Daz3D picked one of my pieces for their July Gallery
Congratulations ;) Of course, more important than the Daz gallery is that you will be the envy of all the media abstract types .

London has bin bombed!!
he misread it as media (news) discussion. Give him a break.

Agreed Ryan...we may be old crotchety whiners, but we REALLY WANT that sub-forum! It would weed out most of the siggy questions. Wyrmy...I assume you are still reading this....how likely is that possibility? It wouldn't actually require any moving of topics as we could simply start it new. Incidentally....do you really think the people at something leet are that good? lol. The usual reason I hear that peole don't like that one is that they flame constantly.

I don't think I would endorse another closed-door group. As nadril said we already tried that. But I wouldn't mind a sub forum where no sig related topics were allowed. I just don't know that there would be sufficient interest to merit it. You don't really have to screen people for talent. You simply have a place where sigs cannot be discussed. That way clear out 90 percent of the topics such as a. how do you make sigs? b. what program do you use to make sigs? c. first pixel sig d. Frist ever sig e. Rate my sig f. Do you think these sigs are worth money? g. who is the best/worst/biggest trash talking sig maker? h. pixel sig practice...pixel linework practice...pixel sig tutorial (not that you can't have larger pixel works, you can but most of these topics are not like that). You get the idea. I think a sub forum, open to all, but with strict rules of NO SIG discussion would be great. But do the folks who run theboards see a need for it? Do the artists here see a need for it? I don't know that.

Sailor's Delight
Yeah I might have to rework the reflection some. Although when a reflection on the water is present it often does blind the person.

You will never convince sig makers who have a market for them that they should reduce prices. And yes, the rares market and the complete failure of any real money sinks has made rs cash-flush. For a while this seemed to bother Jajex...not anymore though apparently. So I think we all acknowledge that the real problem is that everyone wants to make sigs to make money. As a result sigs are the only thing that get any run on this board. But this is the media DISCUSSION board. Not the DO YOU THINK I CAN MAKE MONEY OFF OF THIS LAME PIXEL SIG board. WE need have those posts moved. In fact, it would be nice if the media discussion board discussed MEDIA, not sigs. But again, those who are obsessed with sigs are not going to suddently not be obsessed with them. So the only way to counter this is to GET MORE people obsessed with actual art. Flood the noob s ig makers with real work. But that requires us all to make a commitment to it. And in the past we have not shown that. I think all in all we might as well just admit that this is a sig making board. It is the history of it, and will probably be the future of it. The only options I see are: 1. Moderate the first 5 posts that someone makes in the media section, and if it is terribly lousy send them a pm informing them--technical pain, and a man-power nightmare...but the better boards do it. 2. Make a rule that all sig discussion goes in the media market board...since really, that is where all the sigs are sold, etc. Rid the whole discussion board of sigs. Limit it only to discussion of art or media in general. This seems unlikely. 3. everyone who doesn't play rs anymore makes an effort to do work other than sigs, to post it often. 4. This has been debated for a long time, and the new media markt board more or less shows the stand that Tip has taken, but the other option is to ban making sigs for money entirely. As it is it is arules violation of Jagex' policy. we got permission finally from them to use images in sigs from the game, but we never did get permission to sell out of game items for rs cash Now having said all this, the truth is that the vast majority of people here like sigs, like making money off of them, and think we are old crotchety whiners. So the only ones that even look halfway plausible are number 2 and number 3. Especially number 2 because we don't need permission to do it. Post lots of good non-sig art. inspire others to do the same.

Sailor's Delight
Painted in a few hours in corel photopaint. It was hard to get those clouse having volume but still being somewhat soft.

I think what we really need are contests that get away from rewards in rs money. That is part of the problem. For instance, at rsc they have a competition of the month. It is run by the mods, has a nice theme, has set rules, a set deadline, and they keep an archive of winners. It is fun, and there is absolutely no cash rewards.

Signature Signatures. Read Please?
If you took my post seriously you would have more problems than that!

Signature Signatures. Read Please?
Dromar used to have a symbol. Of course then he went mad and reduced several artists to iconic animals and made some quite strange animated scenes, claimed someone else did all of his sigs, professed artist's block and eventually disappeared. You don't really want to repeat that episode do you? Pretty soon we will all legally change our names to symbols and our careers will be over. The artists former known as tttia...no thanks.

