First work in awhile. Be kind, I'm tender.
Yes they have. . This ...hm...is not bad, but it just doesn't grab the eye. And even the early abstract artists were usually hoping to convey something. In my opinion many of them were showing base compositional principles through an illustration without recognizable content. This on the other hand looks kind of like a tree. ....kind of not....and doesn't really leap out at a person. I don't mind the green on green though. Actually if you went on to make it a tree I might enjoy it more. I actually like the green on green, has a nice lighting effect. Welcome back by the way. Hope you stick around a bit. Incidentally you missed the Media Board Revolution.....might want to read up :) http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=185 ... on&start=0

New signature.
Hebrewes 9:27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Taking a Rest
Quick painting of a drawing I did a bit ago. I had tried this one in watercolor and it didn't come out. So I am glad I got another chance at it. Photopaint http://www.deviantart.com/view/16190377/

Media help needed!!
Yeah, good post. By their nature artistic works are copyrighted...which is why we keep telling people even if you don't see a symbol, you still can't rip it. website templates do sell here, but not often. Your best bet is to market to clans.

Otter :) Come on, they are cute...click the button!
Angry? I think it is just the facial whiskers that give that effect. Then again...not really sure what an angry otter looks like. But I would think if he was angry he would be showing his teeth.

Latest Pixel Work
Great work on this one. I like that your sigs are detailed without being busy. You can take in the scene without getting distracted. That armor looks fantastic. the green shirt on the smither looks a bit flat. Otherwise, very nice.

Otter :) Come on, they are cute...click the button!
Had an old otter picture around, figured I would finish it. More experimenting with hard brushes on the clouds, and a bit of the fur. http://www.deviantart.com/view/16106035/

Brammy7~Terragen~Dusken Lake+Sig
the water needs quite a bit of work. Most folks would spot that as terrageny water right off. Simply upping the contrast would help a ton with the overall scene. Not bad for this stage of learning. Try to work a bit more on the after render touch-ups. .

Anyone familiar with the program Corel Draw?
I have version 9. Once you have made your image export it as a .gif. It will ask you for a transparent color. Good luck!

Looking up! Painter experiment with hard brushes-portrait!@@
Oh man, whatever caused it, that just is not good. I changed the jaw line and a few other things..hopefully got it fixed :)

me starting a sig.... c and c plz....
Other than the green frosting...it is great. Now make him a little donut hole sidekick. And perhaps a pastry gf?

NEW SIG FROM MISTERXMAN
It is a bit busy, but I like the concept. Pretty straight forward overall. The nasty colors of the dueling arena are not the best, but you had little choice on that. Um and I think that Duke Freedom might be the richest. Not certain though.

For a donut...it looks pretty good! but yes, frosting would help clarify what it is :)

Looking up! Painter experiment with hard brushes-portrait!@@
This one is developed as it is getting. But thanks. I am trying to focus on working more quickly. Stumbled across a great speed paint thread on concept art, kind of inspired me to try this style. This thing still took....over 5 hours...no way it should take that long. But I am just learning the harder brushes. The next one won't take as long. They do some masterful stuff in under an hour there.

Looking up! Painter experiment with hard brushes-portrait!@@
Naw, not the only one. but it is a different style. Hard brushes are better for colors. But I think some of the nuances can be captured with softer brushes..it is a lot easier to blend that way. Mind adding some comments to your spam?

Looking up! Painter experiment with hard brushes-portrait!@@
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/15996893/ I usually use softer brushes on my work. I wanted to experiment with the harder brush, more paint looking feel. It was great fun! It took a while to get the hang of it, but the colors, etc. seem to pop out better.

Yar. New sig by meh.
Says the guy with a twinkee with a cowboy hat in his sig  lol, just messing with you man. Lol, got a good laugh out of both of those. As to the CC discussion, CC is always a risk by the one doing it. Yes you are trying to be helpful but some never really want help. And others think you are doing it to be the guru on the topic. As much as it would be nice to always see advice taken the truth is that you put it out there knowing it might not. So if they don't...just hope the next one does. I agreed with most of your comments Jeppoz, but I know I have gotten comments before that I ignored, or didn't comment on until later when I posted a new version incorporating the suggestions. Finally, sometimes it takes a while for the truth of a comment to sink in. So it is not necessary for them to comment on it right away. It is nice when they do, but it is better yet when they think it over and incorporate the ideas.

