  1. Hi i decided to buy a new video card for the workstation i have. Right now it is running a Quadro4 900XGL. Im thinking of upgrading it to an ATI 9800XT or 9800Pro. Now is the XT worth the extra buck over Pro? I mainly just play C&C Generals and do light graphics work. Also would the system bring out the cards potential? Specs Dual 2.8ghz Xeon 512k 1gig PC800 Rambus 2 120gb Maxtor in RAID 0 config Im also considering upgrading another workstation i have at: Dual 2.2ghz Xeon 512k 1gig PC800 Rambus 2 18gig SCSI. The 9800Pro is pretty cheap on ebay at around 80 bucks so i wonder for C&C Generals if the performance difference will be big.
  2. lol 20 gig, go for at least 200gig. They only like 60 bucks now which is pretty darn cheap. I have 3 400gig Hitachi and 1 76gig Maxtor SCSI in my workstation lol. Use it primarily to store anime. Its 50% full already
  3. It would pay off more if you buy a great mouse or one those hotkey pads. Big difference when ur trying to use a sniper rifle. Regular mouse can be very jerky. You definitely dont need 180hz to be good at cs lol. I havent played cs for awhile but i used to play it on a Eizo Flexscan L66 ($3500 lol, i had the first LCD in my school :) ) and i was pretty good at CS.
  4. I've always thought 'Plug and Pray' was the correct term. really depends on whether you worship Saradomin, Zamorak or Guthix lol. anyway usually if you buy from like big brands like Maxtor, Seagate, WD, Hitachi etc you wont have a problem. Also he is running Win Xp pro. Pro has an excellent driver data base. I got like 5 or so USB hard drives lying around and non ever needed a driver.
  5. Buy an external one. They are usually plug and play.
  6. I got 760 in verbal, 800 in math and 640 in writing. Kinda sucks since verbal is supposed to be harder lol. Gotta study grammar over the summer. btw June SAT II results came back. Pretty happy i got 800 on Math IIC lol.
  7. I was gutting a computer i had and planned on selling 1 gig worth of the ram inside and the video card. However i wonder how i should package them for shipping. Anyone ever done this before? And yes it is for ebay lol.
  8. Try finding a used computer. Usually if you are on a very tight budget thats the way to go.
  9. I doubt u will need over 80hz for CS. 180 seems like overkill.
  10. Sry lol its intended for ppl that watched the Anime or read the manga. They will understand  anyway i supposed that whoever read this post would know what i am talking about. I dont want to explain it cuz frankly if you dont know what i am talking about then you dont. The whole pt of watching Anime is to be imaginative. Things are possible in animation that is not so elsewhere or might appear ridiculous. p.s. not there are more non-japanese anime fans than japanese ones lol. I for one isnt japanese although i did study japanese for awhile and can converse in it fluently (so is Chinese and Korean). Its very popular in East Asia, some parts of Europe. Not as many ppl watch it here (i mean here in the U.S. I live in New jersey) cuz most of the stuff shown on TV are dubbed which means they = crap.
  11. Just died in wildy trying to find a tissue box irl while afk lol. Anyone else watched this anime? I thought it was really good and kept just getting better (pretty rare since most animes goes the opposite). p.s. Im not ashamed to say that i cried at during the first climax lol. Freaking costed me 600k :( also MYCO is really good. Didnt know she can do voiceovers as well. I listened to a CD of hers awhile ago. Just hope this anime wont be licensed and dubbed. That would totally stink. edit: OMG I cant believe this. Sagash1te is censored? WTH is up with that? It means "Finding" not "Sh1t"
  12. When i play rs i usually watch anime on a different computer. Problem is that its annoying as hell to multitask two computers so im thinking of using my workstation which can multitask beautifully (dual xeon 3.2 gig ht so its like 4 processors :P) to play runescape and watch anime on the same computer. Now problem is that i dont have a spare monitor. I do however have a samsung 42 in lcd tv that was put into the basement as a home theater then kinda stored away when we bought a projector. It does not accept computer inputs however so i am wondering if there is a way to hook up the S-Video out of my video card to the tv and have it so that its dual screen (i tried to use the nvidia Nview since i have a 6800GT and it didnt work). anyone has ever tried this before? If not ill probably have to either buy another 20in lcd or take a computer out of my game network (got 8 dell precisions in it. The 2 laptops i have 1 is too old and 1 is like ultrathin meaning that it cant run anything besides msft word and IE so running rs and a full screened windows media player will be difficult on it. Tried to use the Intel Extreme utility. Got it to work but rs lags.
