    Today...

This is at 9:30 at night in the dorms while streaming music but it beats my internet at home... I am on Ethernet though, because the wifi is utter garbage. Looking into good funk songs with lots of bari. So basically I posted two things that don't belong in this thread in this thread. Yay!
  2. I am very glad I chose today to look at the blogs sidebar. If/when I get another Togepi I'm naming it Deke.
  3. I think I have 611 facebook friends. I don't know of anyone unfriending me because of something I did but there have been a couple of times that I have unfriended people because 1) they were far too concerned about what I was posting when really it's the internet, I'm a teenager, let me complain and/or 2) stupid status updates using language that I don't really want on my newsfeed and doing this all the time. I have always been picky about who I friend, I need to have met them at least once and usually when I send a request it's accepted pretty quickly. I do have one I was sent that's pending because she was a camper at the camp I was a counselor at over the summer but I think I can friend her now.

I got to see this in person yesterday. It was way better live but this is still worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdrqdW4Miao

I have had 3 dells in my day and one of three died because of poor math skills - was a custom Dell Inspiron 5300 (I think) and it had a graphics card option that was not designed for laptops so it overheated and died. But Dell's website let my dad pick that graphics card. Stupid. And then he went and bought a Dell desktop that makes an awful racket despite being cleaned properly probably once a month and is just uber slow and garbage even though it has 8Gb RAM. The first one was a Dell Latitude laptop that unfortunately we decided died when it was sitting on the counter in an inch of water. It probably would have booted up if we had dried it out but we decided to not try that as it was potentially dangerous and the laptop was pretty old anyway. I have an Acer Aspire and it's awesome, the only thing I'd like to change about it is more RAM (which I can do for $70) and make it lighter (which I can't do anything about). It's a 15.6" with 4gb ram and a 500gb hard drive, got it off newegg for ~$300, AMD insides and a Radeon graphics card.

I'm supposed to be doing my homework but I don't want to because it involves thinking and MatLab and things that I don't want to do right now (Signals and Systems for Bioengineers). Hopefully I will decide to do it reasonably soon rather than not doing it until tomorrow. But I will be in a parade tomorrow.
  7. Got Lego Star Wars III for DS because it was $13 and I hadn't played it. Finished Portal, haven't started Portal 2 yet. Got Magicka on the Amazon sale and it's a fun little game if a bit lacking in certain features (some of the controls/gameplay you have to figure out on your own). But I got The Doctor as DLC for $0.25 so that's cool. Also recently achieved gold statue in Plants vs Zombies. /my really lame gaming
  8. What if I was going to run a virtual machine? I technically do have one on here, VBox with Windows XP in it. I installed it to play games on but the graphics card support was lacking so I kind of gave up on it. I guess I still want to know what it does... :P I mean if it's just what Wikipedia says then does the CPU automagically figure out that I'm running a virtual machine? Does VirtualBox tell it that?
  9. 1. I have 2 DDR3 RAM slots in this laptop. It currently has two 2GB sticks (OEM). If I wanted to upgrade [preferably to 8GB] for reasonably cheaply, what's a good brand to go with? Reasonably cheaply being <$100 USD if possible, I'm not really sure of the going price on RAM at the moment. 2. Running Speccy gives me information about Virtualization in the CPU page: Virtualization Supported, Disabled I have an AMD A6-3420M cpu and was wondering if there is any benefit to enabling that and what it does exactly. I read the Wikipedia page but it was not particularly useful to me.
  10. TIF icon is not back. Have VBulletin icon in tabs. Is sad.

Finally finished my dumb paper for composition... It was supposed to be 8-12 pages. Mine was 16, with 8-9 pages of annotated bibliography. I hate english classes.

Where do you go? I go to Tech; unless I'm mistaken if it's public, probably UofM? There are like three TIFers there I think.

My fall semester bill is $10,200 after my scholarship. 8K is tuition, 5K is res hall/food. I do attend the most or second most expensive public university in my state (probably second most now, because we went to plateau tuition.) I <3 my parents though, because they're paying for it. I do have to buy my books yet, that'll be a lot probably...

