Ah well we all get tired after a while of the game. I hope you consider more art pursuits, but if not ,ah well. There is much more to art than gp....

Thanks for the critique. Yeah, a shadow would help. Her hand is supposed to be curling back to show emotion, kind of contorted like. The process. It all depends on the tool. For most kinds, yes I do hard strokes then blend. This applies to basically everything I do in Corel Photopaint (no I don't have ps, I use corel since I can't afford ps). Most things in Painter I do the same, especially when using opaque brushes. I usually use the rough O brush from the fine art 2 collection. It emulates a traditional rough brush. I have a couple of walk throughs, though they were all done with Corel Photopaint. They are just progress shots mostly. But they show the usual method. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=258320&highlight= http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=201522 http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=201394&highlight= Here is one from painter. I have a lot of half-finished practice ones. This is the latest from a couple days ago. Not sure if I will ever finish. No reference on this one, getting tired of reference. This is using the rough o brush. It is basically an opaque brush. It is set in Painter to have a somewhat blending quality so that it emulates oils. I also use a dry brush blender which emulates mixing current paint with a dry brush on canvas. With the air brush tool I tend to just lay down tone, drawing it out in layered strokes. They are all soft, but build. One stroke doesn't give much. But it is not the same as blending in after a hard stroke. with detail however, the old method is the one that is closest, because with a small air brush you get a more traditional brush feel. I usually paint at 2000 x 2000 or larger. Perhaps the largest I have done is 6000 pixels on one side. I suggest you work in as large a space as possible, with dpi at 300. The only limit should be your computers RAM etc. In air brush especially it seems quite necessary or else it looks a bit grainy. But I like to with my others too for when I make DA prints. I upload them at a smaller size so that they are easily viewed. Also, I didn't get Xman's critiqued. Thanks for reminding me :) I would love to see the whole piece. With only that section it is a bit hard to make sense of the light source. Is it basically coming straight on, or perhaps just slightly to the right (from our view) of center? Good eye highlight, and pupil detail. Keeping it loose makes it look more natural. I like the bird, Pretty cute. The vehicle looks interesting, but the wheels seem almost stone age. And ...if you look at it just right it looks like a forshortened guy on his back with his belly sticking up...and ...er..his feet cut off? Anyway lol. Nice work.

A. yes I pretty much struggle with perspective. That is why I want to do these kind of things, I need the practice. It is raised, as it is at the last viewing, on those little rolling stands. Yes the ruffles splay out too much. I haven't figured away around that yet. Actually..I think if I made the corner one recede more behind the other that would help....but I doubt I will now. The face, I don't see as much of an issue there, but in any case, I find the air brush to be great overall, but tough to get tons of detail. thanks for the critique! On your piece, I like the duotone, but the contrast has to go up for me to make much of it. The farmer/punk thing is humerous. maybe some more elements of how he is fitting it would be good. for hanging on his arm she seems quite small.

100 Percent air brush in Painter 7, no reference, around 2 hours or so.

The idea is that they follow the topic. But if you do something else you can put it here too. Here is mine for couples. No reference I have seen a lot of couples in this situation unfortunately. The last moment together. Not all couple moments are good ones. but you can really see the love--and pain, at times like these. (by the way, this looks far better on a dark theme)

Lineart, pixel WIP - update 2
Hm, not sure how I managed to miss this post for that long. Good work on this. Now all that remains is for you to break out of that reserved shell and start cranking out work like this all the time! Very good proportions for an early pixel.

'Nother WIP (no gerbils this time)
I generally don't pronouce it :) But a lot of folks drop the first two t's and say tia. Especially in clan voice chat. Which incidentally, also sounds girly, so hey, ya can't win. Other's go with the chia pet theme...t-t-t-tia...... And some are scandalized by the whole thing and just say "T". Makes no diference to me :) Depending on if you want a more shiney leather you could make some sheeny (that a word) parts, with hard highlights. Kind of like slick rock star pants. I guess demons would wear those right? . But yeah, it is troubling. Cell shading has its limits. Actually at the moment you have the one character with the cell, and the other without. I wasn't sure if it was a statement or not!

'Nother WIP (no gerbils this time)
Nice work! I like the figures expressions etc. The things to work on from my perspective would be a. As xman said, the stransition is just too stark. b. There is a mixing of shading styles, which is subtle, so I didn't notice it right away. But parts of it are cell shaded (her leg for instance) and parts of it are shaded with more tones (such as his pants). Were they drawn seperately at first? Hope you keep doing more of this!

