  1. Yes they can be a most entertaining people can't they. ;) My favorite one from the poster though, was the Chaos Elemental's 13D movie. You've seen movies in 2D and 3D, now experience them in all 13 dimensions! Watch 5 alternative endings at the SAME TIME!! Hahaha brilliant! Quantum physics ftw.
  2. Are you saying you manually enter the ratio? Why not just have the computer calculate it?
  3. In one of the recent Q&A's one of the mods stated the fact that the new client will be able to run Runescape without using java. I wouldn't be surprised if this is it. Effectively, it allows you to "run" RuneScape without Java since it installs it for you.
  4. Remember that downloadable RS client that Jagex talked about? I think they just leaked it. When I loaded RuneScape today it came up with this message: Naturally, I decided to download it. For anyone else that wants to try it, the link is: http://www.runescape...Scape_Setup[Caution: Executable File] Note that this is NOT the same as the client on the downloads page. That one is 89.5KB. The one I just linked to is 20 MB. I'll update with more info after I install it. EDIT: Ah... apparently it's just the normal client, but with Java included. I thought they'd have done something more interesting. :(
  5. Has anyone noticed if any RuneScape worlds have crashed? I was logged in, went to go get a bowl of food, came back and was logged out. I tried to log back in and have been getting "Your account has not logged out from its last session. Try again in a few minutes." for about 20 minutes now... unusually long so I was wondering if anyone knew of any worlds that crashed? I think I was on 115. EDIT: I just logged in with my other account and joined Jard Y Dooku's clan chat. My account is still logged into the clan chat - anyone else having troubles with 115?
  6. I was JUST going to post this. Also, a reason why this may fit even more nicely... Jagex said it doesn't start with a B. But maybe it used to. Remember, Summoning was not that skill's original name when it started development...
  7. I don't know if you've noticed, but I permanently deleted my website and monster examine guide back in early January. However, recent discussions may reverse that. But only maybe. I still want to continue with having quit RuneScape. :) Perhaps if a lot of you really want the guide back I shall restore it. We'll see. There are OVER 9000 things to do on my task list, partially due to university/college. The rest is that I have too many projects of my own that need finished, which I am trying to work on now. Hopefully I can get at least two done this weekend.
  8. That only applies to HTTP requests. Encryption is enabled in the RuneScape Java applet itself so you are protected whether it's https or not.
  9. I am sure one of them will whip up a program that will just automatically times all the HP+Damage by ten. No program needed. Just an SQL query. Might need to change the column type too. Max hits will need to be done manually since Tip.It's database isn't very normalized and they store it in the notes field. Shouldn't take that long since most don't have max hits though. UPDATE Monsters SET HP = HP * 10; *begins crying uncontrollably* I feel bad for the guy who has to stat spy all monsters for max hits (since it won't be X 10 it can have any number from 1-4 behind it now *I think*) Hp will be easy to work out though just slap a 0 at the end! Everything's just x10 as far as I know... it would have been more work to make it more precise so why bother? If it IS more precise... well I will be mad. Years of my work wasted. :( I haven't died just yet. And I could always mark the old ones with an "old" icon, and the new ones with a "new" icon. Ever think of THAT?! :) Actually, I could do even more epic things than that................ but not now, maybe in a few months. He'll prolly MSPaint a "x10" to all pics :P MS Paint? Just a few lines of code, actually. Nice one! ;)
  10. SQL is classified as a query language. Interesting. Conversely, I find MSDN documentation (C#/.NET) far superior, providing more detail and examples than Sun's (or rather, Oracle's, now) for Java. I understood pointers, until one day I was passed a pointer to a pointer. Talk about a headache. In regards to that and the few memes following it: BNgosdbhgouisdhgiosdyh89ty89wyt 80y0 nyz08ghs80 gsd lSGLOSDLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111 I'm actually saving those pictures... and I NEVER save pictures. Now for my own additions to the topic. I actually prefer Eclipse to NetBeans. Only reason I use either of them anyways is because I have to write Java for university projects... As for my favorite language, C#. The most elegant and powerful there is, in my opinion. Regarding Java, I wish I could delete it from every computer in the world. There is no language I hate more, except probably Visual Basic. Its implementation of generics is complete junk, and doesn't even have properties yet. I don't care about backwards compatibility. I care about a language not being from the age of the dinosaurs.