Tutorial: 3 uses for layer modes! Add your own!
Yeah I use the multiply line art trick too when coloring. It gives you great control allowing you to see the lines and see the paint better. That first trick of yours would benefit from some pictures there Keiphus. Your description got a bit convoluted. And I find that the levels are good for contrast on some images, but I like overlay mode because I can still control not only the whole image, but also patches....you can erase the part of the overlay layer you don't want to have the contrast. And you can use the slider. Perhaps Corel has a stronger effect on theirs than ps...not sure. Also the contrast brushes are nice.

Tutorial: Easier Masking with color channels
If you have ever tried to use the magic wand tool on shag carpet, or a busy background, you know it can be difficult. There are various selection tools that can help, but sometimes the key is to reduce the complexity. Upping the contrast can help at times. But it doesn't always do the trick. Another option is to pull up the color channels. Images in RGB mode for instance have three channels that make up the total image....red, green and blue. If you work in one color channel at a time the image often gets simpler. Let's take this image as an example. The various sky tones can make it difficult to get a clean mask on this image. However, when we select different color channels we see that most of the different shades dissapear. I generally make a copy of the original image in the new layer so you don't mess it up. Then call up color channels and select them one at a time to see which one gives the best view of the image. In this case it is the blue channel. You can up the contrast too and get a really nice mask. Then just keep the mask, delete the first layer, and keep the duplicate, complete with mask!

Tutorial: 3 uses for layer modes! Add your own!
Note: to use these tips you need a program that uses layer merge modes, such as Photoshop, Corel Photopaint (that is what I used) or Painter, etc. 1. If you want to up your contrast on an image without washing it out a good way to do this is layer modes. Notice this example is kind of washed out: You could crank the contrast...but then you can ruin the picture. Another way to do it is to COPY the whole image, then PASTE it into a new layer Number 1 shows the duplicated layer. Then you switch the layer mode of the TOP layer to OVERLAY or SCREEN. This then ups the contrast. (overlay mode is shown in number 2) Then you can adjust the amount of the effect by adjusting the transparency of the layer (number 3). 2. Cleaning up line work. It is often hard to clean up line work due to smudges that scan in etc. Usually upping the contrast helps. But when your lines are too light, you can lose them completely by doing that. Again. layer modes are great! Simply duplicate the layer as in the case above, but select ADD or MULTIPLY. It brings out the lines, without increasing the smudges much. 3. Colorizing. If you want to add color to an image but don't want to mess with painting it all on, use the COLOR or HUE layer modes. when the wifey did this crocodile picture she didn't want to mess with coloring the whole thing. And a chromatic effect woudl work fine. So I simply made a new EMPTY layer, put a mask around the crocodile with the magic wand tool, then filled it with a solid shade of green. Set the merge mode to Color. It simply applies the color to the image without covering it over. Here is the result:

Pixel Tips
sure you can. Some of the best pixelers use only paint. But the last tutorial, brush shading, is not really something you do with paint. If you want something with a little more power, try one of these freebies: The GIMP is an open-source port from Linux. It is fairly stable, has a fair array of features. Photoshop it is not. But it is probably the best free option out there. http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html You will need to download two files. First you need the Gtk environment. This is a file that enables the other to run. Then you need the Gimp itself. Or, this free program that emulates traditional art mediums: It is called "project dog waffle"...and no I am not joking. http://www.squirreldome.com/cyberop.htm Another popular one is called open canvas. Version one is free. http://www.hamiltondraws.com/?link=44 Pixia is also free. It is an all around graphics program...just search for pixa. But I would say gimp is better. Satori Photo xl is a rather helpful freeware program that allows for layers, a fair array of selection tools, Photoshop Plug-in support, and some of your most popular file formats, with the glaring exception of GIF's. This may have to do with some licensing issues. You can download it at http://www.tucows.com in shareware version. Then you get the cd key on the satori site to convert it to freeware. I am not sure why they bother with this cumbersome process (probably to sign you up on their email list). It also works in a propriety file format that blends elements of vectors and rasters.....interesting! Serif makes some free graphics programs, including a decent free vector package One free tool that you might consider is by Jans freeware and is called Movies 12. http://www.jansfreeware.com/jfgraphics.htm This program allows you to make animations from jpegs, gifs or avi movies. It also adds some special transitions. Graphics Gale is one used by a lot of pixelers. It has layer support etc. http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/ Good luck.
