The MT-2 is alright for bedroom practice. In any other situation it WILL let you down. It sounds like a jar of bees being unleashed into your amp, the fuzz is just unbelievable. If you really refuse to use amp distortion, check out other pedals, like the Line 6 Uber Metal.

Chromatics are the best way to improve your finger strength and speed. A -----------------1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 E --1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 ... and so on. (number refer to fingers, not frets) Or to focus on your ring and pinky fingers alone, just work your way up and down the strings just using them. You're far better to practice on the fretboard than to use the gripmaster.

Justin Chancellor. He's a really weird bassist because he was actually a guitar player first. You can hear alot of that in his playing. My favourite bassists would be Cliff Burton, Geddy Lee, Roger Glover, Jimmy Bain and John Entwhistle.

I think Azvi is right that you need a guitar teacher, but not for the reasons he listed. You can figure out which fingers to use where in most cases, and you can become a good player without a teacher, definately. The reason i got a teacher was to help me learn theory. I can't stress enough how much having at least some knowledge of theory will help your playing. Trying to learn it by yourself can be pretty hard, a teacher will help infinitly.

Portnoy is a more skillful drummer than Carey, no doubt. Carey is just so much better to listen to though.