  11. I wish Microsoft didn't be so difficult when it comes to standards. That is all I have to say for now, otherwise... yeah, that's all I have to say for now.
  12. I have too many projects to list. :( Not really working on one more than any others... at least not one I'd like to mention. But... yeah, I really can't think of one that stands out right now.
  13. Can you change my C# example so it's "class Example" rather than "class example"? By convention, class names in .NET use upper camel casing, so it will more accurately reflect the language's style.
  14. Icthlarin's Little Helper demigods - magic and melee Thrantax, Nazastarool and all the POH monsters use melee. The Tok-Xil also uses range. Tarn's ghost is melee. I forget about the first, I think they are both melee though.
  15. Even after quitting RuneScape, I can't seem to leave it entirely. Fortunately I am a pack rat (somewhat) and have kept most of my data, so I shall give you most of these values. They are placed inline next to the names, in bold. Enjoy. Don't worry, I take decimals into account on all of them. Remember... I'm the insane one with this stuff. The ice trolls are complicated. It will be easier for you if I just copy and paste all the info I have on them. There are actually 7 different ice trolls, not 6. I am absolutely certain of this, people (not me) have shown this to be true as per the RuneScape cache. Here is all the data I have on them. Each field is separated by a tab; I don't have the time to format them nicely but you should be able to read it fine. 16. Used for: Similar to C, it can be used for just about anything. Microsoft's primary programming language for its flagship development platform, .NET. Been around since: 2001 Pros: Simple syntax like C, huge support and libraries. Easy to learn (the basics at least). Portable by nature. (You can almost always compile it on any operating system that has a .NET or Mono compiler without changing any code) Cons: Not quite as fast as C, but probably faster than Java and GUI doesn't look that good on non-Windows OSs, even with GUI toolkits other than Windows Forms. Alternatives: C++, C, Java public class example { public static void Main() { SomeFunction(); } public static void SomeFunction() { for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { if (i % 2 == 0) { Console.WriteLine(i + " is even"); } else { Console.WriteLine(i + " is odd"); } } } } Go ahead and format it yourself... I can't stand this editor, it's total junk.

  18. I know, it seems a very logical way to implement it. It's interesting to see how different MMOs do things.
  19. I quit RuneScape a couple weeks ago. I didn't bother to post a goodbye or an announcement of any sort, my monster examine guide's links are all broken, my website has been taken down. I just don't really care enough to play it anymore or even enough to depart with telling anyone. But I suppose some of you will know now. The main reason I quit is because I don't feel like it and it annoys me in many ways. The other reason is to have more time to work on my own MMORPG. I'm also doing a 10-day trial of WoW and possibly the same for some other MMOs to see what the differences are (RuneScape is the only MMO I've played). So this first part might seem irrelevant but I was thinking of some interesting new ideas for this MMO I am working on, and I was wondering how you think this might work in RuneScape. A chemistry skill, which would allow you to make things like nitroglycerin, and use them as weapons, or to cut down trees. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=zV86hPBoIYc Quite a radical idea, but just imagine being able to toss vials of nitroglycerin at your enemies to blast them apart! For mining this could be especially useful. You could toss a vial into an area of rocks, and after it explodes, ores would appear on the ground which you could then pick up. For balancing, nitroglycerin would be expensive but very effective. I believe nitroglycerin is also very flammable... perhaps an addition to firemaking as well? Even woodcutting, although it would seem to destroy most of the wood. :P I also noticed several things playing WoW the past couple days that I thought were fairly interesting. For one, the way food and healing works. You restore health when not in combat, which makes sense... closer to the way healing works in real life. And eating food restores so much health over a period of time rather than instantly, which makes much sense. You can swim through any body of water (as far as I've encountered), too. Its user interface also has a lot more information, which I think is something RuneScape could greatly improve upon. This may seem contradictory, but I hate the monster examine spell. It shouldn't need to exist. Numerical hitpoints could easily be displayed over a monster's HP bar, and statistical data such as max hits, immunity to poison and slayer monster could simply be in an online bestiary on runescape.com. It makes little sense to have a spell that in some ways breaks the fourth wall. PS - I don't intend to become a full time WoW player. Just exploring it for a week. I think game design is very interesting, because we must realize a game is software also, and we must apply similar design principles as application software. How much time do we spend trying to calculate our max hits? How much time have we spent on the combat formula before finally finding it? Too much. Maybe it seems like I am rambling about 20 different things, but you must remember, I am a computer, and I never defrag my brain. So what do you guys think about nitroglycerin as a weapon or mining tool, and other radical ideas like that?