  13. You 'don't' 'rip out the keyboard' to get to your motherboard, anyways. And i totally agree with Pyro's first post.. It isn't advisable for a computer illiterate person to be fiddling with his laptop... And no offence if you ARE computer literate or anything, just givng an example. So, yeah... And the sockets will cause a problem with the CPU and your motherboard may not support the newer DDR type of RAM. A decent notebook laptop would probably turn out cheaper than upgrading anyways. Ape8191. rofl mind telling me how to get to the mobo without taking out the keyboard?
  14. Doubt u can upgrade the CPU cuz you have to rip out the keyboard and everything to get to the mobo. If you are willing and you know what your are doing u can get it to 1.2 ghz without frying your computer. Or, you can software overclock it a lil to like 1 gig. Make sure you get a stand cuz the bottom of the laptop will be very hot. Dell can not be overclocked by jumper or bios settings so you have to use a software. Its not that great but still an improvement. 512 mb should be enough. Doubt ur playing much games on that machine. Frankly 512 is perfect for most uses. I play rs on a Dell XPS B1000 with 512mb of ram and 1 ghz P3. I cant tell the difference between it and the "new" Dell Precision i got from the company my dad works for. The computer had a cracked mobo so they decided to throw it out, i bought a Precision 650 mobo off ebay. The thing had 4 gig of ram in it...a total waste lol.
  15. Like i said really depends on a person's habit lol. WHen i play games i have like a billion other stuff running, usually downloads with BitComet so dual processor is very nice in that situation.
  16. Blah 2000 bucks. You can get a VERY nice computer. I would buy a used one. Go search on ebay. Look at the Dell Precision or Alienware cuz those two are usually good deals. (Im a lil biased on this cuz i usually go for computers with dual processors and RAID built in) What you can get with 2 grand: Dual 3-3.4gig Xeon or a 3.6gig P4 Quadro FX-XXXX Geforce 6XXX or ATI 9XXX-AT X8xx 1-2 gb of ram 36gb of HD if your going for a SCSI 10k RPM - 15k RPM (usually its in RAID 0 config) 160+ if your just going for a regular ATA-133 drive. Good built in - Audigy sound a good examples: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 36890&rd=1 [/code]
  17. OS X Definitely. Windows is popular but very unstable and has more holes than a swiss cheese. Linux is good but they are more for techies. Unix blah lol wana run a DB server? :P OS X on the other hand is Unix based, user friendly, runs very lean and generally comes with better hardware.
  18. Geez Windows 2003 isnt designed to run everyday desktop apps. Ur safest best is to use Windows XP 64bit. Its just like Windows NT not running DirectX. The WinNT line has its limitations and pluses. also what version of Win2003 is it? As far as i know there is Professional, Small Server, Server and whatever. Of course, you can probably get it to run, but its just not worth spending time trying to figure it out when you can have a better solution. btw i hope you dont have Intel Itanium...cuz they are not backward compatible like AMD64
  19. It maybe possible that the MOBO can not support the amount of ram your trying to put into it without a BIOS update or something like a memory expansion module. Good way to check is to take out the stick of ram you put in and try to boot. If it doesnt boot uv cracked ur MOBO in all likihood and if it boots try to flash the BIOS with the latest version available. edit: I checked on the MOBO and it supports up to 3 gig of ram...that means its something much more scary lol. I would still take out that 512mb ram though to see if that is the problem.
  20. blah lol i named the most expensive video card i can think of on top of my head lol. btw Ryan, seriously itsa joke. Also, like Hannibal said, any used Alienware will pwn that computers at 1/2 the cost.
  21. Now I'm kind of curious... you spent 3000 dollar... what other specs did you get for that money? :S he better have got a Quadro FX4400 with it lol else its the rip off of the century (jk). :P
  22. Iv stopped buying from dell after i realized that i can get a computer for 1/3 of the price while being 3 times better. 3 grand for a computer...geez. Go on ebay you can get a Dell Precision for about 1/3 that much. A good Alienware for 1/2 as much.
  23. You could have got a MUCH better used computer for the same amount of money you paid for the Dimension lol.
  24. Try to check your computer case and see if your video card is place right next to a PCI card. If yes move the PCI card away 1 or 2 slots. Usually its the video card that overheats.
