Pixel fonts don't work everywhere. Stop pretending they do. Anyway. The brushing is nicely done, but the main fault I see is that you made the piece symmetrical. A symmetrical explosion just doesn't feel right to me. The fire is very nicely done, and the piece does look 'hot'. The render looks a bit jaggy though.
