  1. Yeah the problem I have with dual monitors is that it throws the ratio off. It is not a huge difference, and if you watch the screen the whole time I suppose you compensate. But when you draw simply feeling the curves from the reference etc. then the cursor travels further on the horizontal axis due to it being keyed to cover the whole screen with the tablet length. The result is a skewed drawing.
  2. Argh, today's submission took forever. It is a bit on the odd side. I started going through Loomis' books today and while working on anatomy took a divergent path on this one.
  3. Pretty cool :) And it won't bend fold or become mutilated! I would think that would be a pain to do in 3d. Of course...everything seems a pain to do in 3d to me.

Sort of. I actually was gone on some work travel...busy..then had to go to a wedding, etc .
  5. I doubt that the program itself would. And I am not sure if there is a pocket pc version. However, you might see if you can find a palm emulator...ie a program that allows you to run palm programs....
  6. Tonight's work, went back to some sketching. It was almost right until I did the head...it was too big..so had to fix it on the computer. Ah well, still was fun to get back to pencil sketching. It was also an attempt at some cross hatching. I don't know much how to do it, so any tips would be helpful . From a National Geographic reference...

  8. my small one works fine too. The real reason to buy a larger one is a. You want more exercise while you draw b. you have a really high res display. Remember, the thing keys to your display so if you have a large high res display consider a larger tablet. c. If you have dual monitors running definitely consider it. Of course then it is a bit odd because dual monitors stretch one axis more than the other. As for practicing with them, when the wifey got her's I assigned her to take out backgrounds of photos for me. That kind of work gets you steady quickly.
  9. Yeah lately I am going for fewer strokes, more results, less realistic in one sense, but more painterly. The reason is that I am trying to get the basic form down, and I can do it more quickly this way. Once I get that aspect I might go back to approaching more realism. Actually...after checking some work today on Concept Art I might do some cell shading for a bit and then go back to more realism. At the moment I am tied to doing something pretty much everyday as I have a ca sketchbook now. So gotta keep working!
  10. Quite possibly. It takes a bit to get used to. And I have seen some inhumanly good mousers too, so if you already have that skill, might as well stick with it. But few do. And if you already do traditional painting or drawing it is essential as the skills transfer nicely. I also meant to mention that if you are looking to buy a notebook computer then don't get a tablet. Just get a TABLET PC! It has all the notebook features and you can draw right on the screen and get some great results. All but one or two of the tablet pc's use wacom digitizers anyway.
  11. INTENTIONAL DOUBLE! I ramble so much if I want to say something important I have to start a new post to get people to listen! If you want a LIMITED idea of what a wacom would be like, and you have a PALM device, then try loading this handy FREE tool that allows you to use your palm like a tablet for your pc! No joke! ONLY supports serial though :( http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fusea ... odID=11106
  12. No explanation needed! Tablets are awesome! Now if you REALLY want the pricey magnadoodle go get a CINTIQUE! It sets you back a mere 1,800 bucks, but hey. As was mentioned above though you really can't go wrong with a graphire. It is cheap (relatively, I know 80 bucks isn't exactly cheap), AND comes with software. People actually paid over 80 bucks for elements 2.0 alone. Now that 3.0 is out it is still not a terrible deal. elements will do most of what ps does and at a fraction of the cost. The painter version I am not sure about...never used it. The wife has it because she got a graphire, but I already had painter 7 so I didn't bother. but you have to consider the software when you get the hardware. It is a good deal. The only drawback to the graphire is that it doesn't support TILT!!!!!!! I am so used to tilt with my wacom intuos that I can't quite get the hang of not having it. But it is not really a necessity unless you are doing a lot of wacom airbrush work. And by that I don't mean the air brush tool in ps. They have an actual air brush tool with the dial and all. But it costs more than the tablet itself! I thought of getting it for the wifey since she does some traditional air bruzhing too, but the cost was too much.
  13. he is not the one who even suggested selling it at first. Give the guy a break. He just wanted to show what he did. And tutorials are a great learning device.
  14. Thanks for the comments, and yes, she is wearing a long sleeved white shirt under a blue shirt :) I have several really difficult postures I have picked out for the next ones...this is good practice :)
  15. argh! been gone too much...and all my pics are blacked out because of the security issues...doh Ah well, today's work. More figure practice....a little over an hour...getting faster!
  16. We are not limited on this board to rs stuff :) The shotgun looks like it could use some more detail, but the knife looks quite nice!
  17. Working on some more figure practice....a little over an hour...getting faster! I have been gone too much though :(
  18. Been out of town for a bit...just a start to a picture...doubt I will fnish it.
  19. Naw, the actual sketches are done in pencil!
  20. Incidentally Gandorf, forgot to mention that a tablet is quite handy. And I also just started using dual monitors...it is fantastic for keeping all of your tools and reference images on one screen and actually painting on the other!
  21. Gandorf, it is actually looking pretty good! Better than most first attempts I have seen for sure. You should pursue this more. It helps of course if you have a tablet. Two things that I think would help it a lot. First, go over the lines and clean them up. Some are bumpy. Use the eraser tool or just paint over it. Second, and this is the biggest, you have to take a more transparent brush (I use 95 percent transparent) and brush over the hard transition lines from color to color to blend them in.
  22. Yeah this one was 100 percent brushing in Corel Photopaint. For the stretch and the ocean one I used corel painter. Same idea, both are often used for emulating traditional mediums, but Painter is a bit more like painting, and corel photopaint is much more like ps. The one for yesterday, the orange one, I used pencil first then corel photopaint. This one today was digital start to finish.
  23. This started as a daily sketch but came out much better than hoped so I made a deviation out of it. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/17172783/