  20. You can't use that example with this situation, not only that, but many toy guns do look just like the real thing. And, as guns are illegal in most countries, what can you expect? Chances are no-one will be shot, however, they will of course be approached with caution. Tranquilizer would have been a much better way to handle it... --- Also, consider this: you're playing RuneScape and say "I am going to kill myself." (in a way where your actual intent couldn't be discerned from context) You proceed to drop 4 vials of nitroglycerin and then you lose Internet connection. The cops show up several hours later. I wonder if you'd be held responsible for anything. Or imagine you're fighting the NPC "Me" from the Lunar Diplomacy quest.
  21. The point is to discuss whether you think individual players may have, on occasion, directly influenced updates to RuneScape. For example, I suggested to (a Jagex mod whom I won't name for privacy) that navy costumes be allowed in the costume box. He told me it was a great idea and he'd tell the content team to get on it, and a month later, that was updated and we are now able to store all colours of navy costume in the box. I also asked him (multiple times) to make the music player show "Unlocked: X/Y" rather than "Unlocked: Y". A few months later, it was done. So I suppose that's evidence that Jagex HAS updated things based on the actions of individual players, but that's direct rather than indirect. So basically, discuss Jagex having updated things in the game based on the actions of individual players, (directly or indirectly) - tell your stories!
  22. I really don't think it's impossible that a Jagex employee didn't come up with an idea based off of my actions. Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist, but I think it's just funny to think that COULD have happened. You all seem to have taken the topic in the wrong light.
  23. Now, I'd like to discuss a little something I find odd. First of all, any of you that use my monster examine guide will know that my site is currently down, but I've still been working on the guide and it will return ASAP. One of the newer monsters, Living rock patriarchs, is the only one I haven't already scanned and have in my archive. Now there's something special about this monster. Unlike a NORMAL monster, it appears once every hour or so, in a random damn place which I don't know where the hell is. I'm willing to sit there for 16 hours getting the scan - I've done that once before (for Crondis), but I don't even know where to wait! Now my question is, do you think employees at Jagex are aware of my guide and find it funny to put things such as this in the game to annoy me or present a challenge to my guide's completion? I'm actually seriously wondering if this is true. I guess I'll sit in the northwest corner for a few hours in world 2... supposedly that's there they spawn.
  24. Huh. I thought I was the only one who called you "Cammykins"... XD

  25. In the Magic Guide, the maximum hits for Smoke and Shadow burst are listed as 19 and 20, respectively. However, Jagex changed the max hits for both spells to 17 in January 2008. The XP remains the same. Shadow barrage may be 48 (according to the KB), not 49 XP. I will test this later and report it to Jagex if it is incorrect. Carrallangar teleport appears to have changed to 82 (according to the KB), no longer 94 XP. No idea why they changed the Smoke and Shadow burst max hits, but the Carrallangar teleport changes make sense due to the wilderness changes, and the Shadow barrage change might be due to balancing with the Miasmic spells.