Large sized sketch. (Slayer is back)
I like the sketch quite a bit. I think you were a bit defensive on the proportions issue haha. I actually like the purple one a bit better. I think it would help the red one if you upped the contrast slightly. You have to work to see the details.

MY SUPER DUPER PAINT SIG
It isn't terrible. It does the job about as well as most people's first shots at pixel. Some even pay money for someting like that. Not much mind you, but it does happen. The real humerous part is reading Terley's post while thinking of Terley's early works :) We all learn. We all get better. Terley does good work now, but didn't always. It is like that for all of us. So let's have some humility. Keep practicing. If it doesn't matter to you though, then just drop it and move on with life. But if you want to get better, then Terley's advice, while prhased rather harshly is not bad.

Pixel 'Craze'
I guess I don't recall any inhumanely talented ones that you would find on the big sites. But we do have a few in the intermediate range. Those that have some talent do check in now and again. And it is not hard to find them on DA, Cg talk etc. The main thing is that this board is just not that conducive to posting that kind of work, primarily because of the pixels etc. That is what the market is, and that is what people want. There is nothing wrong with that. It just means there is less room on the boards for other things.

Thanks all for the comments. And ...evil? er ok. For those interested, the story behind this particular bear is found on the deviation page. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/21311501/

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Rated Adult-Only
Hillary's hubby and his problems sexualized more kids than gfa, that is for sure. And this whole reaction has just caused people who would have had to buy the game, and modify it, to now just look up the video on the internet. Having said that, I wouldn't mind some legislation aimed at desexualiizing a lot of society. But this is more for posturing for upcoming elections than anything. The dems were beat by the values vote again, and they want to get a piece of the action. So now Hillary is pro-war (though critical of the presidents handling), pro family, pro God, anything that polls well.

Pixel 'Craze'
Most things have been said. I just want to highlight a few, and reiterate. scope-you can portray anything size- it is a perfect medium for small sig restrictions paint- everyone has it rs money- sorry to say but it really is what is responsible for the CRAZE. The cash rich rs market was waiting for a medium that could capture rs scenes of glory. art- whether or not some are cartoony, at least we finally have something that requires talent. I think it is great But the biggest thing I saw was Godslayer's comment. Why keep doing sigs when you are always taking everyone elses orders. That is why I quit doing it. The money was pointless, you could earn it faster in rs. Doing the same tired requests over and over again was a grind. When you do art for its own sake you can take pride in doing the way you really wanted to. Not the way the costomer wanted to. I hope more of the artists get tired of the sig grind soon. Only, rather than leaving, I hope they start doing larger works.

Deviantart - Submit nothing August 7th
Jark did say there were only two, but if you look at an earlier journal he seemed to say three. Either way, it is getting interesting. The jark phenomenon has dominated the front page. A boycott will indeed be hurt by a submit yellow campaign. And really, the whole thing has actually HELPED Spyed because the traffic regarding all this has doubtless [bleep]ed--boosting ad revenue. Here are some interesting links on the issue which might give some insights as to what precipitated things. http://www.t52.org/#2 http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/21272664/

My first day in AfterEffects.... [movie]
I like the movement on the monitor screen. It looks natural. The still picture of the waves goes against our expectations, maybe a bit too much. It seems like a rather interesting program. Do you simply create those screen elements on the monitor then introduce them along a timeline? And where is the photoshop work...other than getting the elements? Just curious. Looking forward to more of them. But er...wow we have to find you a way to compress! (now to go clear out my temp files!)

Break-up advice
Sleezy...yes. Bad idea?? Well if you are attacked by a gang of 14 year old girls and they beat the tar out of you for what you did to their friend...probably.

Advice on MP3 players?
Since it sounds like you are more concerned with skip control (for jogging), than size of memory, and are probably looking to spend no more than you have to, consider this article on flash based players: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1836831,00.asp It is interesting to note that in a review of the audio quality it was found that the ipod SHUFFLE outperformed other players, including the bigger ipods. For more on this see Bill Machrone's column here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1777890,00.asp This is important to some audiophiles, especially those who connect their player to their car system or their home stereo system. Of course...it would make more sense to include these higher quality audio components on the more expensive...and expansive units. They are more likely to be used with high end audio systems because they can basically store all of your music.