Even though this is my first year of having Steam and money to spend on it, I've spent about $15 on the summer sale. Got the Portal Pack ($12.49) and Surgeon Simulator 2013 ($3.00 or so). But I also dropped $5 on a Skillet album from Amazon so I'm down to no dispensable monies until tomorrowish (I think I get paid tomorrow. I hope I do.) Edit: That puts my Steam collection up to BioShock 1&2, Portal 1&2, Surgeon Simulator, and Scribblenauts Unlimited. Kind of lame, especially considering I can't play BioShock for much longer than 10 minutes at a time as it gives me an awful headache.

    MBTI Thread

Since we haven't had one of these in about two years by the looks of it, here's the not annual MBTI thread! If you haven't taken it recently, here's a couple of ones that are good and succinct: DiscordiaMBTI/HumanmetricsMBTI/MyPersonalityMBTI (need to sign up) If you want to know more about your type Google it or something, Wikipedia has a pretty good collection of descriptions and it ties them into the Kearly [or whatever] big five types. Anyway, I've taken it like four times in the past day or so and pretty regularly get ISTJ (Inspector) or INTJ (Mastermind). I consider myself more of an INTJ because that was what I got the first time I took it a while ago. I will also add a lovely poll so we can see what personalities make up OT.

My parents and brother each have a Kindle and they borrow library e-books all the time. Maybe it's your library? Hot and annoying here, and I need to do actual work but was caught up in hysterical blog posts and then did the unit quiz for my online chem... More boring British lectures coming up next.

There's a reason they attempt to teach engineers to flowchart before they code, even if they're only teaching them how to code in Matlab.

And also mine. Did DI with a bunch of students today, that was fun. Now I get to be up until 2 am for late night duty.
  21. @Tim have you gone to a doctor yet? I have type 1 and might be able to figure some stuff out for you, I forgot if you had done serious self-diagnostics besides comparing symptoms - but you could grab a blood sugar meter and some strips relatively cheaply and do your own testing for a week or so to see how that goes. At Wal-Mart you should be able to get their Reli-On brand meter for $16 and ~30 strips for $10 I think... Either way, a small quantity of strips and a cheap meter is all you need to be 'sure' besides just the symptoms. Test in the morning when you wake up, and two hours after you eat. They should be in the 80-100 range, and definitely below 200 (mg/dl, if you're in anywhere but the US it'll be mmol, so 4-6 and below 11). @Dizzle229 Presumably you have internet access and a phone. Look up a GP in your area, call them, see if they'll see you without insurance (honestly, you could just go straight to a counselor or something, you should be able to get them to see you). That way you avoid getting your dad involved, unless he has gotten you a copy of your insurance card. Otherwise you could possibly 'borrow' it and photocopy it or something and take it in. [You have money, get a cab or public transit or whatever] Other options include calling and asking about your options, I'm sure asking about where you can get free and confidential help on a suicide hotline would probably yield results. I did a google search and found http://www.suicidehotlines.com/newyork.html and http://www.preventsuicideny.org/Thinking_About_Suicide_.html that you should be able to find an applicable phone number on. Honestly if I were you I would a) tell my dad to stfu and stop being an ass about it and let me go to a doctor and/or b) show him how serious I am about this. I have no idea how those would go over. If you have another relative who can back you up or that you can go through or can involve a local authority it might convince your dad to do something about it.

I, too, have always wanted a remote control helicopter. Once I get my other gift card, I'll have $25 in Amazon monies and will get either a MtG deck builder kit and a Feraligatr figure or possibly that. I need to see if there are good ones for little money.
  23. DO IT. You won't be sorry! We have all the sour Skittles and Diet Mountain Dew you can ask for!
  24. The Grand Rapids Griffins are the 2013 Calder Cup Champions! This is the first time any franchise in GR has brought home the hardware, so we're a little excited.