To me the issue is not the talent level. We have no digital painters or vector artists anywhere near the pro level. And of course when we get decent ones they are here to flaunt anyway. Most people of that caliber simply go to one of the afore-mentioned art sites to get feedback from folks at their level. The issue is also not the quality of the board. I think that Rsc is actually going to have a better board for art soon because of a few factors. First of all they have a terrible market for sigs there, so they don't become the focus. That is not to say they don't mainly deal with sigs...just that they don't really sell them much...a lot are free, or very cheap. They don't do it for the money. Everyone knows if you want to sells sigs you come here. That used to be a good thing. But anymore the gp is all that matters for some, and while I like the pixel trend for art's sake, it is a never ending source of noob questions and posts. The splitting into discussion and market boards certainly helped. But half of the discussoin is..."how do I put in just enough effort to sell some sigs", or "how much could I get for this?". The success of this board in the sig area has really killed it for much else. Second tip has reached the point now where it actually has too many people in media for my tastes at least. We have so many that it is not as much of a family environment now. I prefer to go to rsc at times because I can at least know some of the people after a while. Fire Freak and Tenshi like to do some painting over there, as well as Trunks. Keiphus can get to those boards easier since they pretty much ip banned his isp here. Wyrmy is there, etc. So it is more like the old Tip boards for me, and they have a more laid back way of handling things. But as I said, the issue on ripping is that it is bad, no matter how bad the artwork, no matter what the board, it is simply illegal and wrong. However, there are cases where people (even runescape) allow use of certain images. If that is the case, hey I have no problem with it. However, most stipulate that you gain no PERSONAL GAIN. That includes money on RS. In fact, though it is illegal, rs money HAS real life value. Misterxman and Jeppoz could have a part time job from selling their earnings on E-bay! (In fact some MMORPG companies are now controlling the action themselves by making areas for player to player marketing of in game items for real world money. Hint Hint guys...go sell there! ) If people did get their image from a game developers pack of legal use promotional images, then simply link to the page under the sig. I think that is more than fair. When I have used stock images I have tried to make note of their legal use. If such a note is not there then moderators dealing with it seems like a good idea to me. Otherwise they sanction illegal activity.

This has been argued for years, and the general solution lately seems to have been to shame them and spam up their post until they abandon it. But that just makes the people doing it look bad, and does not always dissuade, so I would love to see the mods finally put this to rest. I have seen limited cases of them doing so, but I would love to see more. The issue is not only making money off of it, but doing something that is ILLEGAL in the first place Some of course will say you are just trying to maka a bigger market for your own work.

Lazy Summer Day's Nap-----------fixed rails
New version with rails reworked. I changed the coloring no the rails to match the floor, added a bit of a richer tone to give a late-day sunny look, modified a wierd spot on the dogs nose, roughed up the rails a bit, etc.

Looking For A Pixel Artist To Take Me Under Their Wing
I have never done a pixel in my life, but if you think it would help I could sit in judgment over yours and tell ya what to do :)
-
increase the max image size
Just take the size as a challenge and step up to it. As with nearly any medium it is difficult to put a lot of information in a small space and still make it attractive. That is half the fun!

Lazy Summer Day's Nap-----------fixed rails
That is the problem with using reference. I diverged from the reference on the bushes etc., but I used them for the rails. IN the picture the rails were new and the porch wasn't. I should perhaps change the tone...hm..should be possible ;)

Lazy Summer Day's Nap-----------fixed rails
Thanks for the comments folks. I use a wacom intuos1 4x5 tablet. Yes I go to concept art Wyrm: Yeah Keiphus thought they were too crisp and symmetrical too. I may have to rough them up a bit to make it fit the feel.

Lazy Summer Day's Nap-----------fixed rails
This was three days work...not really all that long...maybe 6 hours...too long for this kind of work I suppose. Painter 7 This was originally for a contest on another board, but got it done late. New version with rails reworked. I changed the coloring no the rails to match the floor, added a bit of a richer tone to give a late-day sunny look, modified a wierd spot on the dogs nose, roughed up the rails a bit, etc.

gfx artist look here
They were all rated quite well in a recent pc magazine. I suggest going to http://www.pcmag.com and doing a search. You will find more information on each program. The page layout program is competing with Quark for dominance in that market. Illustrator and PS are the leaders in their niche. Overall, you are getting a lot of good programs. But a great program is not helpful if you don't use it. So make sure before laying out the 900 bucks.

Some attempts at photoshop
I have some advice too. Stop downloading software illegally. I think it is a safe bet that no one spends $700 bucks on a program that they don't intend to use, or only use once in a great while to shade something made in paint. This whole topic is a trend that is pathetic. There free, decent programs you can use.

HEY EVERYONE! Couple Questions - Graphic Battles?
I assume you mean Bob Ross? The guy with the big hippy hair? The one who says things such as "a little tree lives back here....etc." ? In any case welcome back.

'Nother one of those pixel thingies
ah yes...the avatars etc....very fine then, keep the gerbil.

'Nother one of those pixel thingies
First off, fantastic work. Some didn't care for the faces or the book ,but I think they look fine. But I would have to agree on the dolphin statue. Not that it doesn't belong, I think it absolutely does. But it looks way too flat. It may be a statue but it has volume. It needs some highlights to give it mass. Some bright highlights along the side and perhaps on the fin where the round slick curves are would be great. Additionally I would make the dolphin the same color as the statue. Some statues are painted, but ...it looks a little odd. Kind of like one of those garden gnomes or something. And is that a mouse on there? The tire swing...hm...the rope looks fine. I actually think if you made the tire portion a bit larger perhaps it could work. What size do you work at initially? Regular or larger? Nice job on this one.

ASCII /ANSI The next big trend?
I was not suggesting this was the newest thing known to man. I am simply suggesting we stop regurgitating the same space scene, render, landscape, pixel cycles, etc. But I forgot that I need to spell out every part of a post so that the professional jerks don't chew it apart.

ASCII /ANSI The next big trend?
Well we can always have a discussion on media board trends. What will be next. etc. But I particlarly wanted to ask if anyone is into ASCII or ANSI art. I have seen some fairly interesting ones before but I saw one today that was fantastic! http://www.deviantart.com/view/18257255/ Perhaps we should all try it out. You don't need much to do it!
