Dogs have a deadly bite. Tigers can tear through us with their claws. Gorillas can crush our bones. Horses and cows have a powerful kick. We'd have to use some sort of logic to overcome an animal of our size, since pretty much all of them have at least one deadly weapon on their bodies. Eye gouging for the win. Or maybe find out their pressure points. But yeah, humans are pathetic combatants without weapons.

Exactly how I feel, word for word. What really got to me was that they took out all the gore in Left 4 Dead 2 - even though there is a setting where the player can control how much gore they want to see!

One could argue that you'd (not you specificly) would devote said money, time, and effort out of the (selfish) desire to give your child the best you could. Just thought I'd add that in. I thought we were talking about the traditional usage of the word "selfish", not how (semantically speaking) every action we do is selfish to a degree. Otherwise I really don't see the point to making this thread revolve around parenting. Couldn't you just start up a thread about how all of our actions are self-serving instead? Ehh, I'd say it's more of a desire to have sexual intercourse, the reproduction just being an outcome of it. :???:

I borrowed my friend's Bully game for the 360. It's pretty cheesy and entertaining :P :thumbup: , but I hate how it's known to freeze a lot though.

By having a child, you're making the population increase because of your personal desire to start a family, which is selfish. By having a child, you are giving up energy, money, and time that could have been spent on yourself for the sake of another person, which is unselfish. Depends on how you want to look at it really. I'd say having a child is neither selfish nor unselfish alone, but the reasons the parent wants the child is what would show us whether it's selfish or not. I'd like to have kids when I'm mature enough and enjoyed life enough as a non-parent. I just like the idea of keeping my blood here on the planet after I die.

My girlfriend bought me The Simpsons Game for V-day. It's actually pretty entertaining - I was in the mood for a linear adventure game. Some levels are pretty challenging for a Simpsons game. :thumbup: My only beef with it is the camera and the jumping physics.

There is no good argument for why it should be illegal. It doesn't even affect heterosexual couples. And I also think it's funny anytime people bring up the "sanctity of marriage". It's more sacred for two men in love to get married than for a female gold-digger to marry a rich old man for his money. There has never been a sanctity of marriage, even in the old days when the father would give away his daughter for marriage if the boy would give the father something in return (even though it was against the daughter's will). PS: I'd be interested in seeing statistics comparing the gay divorce rate with the straight divorce rate. That should be interesting.

Most smokers don't "need" it anymore than you "need" chocolate. It's just something with mild repercussions that people enjoy using. Now yes, people who smoke 20 times a day or eat chocolate 20 times a day probably will have to face harsher repercussions. But then again, too much of any substance, including healthy food and water, isn't good for your body.

I acknowledge that they do have their differences, but you said they don't have any similarities which is just completely untrue. First, they are all countercultures prevalent amongst nonconformist teens and young adults. Go to pretty much any high school and you will see these cliques. Second, they are usually obsessed with having an "original" appearance, even though they ironically follow their own norms. Third, I'm pretty sure the thread maker was referring to the modern day version of "goth", judging by the pictures he posted. So yes, goths are into poetry, but your typical teenager falls a little short of philosophical, so I think it's safe to say that the definition has definitely altered through time. Four, even playing by your own definitions, they still have a bunch in common. You said that goths saw themselves as above the rest of society, and treated themselves as such. Sound an awful lot like the anti-establishment and nonconformist attitudes that the punks and emos have. They're all dissenting elitists. All three also have a fascination with art. I will probably add more later.

Okay, I guess that statement wasn't as bad as I thought now that I'm aware of the context. I see where you're coming from now, but you're basing your entire opinion off of a few select experiences. Of course there are going to be people who are worse off thanks to drugs, just as there are people who are now better off. You're only looking at one side of the coin. I just think we should take things as they are. Drugs alone aren't good nor evil. In the wrong hands, of course they can be bad, just like literally every object on this planet. (Pencils can be used to blind someone you dislike.) But, in the right hands, they can be extremely beneficial. I hate when drugs get a bad rap because a bunch of idiots were being irresponsible. It's the same as hating cars just because a drunk driver took your family away. As for those advocates giving out skewed data, I agree completely. People should know both the pros and cons to drugs and then make the decision on their own. Letting conflicts of interest and biases interfere with the information being conveyed to the people is just unfair. And I see it among both sides of the debate.

^^Haha, that's why I saved every 3-5 minutes. It doesn't sound bad so I'll probably give it a try. Hopefully the environment will be more interesting though.

And you don't find that close-minded? Calling me close minded is going to open a whole new can of worms that I don't think you'd be willing to deal with. I admit, it's a bold statement. Close minded? I don't think so. Radical? Yes. Just to clear any confusion, I'm not saying, "If you don't smoke then you're a close-minded person." That would be pretty close-minded of me. Some people might have very good reasons not to, such as health problems, not enjoying the effect, or perhaps enjoying the effect too much. But by the sound of your cancer comment, it seems like you are pretty unreceptive to the idea that marijuana can be a positive thing (or at least a better choice than dying of cancer), which is where I think the close-mindedness comes into play. Unless of course you have some bold support for your bold statement. I don't mind opening cans of worms. I've always been interested in drug debates.

Implementing a reputation system into any social website will change how the people act. I'd much rather be a part of a site where no one's afraid to say certain things or offend some easily offended people though. Not to mention... superficial manners. Yuck. Please don't take away TIF's frankness.

A system where you'd be forced to appease everybody? Sorry, but that sounds like a terrible idea. People would ruin other posters' reputations just for disagreeing with them about politics and stupid stuff like that.

What? I just used beds to heal up most of the time. The Germantown place has an empty bed just feet away from where you start. As long as you have the ability to fast travel, you can heal up. And maybe you didn't put enough skill points into Medicine. It's one of the best ones to invest in. Haha, I agree there. They might only be a small part of the world, but whenever you do go in there, it feels like an eternity because it sucks and it's easy to get lost. The map needs to be a little more accurate for those parts. Fallout 3 has some strong points and some weak points. I'm not a fan of traveling through a wasteland for hours. Honestly, it's worse than traveling through a desert. You'll see some "civilization", get your hopes up, and then find out that it's just a completely useless abandoned building. The environment just was not fun for me. However, I really enjoyed the fusion of RPG elements and futurism. --- On topic... I went to the store and got 5 new games: Assasin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, and Fable 2.

I actually enjoyed 8 a lot. You can really get into the character customization. Although the drawing was kind of lame. They should have just gave you their spells after killing them or something.
