Cute Little Mouse meets large shoe
Decided to focus on animals for a bit. Here is a little mouse, no reference used. Not sure who to root for in this picture. Seems the mouse is resigned to his fate.

A. Good start you have here. I hope you keep working on it, regardless of what people's reactions are. It is a fun pursuit for those who stick it out. B. Rendering is actually a term that is a applied to the PROCESS of constructing the form/scene, etc. It particularly is used to reference the process of shading, etc. that lends the illusion of depth....rendering shadows, etc. It can apply to drawing and often does. Around here a render has taken on the connotation of a 3d render because that is the well recognized term to describe when the program actually renders the scene that you constructed in 3d. But it is not improper to use the term in relation to other art forms.

Opaque brushes, pretty quick paint...going for a looser style.- deviantART Accounts

Hope you enjoy your time away :) Just don't let a romantic interest so consume you that you cannot funtion in other areas of your life. It is a great feeling to be in love....well sometimes... But in the end love is more than romance, and life is more than warm feelings. So maintain a balanced life, and show the person you love them by the things you do for them. Don't give up all of your hobbies, if they are actually good for you, just include her in them. Maybe you should take up painting and paint the new gf :) i am sure she wouldn't mind even if it didn't come out perfectly. And if you stop by occassionally all the better. And it is true that the computer can be a waste of time, so if you are wasting too much...nothing wrong with a break. Besides, scientists say the infatuation stage lasts from 6 months to two years, so I imagine we will see you back sooner or later :)- Eeeep!! (Comic-Related)
contrary to common post-modern notions, I don't think the meta-narative is quite dead yet....heros still work. But I like the idea of doing a piece on an ogre. A moody introspective work, similar to the original frankenstein (by the way, in the book frankenstein went on a huge, 50 some page or so monologue, recounting a third hand event....he could do a lot more than grunt. He was fully aware of his revulting self .) he could feel bad about looting, burning villages, the like.- Lady in a guy's shirt---------------------------------------
yeah the reference had strangely large eyes...but I just left em that way. As for the squiggly lines, trying to get away from the too smooth looking cg feel. Not sure if it is working . Thanks for the comments on the skin tone...trying to work on that too. I like it overall, but it is hard to get all the details and still have the blocky painting look.- Lady in a guy's shirt---------------------------------------
Several hours work. I was going for a more painterly feel painter 7.- Pillow Fight )))))))))))))))))((((((((((((((((((((((((()))))
We have a traveling easel, all the paints, canvas etc.....just no time. I think perhaps I could do it on my day off. Could spend hours painting then dream about doing more the rest of the week! They also have a new speedpaint/sketch thread over at somethingleet. Go post when you get it online.- Pillow Fight )))))))))))))))))((((((((((((((((((((((((()))))
I have a real struggle with the sketchier style of opaque painting that a lot of the speed painters do. I just can't seem to get into it. I think if I did some traditional paints it would help. Or maybe try some textured papers in painter or something. I keep wanting to do oils and acrylics but I don't have time during the day, and we don't have a great space indoors.- Pillow Fight )))))))))))))))))((((((((((((((((((((((((()))))
Keiphus asked to see an all opaque painting. Cell shading was probably not what he had in mind, but ah well. I figured as long as I am doing it, might as well have fun with it. An odd piece :) ....no reference- tablets
This thread seems to refer to a program that worked quite well on the pocket pc and allowed it to act as a touchpad or graphics tablet for your pc. However...everywhere that referenced it now seems to be saying it is unavailable....ie....microsoft probably bought it up and discontinued it so people will buy tablet pc's....just my cynical guess. http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/ ... 9ba7623d21- tablets
I don't do much vector of any kind any more. I pretty much always air brush or just draw it in pencil. And I never liked Corel's version of the pen tool. And as to your comment on another site keiphus, why would I draw with all opaque brushes? Seems like work to me. I might work in some traditional mediums, but that is a bout the only reason that I can think of to work with opaqcity at 100 percent.- tablets
I am not saying I don't all the time. Just when following a nuanced reference curve. The more ya look at the reference, the more your results resemble the reference. But as it turns out I tried Sub's idea of mapping to the one screen and it worked fantastic. So I can still use my reference on the one and paint without looking on the other in symmetry. Good idea sub :) Incidentally if you haven't already, do yourself a favor sub and get a SKETCHBOOK on Concept Art. you can get some good feedback, show off your work...even the anatomy ones...and it gives you motivation to draw everyday. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/- Lying in Wait----------now with progress shots.
Naw, the guy just happened to have fairly skinny lips.- tablets
Yeah I considered buying the out of print books on the web etc, but they were 120 bucks for the cheapest used one at Amazon. I think ebay had them cheaper, but since there are several web sites that host them, and the pdf you mentioned, figured I would go cheap. I just print sections at a time and stick them in a notebook. Several sites want the copyright holders to reprint...not sure why they don't. Seems they could make some money.- Lying in Wait----------now with progress shots.
Tonight's work, from reference laid down basic values. Worked in some detail...etc. Adjusted details like the mouth angle (wife told me to earlier but I thought it would work out...), adjusted levels, painted on junk on his face for camo, etc.- Rate Banner ~ for another site
I said before I liked it, and I do. I think if you were going to change something, move the world down a bit, and get rid of the guitar. Those middle elements, especially the guitar, distract. The ones on either side seem a little better, have better blending/overlapping etc. I think they are fine.- tablets
There are tons of books devoted to the subject. I am reading the classic (online no less) Andrew Loomis Work at the moment, "Figure Drawing for All Its Worth" It's focus is constructing the human figure without a model, and it comes from the 30's when illustration was at its height. No doubt you have heard of it. You ever post any of your work? I don't remember seeing it around here at any rate. I do some with models, some without. But observation is still the key to drawing without, so I am doing a lot of work from reference right now so that I can practice my concepts of anatomy. Incidentally, dual monitors can still be nice if you can stick all of your tool bars on one screen and just use the primary one for nothing but the image.- tablets
Yes you can actually. You can map it to work on a certain area...say one screen, and then use the mouse for the other. But then that messes with the workflow. I tend to put my work that I am doing on one monitor, then my reference on another...so that would work fine for that....in fact...I am glad you reminded me I could do that! But sometimes, especially when I use painter, I put the refrerence and some of my toolbars there. Painter has a lot of power but its interface is a mess. I think in version 8 and 9 they went to a slightly more ps-like one. But 7 and below (I use 7) has toolbars everywhere. And then it is a pain to have to switch to the mouse to access them.- Clan Banner
It is nice looking. What was the process?- tablets
Yeah, that is what I said. when your drawing blind. There are times when I stare at the reference and just move my hand. It works great with pencil, but not always quite as great with a tablet becuase of the slight distortion. And if you get your verticle twice the size of the horizontal it is not exactly slight.- New Pixel
Quite nice! And for 1 mil not even that bad of a price. It is less busy than some of the other high end pixel sigs, and captures an interesting scene.- Rate Banner ~ for another site
I actually think it looks alright. Sure it is some pictures slapped on, but they are cleanly done, with a nice monochromatic color theme. For what it is for it works. - Little Ducky
