence they commit there cannot be taken as indicative of what the organisation is within the game. With how fluid the lore has been lately...

Update 5th October 2015 - Virtual Levelling | Ninja Update

The sad thing is that it would have been a really good update if it came out a decade ago. -
What are you playing? I've been playing D&D 5e for about 3ish months now. I've basically ported Fire Emblem into a play-by-post game, so there's a big cast that has to agree on a strategy for every turn... Perfect for that sort of thing. How is 5E, anyway?

Finally got around to running an RPG about a week and a half ago, and I have a feeling that none of my players take me seriously. I'd be frustrated if not for the fact that in a few more sessions they'll probably be conditioned to my usual irreverent style, and that's when the mind games will begin :twss:

Yeah, those sorts of mechanics just feel really clunky with Runescape's control scheme. I mean, they work (ostensibly), but they really show the game's limits compared to games that more or less have the same control scheme. That Seren weapon, though? And the smithing rework? And those feathery dinosaurs? I need those.
